we will need to improve around the middle 1/3 of the field to beat cork, but i think we will, all things being equal we should have too much for cork as we have far better footballers full stop.plus i think cork showed their full hand in the munster final like last year , and i expect we will have improved by at least 6 points from the munster final.

The big lanky fella has a name, Michael Cussen. Also, it would be nice for you to call the team Cork as opposed to the silly langers reference. he's getting touchy lads. the pressure must be getting to them

Nope, it's me being a proud Cork person and nothing less. I would do the same on rebelgaa if they decided to call yer lot something derogatory, hence the reason I get accused of being a Kerryman far too may times for my liking.

I wonder how Cork backs will match up against the Kerry forwards and vice versa I think they might put Canty on Gooch. They did that in the MF after Gooch had cleaned out O'Connor. That would mean they would put Shields on Donaghy. If Star roams that match up might work to a certain extent. It would be risky if Star stays at the edge of the square. The above formation would mean that O'Connor would be on Sheehan. I think O'Connor is a potential weak link as he tends to foul a lot. If he does Sheehan will punish him. In the half foward line I think Cork will put Noel on Galvin. Anthing could happen there. A lot of people forget that they are both good footballers. That would leave Brosnan on Spillane which would advantage Cork. Then again if Kerry use Brosnan well he would have a bit more pace than Spillane. That would leave Lynch on Declan. Lynch is a good footballer but I think Declan has too much pace for him at this stage.
At the other side it depends on if Cork play Masters or Goulding. If they play Masters Kerry will put Marc on him and Reidy on O'Connor. O'Connor and Reidy have improved a lot since the Munster final.
Masters can be good but he has yet to do it in Croke Park. If they play Goulding I think Kerry might put Reidy on Goulding and Marc on Donncaha O'Connor.
Cussen: he would be down to be marked by Tom but Cussen will Roam will Tom be sent with him? It might be an idea to let Cussen Roam with Young following him put Reidy on the wing on Miskella and leave Tom and Marc on O'Connor and Masters/Goulding.
Re Aidan and Tomas I would inclined to put Aidan on McMahon and Tomas following O'Neill who is good in midfield but won't score much. Tomas would be dangerous as well being that bit further forward.
Cork will get a lot of midfield ball but at the expense of a scoring threat. Miskella and O'Neill would be hard to rely on for scores in a tight game. They will be relying on Master/Goulding and O'Connor for a lot of scores and to a lesser extent McMahon. Thats why Kerry really need to be tight on these three guys.

Having to wait two weeks for this match to happen is a form of torture devised by a devious mind. The Chinese say that the anticipation of death is worse than death itself......try waiting for an All-Ireland final! Winter will be the longest on record for the losing supporters so please let it be Kerry; the thought of Sam being, over there, does not bear thinking about. This Kerry team has all the attributes and I think more importantly has had the more serious tests of their mettle. This is not to suggest that Cork have not been tested, their current position belies such thinking, but I do not think that they have had their weaknesses exposed nor their strengths confirmed. It is obvious to all where their potentiel lies but there has been no talk of where they may be susceptible. Conversely Kerry have had weaknesses exposed and strategy dissected to a molecular level but they have rectified the shortcomings where it matters most, on the field of play where it hurts the most. The Monaghan match and its last 10 minutes is where this team was forged on the anvil of hard graft in the white heat of battle. That match was worth 6 months of the most hellish training regime and for some it made them men. A confrontation in July does not win you an All-Ireland and has now become a phoney war with the only merit being a win; nothing beats winning though!

Hiya,
I'm new to the forum. Stumbled across it via Google. I'm going to watch the Kerry v Cork game with my boyfriend - I'm London born to Kerry parents and he's a Cork boy (and a very bad loser)! I'll die if Kerry don't win - get them rosary beads out bouy!

Thank god for that. We got away with one all ireland without Darragh. Wouldn't fancy another. Anyone reckon Tommy Griffin did enough to merit a place for the final? Looking at the game again he did gaisce when he came on but ran out of puff. Scanlon did quite well but if Tommy is fit I'd go for him.

Oh just one other thing............in 1973 both Riche Bennis and Billy Morgan won All- Irelands and both will walk the line in the 2 finals this year...hopefully not an omen

anyone see paul galvin in d examiner today with pat o sheas son, both on their first day in d sem. on d field he is such a tough man ruthless at times while off it he is meant to be a gentleman. nevertheless he is a legend and even better he thrives on rolling over cork teams. i hope he does on d 16th anyway

Well......I watched the Munster Final again.
I hope Pat o Shea shows it to the lads a few times.
Kevin McMahon had the beating of Tomas. Masters had the better of Marc for lots of the game.
The similarities in Kerrys last 3 championship games are stark.
In all 3 Kerry were behind at half time but won the second half. Massive composure resulted in winning scores being manufactured in the final minutes of all matches. In the Munster final and the Dubs game Kerry spurned chances to go 8 points up thru a touch of showboating and arrogance. In both games they could have been caught at the death.
A midfield fade out in all 3 matches needs to be addressed.
Corks backs were better than Dubin but i think the Dubs have more firepower up front. Tactically Morgan is way better than Caffrey.
We need to get parity in the middle third to win....... this may require Dara, Donaghy, Tommy Griffin and scanlan at various stages but its the key.

Does anyone believe Mike Frank warrants a place in the final? - he was great against Cork in the Munster Final - he is being hard done if you ask me.

Darraghs 67th championship appearance will create a new Kerry record. Is it a new national record in football and hurling?

John O'Leary(former Dublin keeper) has the record amount of appearances in Football @70. He conceded 51 goals. But the amazing fact is that he never missed a match from from 1 to 70.

But we really don't have a clue (apart from a few people on here who seem to be privy to such info) how players are performing in training.
