In the indo today tom o sullivan said he is staying on for another year. doesnt want to watch kerry win a 3 in a row from the sidelines, he wants no regrets. said also that he was speaking to DOS who feels the same. Happy Days indeed.
Another interesting point, he said with about 10 mins to go in the 06 Final he had a conversation with Mike McCarthy on the field, where mccarthy told him that this would be last time they played together. Hunger surely gone when a man knows he's finished with 10 mins before he lifts Sam.

just read that......surprising to see how close tom was to giving up....so, looks like we need to plan for 2009 without Tom and Darragh, unless theres 4 in a row talk!
as regards the conversation on the pitch, both of them said that they were quitting, not just mike mac.

Such conversations between kerry players on the hollowed sacret sod that is croker on many a septembers all-ireland final day as calm settles, after the ebbing and flowing of stormy tidal waves subsides are parts of the mystical legends that makes up kerrys footballing folklore.

www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/stars-put-retirement-on-hold-for-kerrys-historic-bid-1203923.htmlStars put retirement on hold for Kerry's historic bid Friday October 26 2007 Tom O'Sullivan has put retirement on hold to focus on landing the three-in-a-row with Kerry in 2008 -- and veteran midfielder Darragh O Se will follow suit. The 2007 season may be just over but O'Sullivan is already considering the prospect of making history next year with a third All-Ireland on the trot. The last team to achieve that feat was Mick O'Dwyer's Kerry back in 1986 but since then only three teams have managed back to back titles -- Meath, Cork and Kerry. The prospect of entering the history books is enough for O'Sullivan (29) to put off all thoughts about retirement and commit for 2008. Further good news is that the Rathmore man says veteran midfielder O Se (32), who recently collected his fourth All Star award, has made a similar commitment. "I'll hang tough for next year," said O'Sullivan in Dublin yesterday at the launch of Saturday night's inter provincial football final. Regrets "I'd be a very foolish man if I retired and Kerry came along and won three-in-a-row. I don't want any regrets. "I know he (Darragh O Se) is thinking the same thing. I spoke to him already about it and he is happy enough to stay on for the three-in-a-row. "Certainly that's what I'm staying on for. I am searching for three-in-a-row. Most other players are the same." Kerry boss Pat O'Shea will be delighted with the news having lost Mike McCarthy and Seamus Moynihan to retirement ahead of the 2007 season. O'Sullivan was close to joining that pair in retirement and revealed a bizarre conversation that took place towards the end of the 2006 All-Ireland final win over Mayo. "Mike McCarthy was sick of it, the hunger wasn't there any more and we spoke on the field and said this will be our last time on the field together," recalled O'Sullivan. "There was about 10 minutes to go in the game. Myself and Mike McCarthy said there was no way we were playing again." McCarthy followed through on his quit threat but O'Sullivan stuck around for this year's successful All-Ireland campaign. The quest for a third Sam Maguire Cup on the trot will begin with a Munster SFC semi-final tie against Clare or Waterford on June 8 next.

Apparently Mike made a block, turned to Tom and said I won't be back next year. It's already come up in another interview earlier this year

To lose Mike Mac, Moynihan, FItzmaurice and Tom Sullivan in 2 years would be too much for our defence. We've loads of cover in the forwards but not enough in the backs.
