"The play is very pedantic" I think the word you were looking for was "pedestrian" Tommy. Also he said Aidan O Shea had got worse belts at 3am outside a Castlebar Disco. only slightly slanderous. That one made it to the subconscious alright. Would love Marty to instead of forced chortling, just bolt from the blue, Walter from Big Lebowski, "Shut the fcuk up, Tommy".You're out of your depth" But then that daydreaming ends with the announcement that up next, "The Marty Squad" as you drive back from wherevertf.

As a commentator Tommy Carr is about as much use as chocolate fireguard . On the game I was very unimpressed with Mayo. Tipp cut through them very easily and inexperience cost Tipp in the end . Time and time Tipp conceded a score when they had the possession through mistimed hand passes. Mayo scored 1-7 before half time and that won the game. But I really couldn't see Dublin or Kerry allow Tipp that space to run with the ball. But they are in a final and that is all that they will care about tonight.

Tommys reason why the Tipp black card shouldn't have been given was that they hadn't been there for 80 years and there was only 8 minutes gone. I don't remember that being ratified by Congress as a reason.
I personally like Marty Morrissey as a commentator and all round nice guy but The Marty Squad is unbearable....Brenda Donoghue...God Almighty

Mayo in the final and in a very different place than other years. Then, if not favourites they were given a 40 to 50% chance. This time regardless of next week's result they are very much the underdogs. If this mood is generally in the county and the players are not sunk by the weight of expectation they could just pull it off. Motivation? All they need to look at is Brolly's closing scatological comments.

Whoever wins between kerry and Dublin will fancy their chances in the final. Aidan O'Shea totally anonymous again today. Their backs look very poor. Tipp opened them up handy enough at times. Inexperience cost Tipp more than anything else. Thought coldrick had a poor game agsin. I don't know what game you were watching. I was at the match and aido played great stuff and done a power of work of the ball and plenty of turnovers. Mayo turned on the tap for 10 minutes before half time and wrapped the game up. Roll on September. Maigh Eo Abu

The black carding of centre back Robbie Kiely of Tipperary (unfairly in my view) was a big blow and had a huge bearing on the game. In general, I thought the referee was very harsh on Tipperary. Lee Keegan did well to avoid the black card today - this 'hard man' continues to ride his luck and smirk at the opposition. One of these days Keegan is going to get his comeuppance and I hope it comes on the receiving end of a real hosing from a Kerryman. I seem to remember Enright down in Limerick being on a yellow and cynically pulling down cillian o connor down in the box for a penalty and no card being given. So people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Ye would take keegan if ye could. Hon Mayo.

Tipp need to get to at least Div 2 of the League if they're to develop further. They were too ponderous on the ball yesterday and ran blindly into traffic.
Mayo weren't impressive and I think their full-back line is fairly weak. I thought that Coldrick was poor, especially when not playing obvious advantage for both sides.

Mayo have one day (well potentially two if it's draw) left to shine and if they win, not one person will care if it's by 5 points to 4 with a Foxford Blanket Defence.

It's really incredible that, not only did Carr ever get a gig as commentator, but he seems to be appearing at more and more games. Spreading like a virus, so he is. You'd have to wonder who is responsible for this? Who decided that someone so persistently clueless, so prejudiced and with the most boring voice imaginable was, out of the whole country, the one most qualified to entertain the armchair fan. The mind boggles. Could they not have sent him to Rio to do the fencing or some such? I have sent an email to RTÉ and I am going to start tweeting Ryle Nugent on a daily basis. Of course this will make no difference but I am going mad. I want to watch on RTÉ but this gob*e means I have to watch Sky. www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/football/county-players-blast-tommy-carrs-commentary-417076.html?utm_source=iosapp&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=sharebutton

Who was the last team to reach the All-Ireland Football Final without beating a Division 1 team? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

From my lofty seat in the Hogan Stand yesterday it was difficult to truly analyse the big calls made by the referee but the feeling amongst the crowd around me was they went against Tipp. The black card was one such moment and it looked extremely harsh. If the tackle happened out the field I doubt there would even have been a name ticked. Regardless, Kiely was a massive blow to Tipp. Peter Acheson, seemingly playing with a broken hand, was moved to centre back negating any influence he was going to have on the game from midfield where he has been immense.
The so called weaker teams don't tend to get the big decisions. Tipp needed every big call and every stroke of luck yesterday to pull off the shock to end all shocks. It transpired that these key ingredients went Mayo's way.
I said it in a previous post that the progression of both Tipp and Mayo in the championship were quite different in that the Munster men seemed to be making the most headway whilst Mayo were stop start. This was what I saw unfold yesterday as well. Tipp were clearly in the ascendancy in the first half when a crucial hand pass error saw a green flag raised for Mayo in clinical style. This was the turning point in a first half where Mayo were at times woeful. For the first time in the game Mayo's gander was up and they dominated that period. Andy Moran was outstanding for Mayo in that first half. Everything he touched turned to gold.
At half time you got the sense that Mayo would put the game to bed early. Not to be. Fair play to Tipp for staying in the game. Their intensity and level of commitment to the cause outshone that of Mayo big time. Once more when they were hugely in the ascendancy they conceded the most fortuitous of goals. It was the sucker punch and to be honest the gig was up for Tipp before that ridiculous sending off of Bill Maher.
The reaction of the Mayo crowd was one of relief after. They celebrated a bit too jovially to be honest in my opinion . Andy Moran looked like a very happy camper in his post match interview saluting the crowd and fist pumping. I think had Kerry or Dublin played as bad we would have been disgusted with the performance. That said semi finals are all about winning.
I thought Mayo lacked leadership yesterday. I agree with comments made about Cillian O Connor. He's lacking form in a big way and it's a huge concern for Mayo. Alan Campbell took up the mantle of marking Andy Moran in the second half and that was that for Moran. It was time for some others to step up to the plate and in truth this never happened for Mayo. Aidan O Shea stamped his authority on this game and for me was their saving grace. When they needed calm or drive he dictated the play. He's an absolute horse when he gets in the ball and despite their best efforts Tipp couldn't do anything to stop him. His work rate off the ball more than caught the eye.
To me Mayo look like they have taken a step backwards. Some of their shooting and decision making was like a throwback to Mayo teams of the past. Make no mistake they have giant strides to take if they're to be victorious on final day. They haven't turned it on all year and I saw no evidence yesterday to suggest they can turn it on against Dublin or Kerry.
Interestingly, I had the Marty show on the radio on route home. All the talk is Dublin. Next week's result is a 'done deal'. Jacko even said that Diarmuid Connolly will have learned on how to better Keegan. We couldn't be in a better position. Bring it on.

