Division 1 is made up of the top 4 in 1a & 1b last year. From Div 1a in 2007 you have Donegal, Mayo, Kerry & Tyrone. From the other section you have Galway, Kildare, Derry, Laois.
The fixtures usually come out in November I think. Hopefully we get 2 of the 3 northern teams at home. All long away trips anyway.

are there anymore padraig reidys, seamus scanlons, sean sullivans out there that deserve to get another chance, what about some one like paddy kelly, before ye go off on a rant about paddy kelly people would have said similar things about seamus scanlon at the start of the year.

Paddy Kelly is definately worth another look, but has probably burnt his bridges with this management team.
In relation to the league itself, last year we had 4 aways (Mayo, Fermanagh, Donegal & Dublin) with 3 homes (Cork, Limerick, Tyrone). I presume that means this year we'll have 4 homes and 3 aways. Galway away would make for a nice weekend in Salthill....

Paddy Kelly definitely deserves a look. Can provide cover for wing back line midfield etc. Fit, strong player.

I dunno bout paddy lads. I mean in fairness is he any better than danny bohane or some of the other defenders midfielders or half forwards we have around. I know it sounds terrible but paddy reminds me of a cheap mans seamus moynihan. He would be an ok midfielder except his too small. Too light for picking up the breaks and just a bit too loose as a defender. has decent ball skills as a half forward and all but is he better thand darren, or sean or dave moran or any of those minors coming thru ?

i would agree with u attacking wing back, prob not good enough for midfield, he is def not a forward as he wont get u scores, maybe could do as a wing back but has the strength and decent ball skills but his defending would want alot of work

The Donegal and Mayo games should be at home and the Tyrone game away - if last year's fixtures are anything to go by. It would be great to beat Tyrone in Healy Park ;D and for selfish reasons I hope the Derry game is away. Let's hope we can break our jinx and win our opening game next year!

Paddy would be a welcome addition to the panel. There is pleny stuff coming through in terms of gilt edge forwards and one or two mid field operators. We seriously need defenders for cover and the future. Come back Brendan Guiney F.F.S and bring Keane with you.

keane and guiney will have plenty of chances to shine with Feale Rangers and Listowel before the year is out. Always impressed by keane and feel he is worth a look in the mcgrath cup at the very least

Guiney for one needs a look in alright. Donnchadh Walsh did well enough in the county semi yesterday and given that we'll need a new number 8 in the next year or 2 is possibly the only option there.

Lets be realistic lads. On another thread they are talking up some off the wall stuff about who will get called in for next year.
Tommy Walsh Paddy Curran David Moran
will wear the senior jersey next year. They are the future.
Some of the subs need to be checked to see if they have the capability or not. Bohane (i saw Declan take him for about 3-6 in one trial game), oflaharta, o'leary, hussey, o'connor need to step up or move aside.
Normally a few lads are called in after a good run in the county championship. From what i have seen, Guiney, keane, donncha walsh (has improved), kieran foley have impressed.
Other than that the players currently on the fringes of the squad - doyle, aidan o'shea, kieran quirke are there or thereabouts.
If we add all that up it comes to about 40 players which is plenty.
My big bone of contention is that there should be more pressure put on the lads from numbers 22-30 to perform in training. the end of the panel did not change all year.

Yes. Forgot about him. He could certainly improve a lot from a full year in training with the lads.
The same is true of Paddy Curtin and Barry John Walsh but i would let them be for another year.
I think it is fair to say that we need to get the young lads in training asap to get them up to the required fitness, strength and familiar with our style of play. The days of bringing a fella in for a league game with no conditioning is long gone.
Reidy, Young, Darren, Sheehan, Paul OConnor all served their time learning their trade in training for year or two before they were thrown in. Come to think of it so did MArc, Diarmuid, Aidan, Star and many more. The improvement they made from just training with Gooch, Darragh and the lads meant that when they were given their chance they had a good chance of success. Imagine throwing say ,Enright, in for a league game without being in training.
As far as i know, Gooch is the exception to the rule in this regard.

i would think that i can do a player nothing but the world of good from training with the seniors, and if that player has natural talent then he could prove to be excellent, it even brings on a not so good player

alan o sullivan from tousist must be another prospect that would benifit from training with the seniors also, county minor,2 years with the u21's and junior this year,he has one more left with the u21's in '08.
he played midfield on all these teams to date.

I think that is his problem Mickmack. He is not tall enough to play midfield in my view. I think he is 5 10 or 5 11. Maybe one of the Kenmare district contingent can verify this.

still you dont play county minor @ midfield and then follow that up by playing midfield on the u21 team three years in a row without having something to offer,i agree though he might be fractionally on the small side for midfield, theres only one way to find out!

Billy played league with Kerry a while back. Don't think him coming back is an issue anyway.

There was rumours that billy left the kerry squad on rather bad terms. Something about a leaked team to the Kerryman Now now we can't have these "rumours" being circulated around here!!! this is not a gossip mongers forum!!! Only kidding with you... I don't thin Billy would be able to justify his place on the panel not to mind the team.. Saying that though we managed to get Seamus Scanlon to kick a point in the All Ireland Final ... we might even get Billy Sheehan to kick the ball if he comes back!!

it must be getting near the time to give last years minor crop a chance to cut their teeth during the national league this coming spring.
lads like darren, sean sull, kieran o leary, paul oconnor, donnacha walsh etc could also do with extended league runs.
pats o shea said in todays paper that he doesnt think any kerry players are taking a break from football.

Im suprised nobody has mentioned Brian Mc Mahon of Dr Crokes. He was unreal all last year on crokes all ireland run (got injured early in the final). Dont think he would make the team but is as good as the defenders on the bench we had this year.

Sports news just said that the national league fixtures are out - Kerry away to Donegal in the first round. Cant find the fixtures though - checked gaa.ie & hoganstand.ie - anybody else throw a bit of light on it?
