Quick query: watching the game again last night I noticed Cluxton getting a yellow before the second half started. Didn't spot this at the time and must have missed it in the match reports. What was it for? Apparently it was for mouthing off to the umpires during the interval, presumably re the altercation between Donnachadh Walsh and James Mccarthy. Whatever about this, Dublin were awarded a free out at one stage and the ball had run towards the wing about 20m out from goal and Cluxton ran around to his post and brought a new ball onto the field of play and took a fast free with this new ball. Totally illegal and not spotted by any official..... Anyone else spot this? Jarlath Burns mentioned it in commentary alright but nothing else said about it.

By comparison, Kealy has Moran to aim for by and large and Morans majestic fielding won Kerry vital possession. But it would be a tall order to repeat that in an all ireland final

Stating the obvious but events meanwhile will overtake it -killer instinct in Autumn provoked by league matches, the only significance is that our youngsters beat yez at their first attempt in Croker and they will build on that foundation. Dublin could go into psychological freefall from having to prove themselves and coupled with the competition for places they talk about could have them sap their energy in training. All this ballsology re if Rock did this 'n' that, if Moran found the net, if the ref in '15 did his job, and also in 2011 ... history would be different! If nothing else, did you ever hear of the corinthian spirit. There is a brill study done on this in The Economist of all places, author never heard of GAA but he also failed to mention the pride of place that is The Ryder Cup. The conclusion was that money wounds sport -article seems to have disappeared from the web but as a GAA man you'd really appreciate what we have and provided we don't make a mess of it the future is bright. I'd be neither left nor right wing, but I abhor pay to view, a nail in the coffin and I don't believe the authorities have thought it through. Anyway good to see that most recent posters share my optimism, my enthusiasm for Kerry for Sam 2017, it is on and while it is a big ask, that's when we produce the goods. While my comments can be controversial, it is not for that reason I make a point -believe you me, this is a very special bunch of players here, what stands out is spirit that was missing say in '15 and '16. It won for us in '14 in Limerick and v Donegal and it is now back again to haunt. We were never too far away without that killer instinct, so there wasn't an awful lot to make up.

Watched the game back there, it was similar to last year's league final in the first half but a big change in the 2nd half, obviously. Both sides hit some great scores but also some really bad misses. McMahons miss when he almost had too much time/space with injury time started left his team with a real mountain.
Morans point to put Kerry 3 up was massive. Mannion(I think)s misplaced pass just after he got the goal that would surely have set up the equalising score was a big moment, as was another easy misplaced pass by him shortly after. McMahon also had a very poor pass in that period, signs of over-effort by one, and tiredness by the other I suspect.
Overall an epic game really, and very open/attacking. I saw little sign of reaction by either side to playing each other so often or to the media goading etc. I thought the ref had mostly a good game. Looking back at about 80% of games between the counties since 2001, they have been really great contests, which is some testament to the standards and rivalry.
However I would caution about alot of talk of 'the next meeting this year' as it's times like this when one or both counties may not make the final, such as 2010 when Tyrone, and Kerry were both taken out by big underdogs in the Qtr Finals.

Agreed, If Mayo and Kerry keep winning that semi final would be a major collision again, similar to 2014 in Limerick. Hard to see Dublin not coming through on the other side however.

What was your impression of our new lads Rashers- it would be good to get a bit of independent insight. I was surprised he didnt throw McHugh in for a bit- I've always thought he had something about him but some of my work colleagues (Dublin lads) assure me that he flatters to deceive.

One of the few midfielders who goes out to catch the ball if possible. Fair play to him, also for coming back from some horrific injury problems.

I sort of agree with you re Dublin. Donegal and or Tyrone and Monaghan will be no walk in the park though. The difficulty with the other side of the draw is that whoever gets through between Kerry and Mayo will be absolutely primed for the final. This influenced events in both 2014 and 2015....

I'm sure its an area other teams will target to try and ensure they limit the amount of clean catches the likes of Moran can make in a game. Imagine if it had been around for the likes of Darragh Ó Sé and Ciarán Whelan!

I had a reply typed up on the phone last night and thought I'd clicked "Post" - Anyway, I watched the second half last night, and I thought Kerry dominated the first 25 mins. A couple of major swing events happened then. Griffin received the ball on the right half forward position and spilled it, Dublin went up the field and Rock scored nice point. Morley worked the goal chance that Cluxton saved out to McCarthy, who unfortunately seems to have no left foot, he hesitated between picking and kicking and Philly slid in and saved the situation. Moran missed the 45. Not long after Marauder McAuley broke through to feed Mannion who actually topped his shot, through Kealy's legs. Now from 5 points up it is a point game. Up until the goal Kerry had kicked 7 points to 2 against. The last 10 mins then was 50/50, up and down the field. I actually couldn't believe but Kerry were 3 points up 19 to 1-13 in the 71st minute - but unfortunately Brendan's kickouts started misfiring, he nearly caused a penalty, kicked a wild ball to nowhere in our left half back line. Mannion scored a beauty straight after Sheehan looked to have got the insurance score. Then we got lucky with Rock's free after the second most blatant ever black card from Maher. Unreal finish. The reflection above is that imo Kerry were 4-5 points better in the second half from play (not scoreboard in the end obviously). Green and gold glasses or whatever, I'd be interested if folks think that from 35 mins to 60 mins was different from what I described above. I can't understand how Brogan in particular, and Flynn were left on til well past 60 mins. Both weren't in the game.

As regards the near meltdown in the last three minutes an optimist would say that now that we got away with it we can plan for a similar scenario. We have got to come up with a way of taking a safe kick-out in those last minutes of a tight match when we are ahead. I wonder if Brogan and Flynn were left out to dry a bit so that when they are dropped for the championship there will be little outcry.

Nothing happened in this case... Balance? Tit for tat absolutely. But whats more wearysome is the one eyed stuff you peddle. The implication is that Cluxton manages only by dint of illegality. The yellow card is not worth a fcuk to anyone, because the opposition have succeeded in their intention, slowing down the quick kick out. But I suppose its a back handed compliment to him that some opposition have been reduced to this.

Thought service into Brogan was shocking, he's decent in the air but the thing was being launched in 6 foot over his head. He needs it in low, gets a half a yard and sticks it over. If we are going the target man route O'Gara will do it. Or give O'Callaghan his head in Leinster champo. Flynn to me is in decline, hurts even saying that. Good point early on, then nothing.

You have to realise that we are biased on here: it is, after all, the Kerry GAA forum. There was no such implication. We are under no illusion: Cluxton is the top kicker-out of the ball out there.

Unless playing into a gale, Bryan Sheehan can kick it 65 yards. Thats 80 yards from the Kerry goal line. Ball landing between the opposing 45 and the D.... a long way back for the opponents. It would take nearly a minute for Bryan to amble back to take the kick what with tying his laces and all. The end was so similar to the end of the 2013 final but a bit of sloppiness by Dublin lost them the momentum plus the human tank called McMenamin wasnt running directly at Kerry. Had it gone on a few more minutes I think Dublin would have won it

This clip showing how Kevin McCarthy loses his man to get possession and also the clinical point marks him as a serious prospect I have been seriously taken by his ability to win his own ball and pick a pass since I first saw him play against Roscommon. At the moment, cannot see how he won't stay come championship.
