Few results from todays u21 "winter" championship
St Brendans 0-16 V 2-8 O Dorney/Crotta
Causeway 1-13 V 1-4 Kilmoyley
Lixnaw got a walkover off Ballyheigue
Ballyduff and South Kerry was put back due to Kenmares game tomorrow
Ballyheigue hurling seems to be slipping badly, that u21 team would have been the minor team that made the minor county final a few years back.

Its sad to see the state Ballyheigue are in. If im not mistaken its 3/4 years since they last won a county championship game? It was only maybe 3 years ago they won Div 1 of the county league. Since Boxer stopped playing they seem to be struggling big time to even get scores in games

what benefit is it to play the u21 hurling this time of the year? It always seems to end up been ran off in the worst time of the year, with players going away during the summer teams would be hard pressed to field teams during the summer, but this could be played in April or May. Three weekends is all that it would take,no replays extra time in all games and if needs be have it 13 a side if teams are struggling to field teams. Kenmare lost today to Castlemartyr of Cork in the Munster Junior Club Championship Kenmare 0-10 Castlemartyr 1-16

So we have two Kerry teams in action this weekend,
Lixnaw against Bruff of Limerick in the Munster Intermediate Club Semi Fianl in Austin Stacks Park on Sunday at 2pm
And also the Clanmaurice Camogie team are playing Four Roads of Roscommon in the All Ireland Junior Club Semi Final also on Sunday at 2pm in McDonagh Park in Nenagh
Best of luck to both teams.

Another walkover today in the U21 championship, last years champions Ballyduff couldnt field a team against South Kerry,a bit of a shock that.
So that leaves Lixnaw,St Brendans,Causeway and South Kerry in the hat for the semi finals.

Bruff 2-13 Lixnaw 2-10 HT 1-5 0-7
Ten euro to get into this one. Make that twenty and you are still ahead. This was a great contest in poor conditions on a dead sod where the ball refused to make any effort at bouncing. There was a good scattering of people there too.
Lixnaw played with the strong breeze in the first half but started nervously. Bruff got the opening point and then not long after got a goal which we describe colloquially as poxy. The ball was hit in hopefully from the right wing, meant as a cross or a point, but deceived Lixnaw goalie, David Silles, and finished to the net. One felt, at this time of the year in poor conditions, that the goal could be invaluable. Lixnaw defiantly played to such a limit, a lot of their players at least, that as the second half progressed one began to feel the significance of that poxy goal diminishing to such an extent that well into the second half Lixnaw went ahead to the raucous acclaim of their supporters ,only to be immediately undone by yes, another poxy goal. A ball, for which there was ample opportunities to clear, somehow fell over the line. Lixnaw did not cave in but, with the aid of that gale, Bruff were able to loft over the clinching points.
The irony is that in between those poxy goals Lixnaw scored two belonging to the "memories are made of this" category. Both were scored in the second half and no surprise to relate that one was scored by that supreme artist, Michsel Conway, and the other by his magical little helper, James O'Flaherty. Mention of those boys underlines the poverty of the rest of the Lixnaw attack. While Michael and James had the crowd murmuring every time they approached the ball, the remainder were too blunt. Even Ricky Heffernan made little impression but he was flawless from frees, scoring seven in all. Paul Galvin came on after about ten minutes of the second half on the right wing and won most of the ball that came his his and, as usual, did not waste one. I felt he should have been moved into the forty to get him more involved as a play maker.
David Silles may have been deceived by the first goal but he was deceived by little else. He made two superlative saves in the second and when one considers those saves it leads one to concede that Bruff probably deserved to win in the net. In the first half, all the full back line of the Corridan brothers and Trevor McKenna played well. However, Pat was switched to CHB in the second half where a lot of the play bypassed him because of the wind.
Paul Browne was the only Limerick senior on the field but he was well matched by John Griffin who did all one man could do. Brendan Brosnan struggled at wing back on the high fielding Paddy O'Leary but was more prominent at centre field in the second half.
A lot of these Lixnaw lads are young and will only improve. Darragh Shanahan is one of their youngest. He has had a fine year but struggled today. Darragh is a smart boy and smart boys benefit from painful experiences.
But life is unfair and infuriating. The market decrees that two poxy goals has equal value to two glittering ones. Wouldn't it make you sick.

Thank you for that report Veteran.
Michael Conway is an artist indeed and has suffered two cruciate ligament injuries. His dad Johnny played in goal for Kerry hurlers of for about 15 years.
Its a great sign of Paul to put his shoulder to the wheel with the lads he grew up with.

So that leaves Lixnaw,St Brendans,Causeway and South Kerry in the hat for the semi finals. Why teams are giving so many walkovers at this level needs to be looked at. Is it because of the time of year its being played? Are lads missing because they're away at college etc Why not move it to late August early September? The reason im saying this date is because i think it the IT should enter their freshers team into it. I think it'd be a very good test for the clubs and their players to be coming up against some of the players the IT would have

Im not sure but I think when that Ballyduff U21 team were Minors I think they had to join up with Causeway as they didnt have enough to go it alone.

County Committee Set To Investigate After Hurling Final Abandoned County Committee are set to investigate an alleged assault on a match official which led to a County Final being abandoned. The Senior Hurling League Division 2 decider between Causeway and Ladys Walk was called off by referee Tony McCarthy 10 minutes into the second half following an incident with an official. It’s believed the official in question was struck with a hurley, but the CCC of County Committee are awaiting the referee’s report on the matter. At the time of the incident, Causeway were leading by 3-7 to 0-6. www.radiokerry.ie/sport/county-committee-set-to-investigate-after-hurling-final-abandoned/

this is a disgrace.
its about time that proper sanctions are put on these players and clubs, some of the hurling folk seem to be a different breed and it needs to be stopped.

Don't think a year or even a 2 year ban is enough for this sort of an attack if that report is accurate.
A GAA ban might be the least of his worries anyway if the law is getting involved.

Gland to see he went to the guards with it. Things like this happen far too often and the its not reported. This may be a good way to try and solve the problem

As I have said here before, the legal route is the only way to deal with this. Let it be decided up Ashe Street. Otherwise this, all too common occurrance will continue every weekend.
