Wouldnt Tommy be better off kicking the ball "around the corner" like he was used to in GAA that trying to kick the egg head on.........
I would love to see him back in the Kerry colours but I would like to see him do well there too.
Mutually exclusive ....I suppose.

Fair enough but comparing the 1970s when Moran went to United and current day professional climate is a waste of time. The money that is involved in all professional sports nowadays is in a different universe to back then.
All I'm saying is that unless Tommy gets released by St Kilda out of his contract I would see no chance of him being allowed play in August or September for us this year. After all the money that they invested in training him for the last 7 or 8 months why would they take the risk of him breaking or tearing something playing back here.
I hope I'm wrong but i dont think we should be even thinking about it

Saw this on St. Kilda website today Tommy Walsh elevated 1:53 PM Fri 27 August, 2010 The Saints are pleased to announce that International Rookie, Tommy Walsh, has now been elevated to the Club’s primary list. Tommy will be replacing Jesse Smith, who was added to the Long Term Injury List at the end of June earlier this year. Since arriving at the Club at the start of this season from Gaelic Football side Kerry, Tommy has shown great determination in adapting to the game of AFL. He has played for St Kilda’s VFL affiliate side, Sandringham, in all of their 18 senior matches this year being named in the Zebra’s best on seven occasions. Playing most of the season in defence, Tommy also made a number of appearances in the forward line and kicked seven goals for the year. www.saints.com.au/season2010/news/newsarticle/tabid/5315/newsid/101290/default.aspx

It is true, so the future looks rosy for Tommy, fair play to him. He will be playing top notch stuff next season. Our loss, it looks like we will not see Tommy in a Kerry jersey for a long time, if ever. Good look to him,

fair play to him, he may be about to enter the big time there, certainly on the right path. Will possibly mean a life he could only dream of in Ireland. still heartbreaking to lose a player like him.

Tommy prepared to continue challenge
Young Irish recruit, Tommy Walsh, certainly brought a lot of attention with him when he arrived at the Saints for the 2010 season from Gaelic Championship winning side, Kerry.
Joining a number of new recruits at the Saints during the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft, Tommy knew it was going to be a tough year ahead, but came prepared for the challenge.
Speaking to saints.com.au earlier today, Tommy said; “It was a huge decision to come out here. I had so much to leave at home; my Gaelic football, college and family. But in the end I just through it was too good an opportunity to pass up.”
“I didn’t want to be looking back in 10 years time saying ‘I could have done this’ or ‘I should have done that.’ So I just decided to give it a go as then I’d know for sure.”
Originally coming out to meet with St Kilda late in 2008, Tommy’s visit was slightly too late for him to qualify for the 2008 AFL Draft, but looking back he was glad to have had the extra year to make his decision to move to Australia.
“I came to the Club in December 2008 just to see what it was like and I was offered a contract then, but I missed the deadline of the Draft. So I went back home for another year.”
“I was better off doing it that way anyway as I didn’t rush into anything and I was able to talk to everyone I needed to before making my decision.” Tommy added; “plus we also won the Gaelic Football Championship last year, which was a bonus.”
In addition to contributing to his home team’s success in the Gaelic Athletic Association, Tommy was also able get some expert advice from Kerry teammate and Sydney Swans player, Tadhg Kennelly, on the advantages of making the transition to AFL.
“I spoke to Tadhg a bit during the year, just quietly, to see what he thought and to see what he went through, as I knew he’d gone through everything that I was about to face. He never persuaded me either way but gave me some really good advice throughout the year.”
Unlike his teammates, with many growing up with an AFL football in their arms, Tommy has had to learn the skills of the sport from the beginning. Clearly not an easy task, his determination and large physique has proved to be a major asset to him throughout the year.
“I’ve done a lot of work getting to know the skills and the knowledge, which hopefully next year will allow me to take it to the next level.”
“I still do a fair bit of one-on-one work before and after training with the coaches. Everyone else has had so much of a head start on me so I am just really trying to catch up.”
With Gaelic Football a non professional sport in Ireland, Tommy was only required to train approximately three times per week at Kerry, which he fitted around his studies in Construction Management that he continues to do via correspondence.
With such a change in routine, it was the fitness element that Tommy said he struggled with the most during the preseason.
“I’d never done any of the running training as much as I have done here so that was tough and took me 3-4 weeks to really get used to it, although I am probably still getting used to it now,” he joked. “Getting to the level (of fitness) that I needed to be at was really tough.”
“My body has held up pretty well though, which has definitely been good. The coaches were worried with how I would cope with all the training and games but I’ve gotten through everything and don’t think I have missed a training session all year.”
Starting off the year in the seniors for St Kilda’s VFL affiliate team, Sandringham Zebras, Tommy has held his spot during the 18 rounds and has shown strong development throughout the year playing down back with glimpses up forward.
“I’ve played most of my games down back so I feel comfortable down there. But like most people I also do like playing forward and kicking some goals.”
“I’d never been a defender before I came here. At the start I didn’t really like it but as the games went on I started to feel more comfortable down there.”
Remembering his first game for Sandringham, Tommy joked; “It was very very long. I remember sitting at half time and thinking that if I was at home the game would be over.”
With the VFL season now over for the Zebras, Tommy will continue to train at the Club before going home during the off season break. But there will be no rest for the Irishman who is already looking ahead to having another solid pre-season to prepare for 2011.
“I’m just looking to take a step towards to the next level now. I want to come back and train hard and try and improve as much as I can. I’m not really looking past the pre-season at the moment, so I just need to come back and work as hard as I can then.”

