It should be a cracking weekend and I will be glued to as much of the hurling as is possible.....
Galway v Kilkenny will be a humdinger and there won't more than a point or two in it. With Tony Griffin back in the Clare squad, they will be a stronger proposition up front than they have been all year.
For me,
Waterford Clare Kilkenny Tipperary

The knockout in the hurling starts this weekend. ON SATURDAY ....... Tipp v Wexford. Wexford look poor and Tipp are on a high even without the injured Eoin kelly. Kilkenny v Galway ... hard to know how the recent tragedy will effect Kilkenny but the comments by Loughnane about "kILKENNY SAVAGERY" should concentrate the minds in Kilkenny so Kilkenny should win unless Galway find a huge performance out of somewhere. ON SUNDAY... Limerick v Clare. In many ways this is Limericks year so far while Clare havent done much apart from fighting with Cork and beating a Galway side that basically beat themselves. Limerick should do it but their record in Croke Park is shocking..........since 1973 Cork v Waterford.... As the winners on Sunday play each each in the semi final before the Kerry match this will be seen by both as an All Ireland semi final......... Cork have lost two championship games so far and could now beat Warerford which is mad. However Waterford have found a few players and have the look of destiny about them so I go for Waterford. My tickets for Sunday arrived today........... who cares about the weather! Tipp by 6-8 Killkenny by 2-4 Limerick by 2 Waterford by 2

With the week thats in it kilkenny mighten like what loughnane said last week, former kilkenny captain Denis byrne advised the galway players to take up tennis or squash if they like the physical aspects of hurling.Interestingly its in the press somewhere that a galway player has stated recently that galway are a new young team trying to make the break through and that they dont need loughnanes utterances. Makes for an interesting game, you'd have to fancy kilkenny to unite this week and pull through.

Well, at the moment, after 42 minutes, Tipp lead by a point 1-9 to 2-5 and Eoin Kelly is now on the pitch!!

The gulf between Kilkenny, Waterford and Cork on the one hand and the rest on the other is huge. Wexford are poor but could have beaten Tipp by more. Tipp played for 6 of the last 7 weekends so fatigue must have been a factor... as well as complacency. Kilkenny will eat Wexford. Galway performed well but Kilkenny displayed great spirit when the fat was in the fire.
Dickie Murphy from Wexford was the ref for the second game and the winners would play his own county. That shouldnt happen.

Cork v Waterford was another hummdinger today. Not sure Cork have claims that it was a hop ball or a free out to be honest - I think Donal Og went to pick the ball off the ground and went to shield himself as Flynn came in and therefore it was a free out for picking the ball up.
But replay next weekend in Thurles it seems - should be a cracker.

I was one of 72000 lucky souls to witness a marvellous game between Cork and Waterford.
In forty years attending matches i havent seen better.
3 goals and 16 points each.
An epic rollercoaster of a match. Everyone was drained at the end and that was just the fans.
The injustice of the thing rankles. Kilkenny will be in the final after beating Wexford twice and Galway once.
All this from amateur sportsmen playing for the pride of the parish, the county, themselves.
What a marvellous thing we have in this country........ GAA.
ps ,......the Limerick v Clare was a nice leisurely affair ......... nothing of the intensity of the Cork and Waterford. Limerick are in the semi final despite losing the Munster Final to Waterford by 10 poins. A Joke. Cork look like they will now win the replay as they looked to have a little more in the tank while Waterford were flat out. Pity.

I wouldn't write Waterford off yet, you have to wonder if it's destined to be their year. It seems like the Clare thing of 95 and Wexford of 96.

Coming back when all looked dead and buried will be all that Waterford need to take out of the result today. There is a different belief to them this year that I think will see them through next weekend. They have a different level of focus altogether to previous years.

Was also lucky enough to be at the game in Croker today
THe Limerick Clare game wasn't great.A few good point taking but Limerick never looked like losing.
As for the 2nd...savage stuff. It had it all.One team on top then the other comes back and vice versa. Some super points from over on sidelines(2 by Dan the Man) and a frantic finish.
I fancy Waterfordin the replay. That game will bring them on from the few week lay off.Hope the replay is as good

A privilege to be at it yesterday. Another classic encounter. Pretty even through out. Cork are a very slick outfit and very professional. Fancy WD for the replay. Cork's best chance was today. Think WD will get more out of yesterdays game.

I was at all 4 of the games over the weekend and what a couple of days it was!!Fitzhenry coming up to score a winning penalty,Who would have thought it!! Galway giving Kilkenny a good aul run for their money for 60 mins before the cats class showed!! Shocks getting 11 points for Limerick and Foley clearing everything from the back!! Cork vs Waterford well what a game got up with about three minutes to go and i was on my way to the exit when a ball was played in and bang a goal!!!
Thank God i turned around!!

In another strange move, the GAA have fixed the replay of next Sunday, after the Kilkenny Wexford semi final. What is that telling those two teams? That a Cork Waterford quarter final is more important?! Oh and not to mention that the football is on Saturday. I'm sure the Cork supporters who go to both must be fairly p off with having to go to Dublin twice the one weekend or fork out for over night accomodation in Dublin on a Bank holiday weekend. (same as last year) It's nice to see the GAA hasn't lost touch with the normal supporter.

It was just on the sportsnews that 7 limerick players got stuck in a lift at the team hotel yesterday morning for 40 minutes! One of the players rang a mate who works for a lift company and they got it going again manually!
Conspiracy theorists out there will note that the two of the maiin lift service companies - Ennis lifts and Mid West lifts - are both Clare companies!

Liam Griffin was on the radio a few minutes ago........."Wexford v Kilkenny is the curtain raiser and rightly so" as for Cork whinging....... he said "most counties would be delighted to be in the latter stages of both championships".
Put it this way Owenabue......... Only for the back door Cork would be gone out of both at this stage......... enjoy it while it lasts........... Cork is the biggest county in both codes and as such have an advantage over all other counties

Mickmack, do you think it is also fair that the minor hurling game is on in Portlaoise at 7.00 on Saturday evening and the minor football is on at 11.30 the next Saturday in Croke Park? The end result is both minor teams will be badly supported and the footballers will as well. Please do explain the advantage to me? These are the same plonkers who fixed the U21 football final for 7 in the evening up in Thurles. These are they same people who wouldn't move the football either last year. Oh I won't forget to thank my lucky star that the GAA are so considerate of the supporters who have to travel to all these games. But on a side note, at least Derry get there two games on in Croke Park the one day. I know it won't make a difference to me as I will still only be going to the football but what about families? I'm not asking the GAA to move everything to suit Cork, but a small bit of consideration for the supporters who end up supporting one of the few duel counties in Ireland and the Cork co board who are doing their best to keep it that way.

in fairness owen....... it is difficult......... its right that the two hurling matches are on the same day....... 82000 hurling people....... a unique occasion.
its also right that the two qualifiers are on the same day......... great for football people.

OK Owen......... what would you change so to sort things............. in fairness to the corkies mickmack, he has a point there. they have three matches on this weekend. in all differnt venues or times. I dont see why the tyrone - Meath game couldnt be with the kilkenny wexford game and Cork have their day with the minors, footballers and hurlers playing in Corke Park on Sunday. some people will go to all games and they should be accommodated. My memory might be slipping at this stage but was there not a hurling match in Croke Park last yeat before we played Cork, and before the Laois Mayo game.
