I find it funny that nobody made a big deal of the fact that Bryan Sheehan was nominated by Skellig to be captain this year and that Declan ended up captain when Sheehan was playing. I didnt want to bring it up at the time cos it would only open up another can of worms we didnt need to open up but can anybody give me a definitive answer on it?

it was the sensible decision taken by a sensible manager, other wise the presure might have ensured that bryan didnt make the kerry team at all.
if people are sensible and responsible their is nothing wrong with the present method of selecting the kerry captain.
in 1982 ger lynch was the rightfull captain of kerry, ger didnt make the team with the honour going to john egan.

Yeah but how did the St Marys club (who have had a tough time over the last 2 seasons) feel when their man should have been receiving Sam on the 16th when it had been decided by the traditional way of doing things that Bryan would be captain.

I think it was just a sensible decision taken by Pat and Bryan when he came back into the team for the semi-final. It would have been very detrimental to everybody if he made a fuss and insisted on being captain and then Kery lost or if he played badly and was then dropped for the final. Better to be remembered as an all-Ireland winner than as a losing captain.

I'm not sure if Declan was going to receive the cup with Bryan before Liam Mulvihill intervened?

I felt that bryan and declan should have lifted the cup together, like gooch and dec did last year,i felt that it was the least bryan deserved. However i fully agreed with the decision to leave dec as captain when bryan was reinstated to the startin 15,good decision by all involved,i think bryan was just happy to be on the first 15 when he got his chance but it would have been a nice touch if both had lifted the cup together.

Is it not the same as they handed it back to Declan in 2006? Not that I'm agreeing or disagreeing, but surely same rule should apply to both players.

Brian Sheehan had enough to do in 2007 to nail down a place. The captaincy fecked up Declan in 2005 as he was too young.
Only established players ....... 4/5 years on the team............should be captain
