Kerrygold.................Seanie Walsh at corner back..............
For fecks sake.....
So you are enjoying the celebrations in that wonderful part of the world called the Iveragh Peninsula where the rugged breathtaking beauty is matched only by the sheer grace and beauty of its footballers. Not even the whole of BRAZIL has thrown up such players as Mick o Connell, Mick o Dwyer, Jacko, Ger Lynch, Maurice Fitzgerald, Brian Sheehan, Kilian Young and Declan o Sullivan.

next year will be the diamond delema, this year we had 9 forwards to keep happy, next year david moran, paddy curran, tommy walshe, barry john walshe, paul o connor, kieran o leary will all be snapping at the heels,it will be like having a whole pack of dogs sitting around the kitchen table at dinner time with sad eyes looking up waiting for the tib tabs to fall to the ground. The options we have are frightening .... KG im almost certain Barry John is minor again next year.

Ah lads, calm down a bit. No doubt about it - this is a fantastic team. But if it wasn't for 2 last minute kicks of a ball the team of all talents would have won 9 in a row! Also, those boys didn't have a second bit of the cherry, as the current team did last year. This is one of the great Kerry teams - but we're a few years away from being able to say they matched Dwyer's team.

We could say that this team would have won their 4th in-a-row last Sunday only for the kick of a ball. And in the modern era that would have, imo, matched O'Dwyer's team.

Badbilly is bringing a bit of common sense to the table!! The last 'good' team Kerry played was Tyrone '05 and we all know what happened then.. Armagh last year were full of OAP's and that was demonstarted this year again when Derry beat them..
This year, a very fair Monaghan team were beaten by the minimum and an even fairer Dublin team by two points..
Are people saying that Kerry '75 -> '86 would only have beaten Dublin '07 by two points??!!

If one wanted to use American standards (that's where I'm from, so I will), the stats used in the topic kickoff would constitute a Dynasty.
How's that sound?

Regardless of how the current players measure up to the former greats, there is no doubt that we are very lucky to have this incredibly skillful and successful team to follow. What difference does it make as to which era was better...lets just enjoy the good run while it lasts!
All eras are different - these guys are the best in Ireland today and that's enough for this supporter!

serious collection of class footballers alright mickmack, but shur maybe south kerry is the brazil of kerry football. That collection, all gifted can and could gracefully weave their magic on the croker sod like a great artists brush caressing a blank canvass to create a delightfully beautiful master piece to behold the eye. shur they say the last ice age didnt freeze south kerry at all,the only land bank in europe to escape, theres evidence to support the claim that south kerry people are the oldest tribe in europe, theres evidence of life back then.Shur we must be firece pure so down here or else were just playing and practicing the game longer than ye up there in north kerry. the delightfully mystical silken skills of micko connell, john egan and maurice are just a meer celebration of the wonderfull beauty they inhabit, just paying homage to the glorious valleys, mountains, coast lines of the wonderful iveragh peninsula.Maurice in '97 was just performing a dance of prayer in croker to thank the footballing gods that ghost our valleys and mountains on the peninsula. its simple really, its just an expression of joy and thanks to where we come from in an art form through our football,as you know mickmack,we have a good senior team down here and we love producing winning all-ireland captains at the this moment in time.Long may it continue. ;D

I picked up a book recently about the works of Sigerson Clifford. As you know he wrote the Boys of Barr na Sraide. He spent his later life in Dublin but his widow described his annual trip to Caherciveen ...... life a someone going to Lourdes to get their faith restored. He would return fulfilled. Pride of place is a powerful thing.

Kerry would be going for 5 in a row in 2008 if they had not been beaten by Tyrone in 2005. When you look at it like that it is hard to believe. That is some achievement for a team in the modern era!!

No other team that ever won a 2 in a row lost a game en route... ye are no where near the greats. How many other teams through the years would have won 2 in a row if they had a backdoor? Maybe ye can pull off a genuine 2 in a row next year before shouting of greatness.
