Underage Game abandoned due to melee 19 October 2007
A 14 year-old boy ended up in hospital after a large-scale brawl broke out between two underage sides at a Lixnaw in Kerry on Sunday.
Luke Fitzgerald was brought to hospital with neck and shoulder injuries following a tackle. Players from both sides got involved with one another after the injury which resulted in parents and mentors rushing on from the sidelines to break-up the row.
Fitzgerald was released Sunday evening with severe tissue damage to his neck and shoulder.
The hurling match between Kilmoyley and Ballyduff had to be abandoned 15 minutes before the end as both sets of players failed to settle.
Coiste na nOg chairman Joe Walsh said they will wait for the referee’s report before any action is taken.
"The referee’s report is expected in a few days and then we’ll take the necessary action," explained Walsh.

very disappointing altogether why can't we stamp this kind of theing out. I think a lot of violent incidents in GAA are a result of a lack of respect for officials. Just a thought but on watching the rugby world cup I couldn't get over the respect the players had for the officials. Very admirable....

Seriously if this is true its a disgrace. Personally I am unhappy with the general move towards
this kind of thing. I know that society is changing but in The Kingdom we should strive to
maintain our great sporting tradition.

Very admirable.... how can youngs lads of 14/15 have respect for officials when the official involved is only a few years older than themselves, there is youngs officiatin within the nk hurling board and they are only 17,18 and 20,reffin juniors matches,do you honestly think this is right, blame lies wholely at the door of the nk hurling board
