wonder is this where the sun made up their story yesterday then that ireland was going to bid for the 2018 world cup?! i like developments like this, its not needed and a potential waste of money, but i would love to see ireland part host a major even like a euro championship/RWC/ even a football WC, and developments like this, make it a little bit more possible. this would give us 3 world class stadiums anyway. add in one or 2 more like limerick and thurlus and then we are in a great position to cost with the likes of scotland.

Sport is universal, in this day and age to class any sport as "foreign" is frankly shocking. To play soccer doesnt make you English. The GAA in cork have set out to bulid a fantastic new stadium and immediately they a plant the seeds of its downfall. Crazy decision. Shows the foul nature of patriotism still runs deep in the veins of the GAA.

Its hard enough to get to that feckin place when theres 25-30 thousand going, imagine what it would be like with 60,000 trying to get out there. Even when we win there, that walk back into town down that tree lined road with nothin but factories at either side of the road is a balls.

I think the true nature of the GAA is summed up by the fact the Bon Jovi got to play Croke Park before the Irish rugby team did. Theirs a hardcore bunch within the GAA that wont embrace the present, prefer to dwell in the past. A modern Croke park was extent of there vision. Inter county palyers have surpassed the GAA in terms goals and targets and become professional in all but name. The AFL has this sussed out and are coming to tout our best and brightest. For free!

Especially if you're running for a train after the match. I remember after we lost in 2006 having one of the most miserable days of my life having to walk in the scorching heat to the train and then to find all the drinks vending machines out of order in the station! Never enjoy the trip to Pairc Ui Caoimh.

In 83 there was terrible rain all morning and you had to walk on the walls at certain parts of the road near the stadium so you didnt get soaked. The day in 88 when Maurice Fitz announced his arrival to the GAA world was another wet day and a depressing walk back! Not to mention 99. Although I think it stopped raining on the way back into town in 96 - although the skies could have opened and I wouldnt have cared less that day.

Its my least favourite venue also. Remember a league final back around 1980 when we were nearly all crushed outside on way in. Like Hillsborough

Why dont the fai sell Turners Cross, the irfu sell Musgrave Park and both organisations pump the money in to the new Pairc Ui Caoimh. One large stadium is enough? Limerick should have done something simular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it does show up the inept planning of certain sections of the government (for giving planning permission), the GAA (for building so many large, unfillable grounds) and the FAI and IRFU (for not having a more robust vision in the past), that we have more 50,000 plus single sport capacity stadia in Ireland than they do multi sport stadia in France!! Population of France - 60 million plus. Population of the Republic of Ireland - 4 million. In fact, including Stade de France, Munster has more 40,000 plus capacity stadia than France!! France has three, the Velodrome in Marseille, Parc des Princes and the Stade de France. Munster has four, Fitzgerald Stadium, Semple Stadium, The Gaelic Grounds and Pairc Ui Caoimh. Says it all.

Yeah but we have to realise when we talk about our stadiums with high capacities that all our stadiums have mostly terracing and most have not got the facilities to host even a mart

Thurles and Limerick have more than 30,000 seats, and by the end of 2008 so will Killarney and Cork.

I heard this rumour alright. Apparently, Ireland and Scotland are going to launch a joint bid for the 2018 world cup. This bid will be dependent on Croke Park, Fitzgerald Stadium and Pairc ui Chaoimh as well as the new Landsdowne Road. Maybe we've found the real reason behind the re-development of these stadiums....because it's not for Munster finals! Watch this space...

99 ranks up there with my worst days ever at a sporting match. lashing rain, the minors got hammered, the seniors were hammered. god, that was one long walk outta there and an even longer drive home.

Was in Lake Tahoe working on the J1 - rang the family in the car on the way back from Pairc Ui Caoimh. Got the result, a comment along the lines that it was 'pure muck', and they hung up.
Needless to say, any punters I had to serve that day didn't get much chat out of me!!
