Jack O Connors selection committee picked this team:
1. Stephen Cluxton (Dublin) 2. Marc Ó Sé (Kerry) 3. Darren Fay (Meath) 4. Conor Gormley (Tyrone) 5. Tomás Ó Sé (Kerry) 6. Aidan O’Mahony (Kerry) 7. Barry Cahill (Dublin) 8 & 9 Darragh Ó Sé (Kerry) & Nicholas Murphy (Cork) 10. Declan O’Sullivan (Kerry) 11. Alan Brogan (Dublin) 12. Paul Galvin (Kerry) 13. Colm Cooper (Kerry) 14. Paddy Bradley (Derry) 15. Thomas Freeman (Monaghan)
Any thoughts?
4 changes from the All Star team - which is the more accurate selection?

galvin for bray murphy for whelan gormley for canty fay for mccloy.
i think this is perhaps the team that alot of people had predicted for the all stars, however, the only change would have been star in there, maybe at the expense of galvin. fair play to paul anyway for getting this award.

Fair enough. Killian Young could feel a bit aggrieved as might Donaghy. Who got GPA player of the year?

Still flawed, it was gpa members who picked this. At least they picked a proper half forward line this time. Remember last year McDonald ended up in the team at the expense of Galvin

I dont recall many people feeling agreived that Paul Galvin didnt get an All Star. He missed most of the league, was ok against Cork in the Munster Final, was injured for most of the Monaghan game and this effected his display which was poor enough that day, had a good game against Dublin and the same against Cork in the Final.
I think Murphy for Whelan is a close call and if Murphy got the All Star I'm sure that Whelan would have been on this team.
Donaghy may still feel he deserved a place ahead of Bradley but the years of ommitting Bradley from All Star teams seems to have cemented his place in the selections this year.

I dont think Kieran is too fussed bout the all-stars. His 24 and has won every possible honoour at senior intercounty level. He reminds me of eoin liston in a lot of ways. His first few years on the team he knew nothing but success in all ireland finals. Liston came on the team in 78 and won an all ireland in every year until the five in a row

Close call changes between the two teams.....not sure Gormley deserved the nod head of Canty to be fair to Tyrone.

would have had canty ahead of gormely and murphy ahead of cluxton and maybe I feel that galvin is lucky enough but all in all a better team than the allstars..dont think donaghy can feel too aggrieved

I think Galvin is a bit of a surprise for all reasons stated already. Bradley is a good forward but I dont think he deserves an all star or GPA award just cos he is a good player. If thats the criteria give it to declan Browne every year.
Cluxton is also puzzling to me. He has been better. Dont know who I would put in his place.
These oul awards will never satisfy everyone anyway

what more could Donaghy have done to get an award..............
very good in Munster Final and scores a monster of a winning point........ took responsibility
Good v Monaghan Excellent V Dublin....... leadership dripped off him that day Excellent in the final V Cork

Bradley scored something like 1-25. Donaghy scored 2-2. Forwards are picked for their scores. Donaghy can have no complaints. He won the Player of the Year last year (when Darragh should have) and that along with his huge media profile has beniffited him more than any GPA or All Star award will do in the future.

Donaghy was average against Cork - not doing too much besides his point. I thought he was poor against Monaghan, dropping a lot of ball that came his way. I thought he had set up the goal but watching it afterwards it was actually a Monaghan back. He improved a lot for the Dublin game. In the final while he did brilliantly for the two goals and played well overall, he did miss a few points in the first half which thankfully didn't prove costly, particularly the ones that dropped into the goalie's hands. He was a vital player and Kerry wouldn't have won Sam in 2007 without him but I don't think he deserved an All-Star over the likes of Bradley, Cooper or Freeman.

I certainly didn't lose any sleep over Star not getting all-star or gpa awards. At least his position was hotly contested and I certainly didn't have him down as a certainty. Killian Young is the one I feel should have been recognised. He was outstanding this year, more so than Mahony in my humble opinion.....but sure we'll never all agree and I suppose that's the beauty of it.

I think galvin was very lucky to get an award this year.I think the man is a legend but dont think his performances warranted the award this year..Star was hard done by and Killian should have definately got one.
Any news on GPA player of the year or when it'll be announced??

Cluxton is also puzzling to me. He has been better. Dont know who I would put in his place. I would have given the keeper position to the Meath keeper can't remember his name........ahh....um....Brendan Murphy wasn't it??

Its interesting that fellow players appreciate Paul Galvin more than journalists do. Everyone would want his on their side.

Nothing very controversial overall, Cluxton a bit lucky, Whelo a bit unlucky, Alan Brogan was better in the last 2 years than this year, Donaghy matured alot and deserved something, Bradley very very good, and has been for a long while, McCloy deserved something & Fay wasnt great, O'Doherty's day might well come. DOSe perhaps a bit lucky
