Brazil will play ireland in a soccer friendly in croker on feb 6th 2008.
when did the line between competitive only and no friendly international games in croker become blurred.
72000 tickets at 70 euro a head,5 million, thats exactly the figure that lying in wait for a number of years to be shared by the gaa players.
strange timing of this annouchment as today at lunch time the gpa release the results of their strike ballot papers.
in a seperate developement mickie harte has claimed that tyrone will defy strike action if it goes ahead and that tyrone will field a team containing many of the present tyrone star players.Mickie feels strike action is ill advised.
its mentioned elsewhere in todays papers that if the gaa negociate pay per view tv of their games it could have a major impact on players thinking as regards funds being generated through their efforts.
you get the feeling that 2008 has the potential to be an eventful year off the pitch.

After witnessing Gooch's supreme display of skill there last september, watching Kaka and Ronaldinho would pale in comparison. Something about paint....dry.....

Forgive me if I refuse to get worked up about this one.
If the Kerry of the international Soccer world is coming to Ireland, what better showcase for their talents than Croke Park? The only objection I would have to the game being played is that, on their current form, the Irish team are heading for a massacre.
Can we not put this narrow parochialism about "foreign games" behind us once and for all?

Should be a great spectacle, fair enough, Ireland will probably get mauled.. But will having it in Croke Park not make an even wider audience aware of the home of GAA and also make them more aware of GAA itself, could bring a lot more interest.
