Andy Comerford, Kilkenny - winning captain 2002 was born in London. I think Joe Lennon was in fact born in Down – Aghaderg to be precise.

Good singer, never made the cut at inter-county though. He was a big fan of direct football, that's what his song 'Imagine' was about. "Imagine no possession s (football)"

I am aware that this thread refers to winning captains but it would be a missed opportunity not to mention here probably Kerry's greatest 'non-Irish born All-Ireland medal winner' – Bob Stack of Ballybunion. He was born in New York of Irish parents and returned to live in Doon, close to Ballybunion, as a teenager with very little exposure to Gaelic football. As a child he fell from a roof and broke his two ankles and as a result he always wore rubber band strapping. One single pair of boots carried him to six All Ireland's wins - 24, 26, 29, 30, 31 and 32. I personally met this modest and unassuming man more than once and was struck by his small stature for a midfielder– about 5ft 9ins. Playing alongside Con Brosnan they were practically unbeatable. Bob Stack died in 1976 and the pitch in Ballybunion is named after him.