I cant really understand the line being thrashed out that Mayo wont care how they played in the semi final, the main thing is that they are in the final etc etc
I thought for large chunks of the game that they were very, very bad. The full back line is there for the taking by either ourselves or Dublin. They concede too many frees and seem to lack discipline in the tackle which I am surprised with given Donie is up there. They are relying on Andy Moran to get scores from play. Aidan O Shea needs to score more himself, develop that ruthless streak that all top forwards have. Cillian O Connor is gone backwards this year and the likes of Jason Doherty and the young lad who came on (fella who broke his collar bone in Killarney last year) will not trouble top backs. I think they are a bit inexperienced on the line also.
Mayo will have to improve immeasurably from anything we have seen from them this year in the final to win. I have seen no proof that they can.

I agree that Mayo seem to have gone backwards this year, and the form of some of their key players, especially Cillian O Connor, will be a major cause for concern for them, they are however in an all Ireland final, and both Dublin and Kerry would gladly trade places with them today. I would hope that if Dublin reach the final we could beat them, and I'm sure Kerry would be big favourites for the final should they win next Sunday, but perhaps the lack of hype and expectation in Mayo will for once allow them to focus on the task ahead and nothing else. At the end of the day the final will be a two horse race between two Division 1 teams and given that anything can happen.

I'm surprised to see you floating around here still after that nonsense last year. Did you ever send on the names of the referee instructors that were showing the Kerry v Mayo Replay video as how not to referee games? Be objective for once. Mayo were poor yesterday and no other way of calling it. They look like a team that don't know what they want to do. When they forget themselves and play their running game they are best. It's like Rochford is trying to impose a style that doesnt suit them. The Tipp full forward line we able to win ball in front time and again. I thought ye were meant to play with a sweeper? Keith Higgins is still doing the business. Don't think he is as sound as defensively as he once was though but, still a handful.

i was wondering that too. Kerry in 1997? or were cavan division 1 then? No Cavan were a Div 1 side then. Dublin 2011. Tyrone & Donegal & Kildare were all in Div 2. Of course it could be argued at least 2 of those 3 were btter than a couple of the Div 1 teams. Tyrone this year possibly comparable with Donegal 2011, in terms of what Mayo have had to beat. Dublin's only real form in 2011 that indicated they might win Sam was the league final & the performance Vs Tyrone in the Qtr Final. But Mayo's opponents in the final this year may not play as well as Kerry did for most of the 2011 final. Mayo's progress to this final reminds me most of all of Dublin in 1992. The difference there though is Mayo are more experienced and have been in finals, and will be very much underdogs in the final, Dublin were huge favourites in 92 and very much underestimated Donegal. So from the mental point of view there are a fair few strong indicators in Mayo's favour, for them to produce a top performance and also to dog it out in a tight game. Mayo's game Vs Tyrone this year was not unlike Dublin's Vs Donegal in 2011. Mayo are also very likely to get a sympathetic ref (again) in the final.

Champions don't allow the ref to play any role in the result...even if that isn't actually true that is how champions must think. Excuses are septic and debar improvements...and Mayo have been fair septic over the last number of years.

Whatever about COC, they will not win the final without diarmuid playing well. He seems to be a key player. Better even than Alan Dillon in his heyday. One other thing that struck me is how hard it is for referees. Guys are going down very easy in the tackle and the natural instinct is for the referee to give the free.

Obviously in 2011 Dublin got the rub (certainly not the referee though! ) Anyway if it's not a very tight final there will be no doubts, whatever way it pans out and whichever team wins from the 3 left. The only major underdog beating a strong favourite situation I can recall apart from Donegal 92 & Armagh 2002 was Offaly in 82. Tyrone 2003 to some extent too I suppose. Now I come to think of it years starting with 2 or 3 each decade seem to be good for underdogs! Donegal in 2012 weren't underdogs though by the time the final came around. Dublin in 2013 were mildly underdogs overall, more so in 2011 I suppose.
