While there is no doubting the fervour in the North Kerry for the NK Championship, the fact remains that the fare is of poor standard.......... "septic bad" seems to be a recurring theme.
Why is it that this is so when compared in particular to South Kerry with its team of all the talents.

The standard in the other divisional championships is higher for a number of reasons
1. The competitions start earlier (eg O'Donoghue cup) first round is in August therefore when all the first round games with weaker teams are on in North Kerry, the Senior clubs are playing quarter and semi finals in east kerry eg Kilcummin, Legion etc or Dingle V Annascaul in west Kerry 2. The strength of clubs in certain divisions goes in cycles. In the early 70's not one club from south kerry would have beaten any of the top 6 clubs in North Kerry. 3. Referees tend to leave a lot more tackling and hard-hitting go in north kerry which leads to a different (some say poorer) standard of football. 4. As a race Irish people dont embrace change very well, therefore you will have more skillful players from south kerry and you will have tougher players in North Kerry. 5. Before everyone else starts slating the NK championship on here, the East Kerry championship was a walkover for Crokes last year, the South Kerry final was very low-scoring and the NK championship final and Brendans final were probably the best of the lot.

i suppose the county final is nicely poised, south v north clashing on common ground in tralee.
it will be a clash of two great tribes of kerry football, both of whom have contributed greatly to kerrys cause over the decade on asualts in croker in the many battles for sam.
it will be interesting, the pure footballing skills of south kerry up against the more physical dogged north kerry team, typified by the silken skills of maurice fitz and the great kerry warrior that is paul galvin.
its a mouth watering prospect to wet the taste buds on the 11th of november.Either the way we will have a great kerry captain next year in the shape of declan or paul, both men full of heart and commitment and with a great love for the green and gold jersey.

I don't think Declan will be captain next year unless Dromid win Sth Kerry c'ship (assuming Sth Kerry win the county c'ship). Probably be Bryan Sheehan or Killian Young.

Why is it that this is so when compared in particular to South Kerry with its team of all the talents. Most of the games last weekend contained teams with little hope of winning out the NKC (Barring maybe Beale). So i wouldn't be jumpin on the bandwagon bout the poor standard already. Plus the fact - for most of the teams last week, it was their first competitive outing in about 6 weeks. I think the competition really kicks off this weekend with Listowel V Tarbert. It's like Ferguson V Wenger with the mind games goin on over in the NKC thread! I'll probably get slated for this coz there's too many games already but how about a competition between the winners of each divisional c-ship?? The fixtures commitee would be fairly impressed with my suggestion!

first off, these games are too often hyped up and then, will always disappoint as a result. you have to take into account the fact that most of these games are played from Mid October onwards, so that does not help. However, there are still some great games every year and im sure there will this year.
the north kerry championship is different to anything else, cant put my finger on why so, maybe tradition plays a part and tradition dies hard in Kerry.
one thing, while i welcome as many north kerry threads as possible, how come this wasnt put in the main one!?!

Maybe the reason why the NK board leave the championship off until now is so that it helps the style of football thet NK teams play-Tough, dogged and not the most free flowing/skillful!!!

Horse manure!! The NK board have it on at this time of the year because if they had it in the summer the farmers have to work on sundays and so crowds would be down!!

I was at yesterdays game in moyvane Emmets V Tarbert and to be honest it did not feel like a north kerry champ game it was pure dead and bothe teams looked like they were playing a challenge match, apart from skinnys antics on the sideline other wise very poor.
