I suppose in a way, not saying in this instance, but it is possible for a linesman or ref or who ever to say they got verbally abused. Do they need witnesses or is their word good enough? Just wondering in the interest of fairness. Club games for example where there wouldn't be a video of what happens. With regards to the match taking all day if it stopped to explain, wouldn't a player perfer to know what they had done wrong? Or is it easier to give away stupid frees all day?

How Cork football folk tolerate this nonsence is beyond me...all I can say as a Kerryman is that I hope he gets another two year term and failing that, bring back Larry!

Mickmack and Joxer, no Cork person is defending Billy. If ye can convince me that the GAA are even handed with regards to suspensions I'll let it go.

can you convince us abue that billy is calm cool and collected on the sideline,he doesnt lose the rag,his judgement isnt clouded by his dislike of the kerry jersey and he doesnt over celebrate defeats of kerry in an over the top inflamatory way and that kavanagh mighten have been his mouth piece after the all-ireland final, ala roy keane allex ferguson, in another rant about cynical, negitive, cheating kerry and injury faking kerry players and they i'll let it go also.

what did billy say to the lines man abue? There was something about this in the Times last week. I think the linesman was the guy who reffed the Munster final and Billy had some quip about him not seeing jerseys being pulled in the Munster final?

Well owenabue a Sligo player just got a 48 week ban for something similar so maybe the GAA are finally getting tough on the discipline issue

Owenabue, I'm not arguing the length of suspension. I don't know what he said but I'm guessing it was serious enough abuse to warrant such a penalty. Realistically, 19 weeks of it will have elapsed before the league kicks in and I'm sure with an appeal is made it'll be reduced by at least 6 weeks. My point on how Cork supporters tolerate this relates really to what frame of mind Billy must have been in when he went to the dressing room at half time? Maybe he can switch the rage off and on...I know I couldn't and I have very little time for people who vent their annoyance/anger when others are depending on them to be rational and collected,,,of course we all get wrapped up in games but there was a lot more at stake than venting ones anger at a linesman was ever going to yield. Its only a personal opinion but I can't see how that benefitted the team but maybe I'm too detached from the situation. I know if it had been the Kerry manager involved and the result of the was similar to Corks position, I'd be less than sanguin !

We'll never know what was said. Joxer, a lot of Cork supporters don't tolerate it either. (poll on rebelgaa at the moment with most people wanting a change in management for next year for example) With Billy being one of our own, and because of all he has done for Cork football, I suppose we might think that it is a bit harsh. I don't think any of us would defend verbal abuse. The reason I personally question it is because of so many other people getting away with things which on paper seem far worse, or even when you watch the video in the case of some of them.

It seems as though the Cork county board have begun proceedings into finding a new manager. Article in the Hogan Stand says a special congress was called. Interesting that this comes about just when Larry T called for Billys head. I wonder is Larry T in line again to take the helm? If so, are Cork just running in circles?

Hello there,
I am not really into kicking a man while he is down even if it is Billy Morgan and this is coming from a Kerryman, in case the cynics out there view me as a wolf in sheep's clothing.
In a wider sense Billy is a true Gael and has devoted his lifetime for the betterment of Cork Football and as much as we might not like to admit it, if Kerry are to progress beyond Munster we need a strong Cork team. On his apparent dislike of Kerry football, well that really is a no brainer as if you were getting beaten from '75 onwards until '86 (bar '83) that might just leave a slight mark. Billy had a go at Martin Duffy (referee who took charge of this year's Munster Final) about his eyesight, so what. A 24 week ban is really over the top on this occassion.
I think this will galvanise him and you will see him in charge again next year.

What a joke of a disciplinary system we have in the GAA. 24 weeks was a bit OTT anyway, even for a fella like Morgan. But how can this nonsense be allowed to continue.
If he got away on a technicality surely the ban should have been lifted altogether.
Yeah Frank Murphy SC strikes again

And so the man who helped draft the new rules helps get Billy off on a technicality! Only in the GAA and that's a sad thing to say

No idea really Stacks. Not sure their are many notable football managers in Cork. No matter what corner of the county you get a fella from, so one will have issues with it. Who would actually like to follow in the footsteps of Billy? By all accounts he got on well with the players and many if not all of them wanted him to stay on.

with billy gone and one less kerry cork game as cork are in div2, it might take some of the heat out of the ties between the two counties.I wont miss the cynical jibes from billy.