Walsh set to make debut for St Kilda Tuesday, 8 February 2011 13:24 Former Kerry star Tommy Walsh is finally set to make his Australian Rules debut for St Kilda in the pre-season NAB Cup. The former Young Footballer of the Year moved to the Melbourne club following Kerry's All-Ireland win in 2009, and spent last season learning the ropes at Sandringham, St Kilda's junior club, in the Victorian Football League. St Kilda coach Ross Lyon said on the club's website that he was hoping to use Walsh in several roles during the upcoming NAB Cup matches with Essendon and Brisbane, and that the Tralee man has exceeded expectations since moving to the club. 'He will play at full-back, in the ruck (midfield) and forward. He is a key position player. He might not like hearing he's going into the ruck but it's an opportunity for him,' Lyon said. 'He came fourth or fifth in the Sandringham best and fairest last season. It's a pretty high standard and to deliver on that has exceeded everyone's expectation.' www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/championship/2011/0208/walsht.htmlWouldn't he sort out our problems at midfield if he came back!

AFL agent Nixon denies affair with teen at centre of scandal By John Fogarty Saturday, February 19, 2011 AUSTRALIAN RULES agent Ricky Nixon’s career is in jeopardy after yesterday he admitted to inappropriate dealing with a teenage girl at the centre of an AFL sex scandal. Nixon, who represents Kerry’s Tommy Walsh, told Melbourne newspaper the Herald Sun that he had been in the girl’s hotel room but denied any further involvement, despite her claims to the contrary. "In hindsight my dealings with this girl were inappropriate and I regret them," he told the newspaper. "I won’t be seeing her again." Married Nixon (47) said he had taken alcohol to the girl’s room, where she was staying at the expense of the St Kilda Football Club. The girl was involved in a major controversy this year when she released naked photographs of St Kilda players on an end-of-season-trip, which included Nixon’s star client, Nick Riewoldt. Nixon, who has described himself as "The Child Catcher" in regards to the disdain shown for his recruitment of young players in Ireland, admitted he had been to her hotel three times, including on Valentine’s Day last Monday. He spoke of his regret and vowed not to see her again. The girl has claimed their relationship had developed into an affair. Two years ago, Nixon was fined $1,250 (€927) and also had his driving licence suspended for 10 months for crashing his car into a tram in Melbourne and recording a blood-alcohol reading twice the legal limit. The news is the latest body-blow for Nixon’s career as he has been told by AFL clubs they are no longer as interested in recruiting young Gaelic footballers. Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions are reportedly set to sack troubled footballer Brendan Fevola within the next few days. In 2006, Fevola was infamously sent home from Australia’s international rules trip to Ireland after assaulting a barman while in Galway. Fevola was arrested on New Year’s Day in Brisbane on charges of public nuisance and obstructing police. This appeared in the printed version of the Irish Examiner Saturday, February 19, 2011 Read more: www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/afl-agent-nixon-denies-affair-with-teen-at-centre-of-scandal-145810.html#ixzz1EPGRkh9u

Tommy Walsh made his senior debut for Aussie Rules side St Kilda on Friday.
Ahead of the new season, Walsh made his first senior appearance for the Saints in the annual pre-season NAB Cup.
The 2009 All-Ireland winner played in both short-form games as St Kilda defeated Brisbane Lions before drawing with Essendon.
Walsh spent last season learning the ropes at Sandringham, St Kilda's junior club, in the Victorian Football League.

I was reading an interesting article recently by someone who played aussie rules.....he is an aussie himself........he felt that that Tommy Walsh wont make it to the top in Aussue rules in the way Tadhg did.
The reason startled me. I had assumed that the aussies look for big fielders etc.
No.
They look for the guy with the quickest hands who can grab a ball that is bouncing awkardly and lay it off in the blink of an eye. Tadhg can do that. He didnt think Tommy can do it in the way Tadhg can.

Good fielders, split decisions, fast placed kicks, etc. People that are good on the dirty ball and have a huge work ethic. Galvin would have been good at it. Tommy is a very good, accurate kicker which makes him do well in Aussie rules but he would play in midfield in Aussie rules meaning he needs to go for the quick ball indeed and then in a split second should play it to one of the forwards. I'm not sure if he can live with that and not go for points himself.

Walsh eyes Kennelly battle Tommy Walsh and Tadhg Kennelly in action for Kerry in 2009 24 February 2011
St Kilda young gun Tommy Walsh hopes to come face to face with his former Kerry teammate Tadhg Kennelly in the AFL this year.
Walsh made his senior debut for St Kilda in the pre-season NAB Cup last weekend and will be hoping to make an impact when the AFL gets under way at the end of March.
And he is already looking forward to August and a possible clash with Kennelly when the Saints meet the Swans at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
He said, "It would be a great experience to play against Tadhg. I'd say there'd be a few texts before that game and we wouldn't be holding back from one another on the field.
"It's just like playing with Kerry and then going back to play with your club. You play against your friends but for that hour you put friendship aside.
"That's why I came out here, to play senior AFL games. Friday was just a stepping stone, there's a long way to go yet."
