Personally I think it's a great idea, although I hope it doesn't affect his performance. Did South Kerry nominate him or did JOC choose him?

Is this true? Never heard. Might give him the lift he needs. Could be a great move to show him just how important he is.

If South Kerry nominated him as Captain (presumably on the basis the Crokes were beaten finalists last year) then fair play to them.
At the same time Im sure that if Kerry progress and Declan comes back to form Gooch will happily hand the captaincy back to him.
Well done South Kerry and good luck to the Gooch.

might well be the triger that the gooch needs to get back into the grove, that and having the distraction of a big man at fullforward beside him to keep the full back line busy.

Would have preferred to see The Pony captain (pure inspiration) but it could be the spurt the Gooch needs.

I don't think they picked the captain based on who would be the best captain or to give the Gooch a boost.
I think that South Kerry might have given it to the country runners up.
Thats what happened a few years ago when Strand Road won. The following year they had no players on the team so they nominated Mike McCarthy from the losing finalists Kilccummin

Personally I think it's a great idea, although I hope it doesn't affect his performance. I hope it affect him in a positive way. By the Gooch's standards his shooting and confidence has been well below par!!! I think the captaincy will give him the focus he needs!!!

I can't really see my 62 year old father who refuses to wear kerry colours at a game (even though he goes to every game) singing:
'just like a Super Cooper ...' to the strains of Abba up on the terrace in the stadium on Saturday.
We will leave it to you Aine!!!

I tend to side with the point of view that Gooch is captain due to circumstance rather than any great tactical move. Having said that if Jact et al didn't believe he could handle it they would've done something about it. Lets call it a convenient coincidence.

I totally agree, and the fact it circumstance rather than tactical will take some of the pressure off the Gooch too!

Longford won't go down without at least a fight.
