Meath '96, Galway '98, Tyrone '03. A lot of teams have come from nowhere to win provincial titles and that's what the weaker counties are aiming for. I wouldn't exactly at that any of these teams bar Galway came out if nowhere. I bet anyone gieven maybe three guesses will name the AI champs foe next year. Champions league format is the way to go but thats another arguement I was at the qualifier in 2002 when Sligo beat Tyrone and I doubt if there was anyone in Corke Park that day who would have predicted Tyrone to be All-Ireland champions a little over a year later.

That was the first time I saw grown men weep for joy at a football match. The Sligo man sitting behind me literally had to sit back down he was sobbing so much.

A bad decision indeed !! So much for encouragement and bringing along the weaker counties, will this make them stronger? I think not! Playing in a munster final against Kerry or Cork would be a big occasion and win or lose, must be the way foreward for these counties.

I must say im bewildered. The sooner people here realise that in a predominantly hurling province that is Munster, a seeded draw or a non seeded draw wont make a penny of a differecne the better. Like Kilkenny in Leinster, the provincials are all about match practice for the big boys. The real c'ship begins in the q'final.

The championship is for all counties not just the "big boys"

The unseeded draw means that a "weaker" county must get into the Munster final if Kerry and Cork are on the other side of the draw. The prospect of avoiding "soft" MF wins by either one of the big two was balanced against allowing a "weaker" side the occasional glory of a MF appearance. The former point of view won to the chagrin of three counties (and apparently the Waterford public).
Was this right?
