Good highlights. The commentators seem to have been well impressed by him anyway.

Troubled Nixon goes into rehab By Joe Callaghan, Melbourne Tuesday, March 08, 2011 THE teenage sex scandal that has engulfed Ricky Nixon in recent weeks appeared to finally take its toll yesterday when the embattled agent relented and stood down from his role at the helm of his firm and entered rehab for treatment for a "substance abuse problem". Nixon returned to Melbourne on Sunday after two weeks in Ireland and London, when he had fled the media storm caused by a 17-year-old schoolgirl who alleged Nixon had a sexual affair with her and had taken cocaine with her. The girl had previously been at the centre of a major media furore when she published naked pictures of three of the biggest stars in the AFL online. Nixon represented all three, one of whom, Sam Gilbert, had dated the girl when she was just 16. The girl’s allegations have triggered both police and AFL investigations against Nixon, who could potentially lose his licence as a certified agent in Australia, an outcome which would undoubtedly bring an end to his role in bringing some of the brightest GAA talents Down Under for a tilt at a professional career in the AFL. As it is though, Nixon has opted to temporarily at least, step aside from day-to-day operations at Flying Start. "I have returned to Australia having spent the last two weeks overseas, where I had the opportunity to seek help for my personal issues," he said. "With the understanding and support of family and close friends, I have decided I will go to a rehabilitation clinic to seek treatment for a substance problem that has impacted on my life and my decision-making," Nixon said. "I’m lucky to have the support of my employees and the players that I manage and while I know this time has not been easy for them, I think it is important for both staff and players at Flying Start that I immediately relinquish all responsibilities and activities a player manager would normally undertake. I have full faith in the staff at Flying Start to operate as usual without my involvement." How an extended absence might affect some of Nixon’s Irish clients remains to be seen. However the agent has always been a strong vocal supporter of the likes of former Kerry star Tommy Walsh, now a teammate of Gilbert’s at St Kilda, as well as Jamie O’Reilly at Richmond, Zach Tuohy with Carlton and Brisbane’s former Antrim star Niall McKeever. With the 2011 AFL season just a fortnight away, all four, as well as Nixon, look to be heading for uncertain times. I'm also sick to death of people trying to escape their due punishments and also grab the sympathy vote by the use of one very current and overused word ..... REHAB What the F*** is that all about ... people are so gullible it makes me sick I might need a session in rahab myself

www.sportsnewsireland.com/gaa/16009/Tom Walsh played reserves for St Kilda and improved as the game progressed. Will find it difficult to notch a senior game this year given the type of player he is and the amount of similar players that are on the St Kilda list.

Since arriving at the Saints from County Kerry and Kerins O’Rahillys in Ireland, Tommy has been developing his AFL skills with St Kilda’s VFL affiliate team the Sandringham Zebras. Playing mostly in defence, Walsh finished in the top ten of Sandringham’s Best and Fairest in 2010 and has continued to improve over the summer and into Season 2011. Named as an emergency for St Kilda’s Round 10 clash against Fremantle at Patersons Stadium tomorrow afternoon, Walsh is replacing Vice Captain Lenny Hayes, who has been placed on the Long Term Injury List after injuring his knee in St Kilda’s Round 2 match against Richmond. for saints.com.au

From Examiners sports desk blog:
KERRY's Tommy Walsh is on the verge of making his long awaited AFL debut for St Kilda this weekend, as his club fight to keep their title aspirations alive in a must win clash against the Western Bulldogs at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
St. Kilda head coach Ross Lyon has hinted that Walsh may debut on Friday night (Australian time) against the struggling Doggies, as the Saints appear to be in drastic need of freshening up their ranks after such a dismal start to their campaign.
Lyon suggested that Walsh was being 'seriously talked about' in terms of selection. He added: “We're looking for some support in the back half and in the forward half and maybe a mobile ruck. That's something we're looking at, but it's not odds-on.”
St Kilda have lost the last two Grand Finals to Geelong and Collingwood, respectively, but have struggled badly this year, with only one win being obtained from their opening seven matches, and they face a struggle to secure one of the top eight play-off places on offer at season’s end.
The former Kerins O’Rahilly’s clubman was an unused emergency substitute last weekend against champions Collingwood, as his impressive form for St Kilda’s feeder club Sandringham has put him in line for his debut, albeit in a defensive role.
The 2008 young footballer of the year last week matched up against the infamous former Carlton Blue forward Brendan Fevola of the Casey Scorpions in the VFL, and reportedly more than held his own in a stopping role that would be unfamiliar to Kerry fans.
A debut for Walsh would come just a week after Laois’ Zach Tuohy made his bow at this level for the Carlton Blues, alongside Setanta Ó hAilpin. With Tadhg Kennelly continuing to be a key figure at the Sydney Swans and with Mayo’s Pierce Hanley having an extremely impressive campaign at struggling Brisbane the Irish representation is set to sore, and may do so again should the continuing rumours regarding Martin Clarke’s potential return to Collingwood at the end of the year be true.
Meanwhile a number of Irish AFL fringe players are being lined-up to play for their country in an Australian Rules Tournament.
The International Cup in Australia is primarily for Aussie Rules players based in Ireland - but with the trip being self-funded - the selectors have turned to Irish talent already Down Under to shore up the team. The Irish squad will feature former North Melbourne rookie Conor Meredith, while selectors are also keen to secure the services of ex-Carlton big man Aisake O’hAilpin. Players in the West Australian Football League and the Northern Territory AFL have also already shown an interest. The only rule is that the players must have resided in Ireland for a large portion of their life, particularly between the ages of 10-16.
“We were struggling back home with the numbers because it is all self-funded to get here, so we basically figured that we will bring half the team over and find the rest from the Irish backpackers and permanent residents who are out here,” team manager Paul Ryan said. Newly appointed Moorabbin coach Brian Stynes, brother of Jim, will also be involved with the team.

Tommy's not playing this weekend either, he's an emergency sub again. Been talking to a few lads in the loop down there and they reckon he's a bit off AFL standard yet..not being helped by being played all over the shop, mainly at the back which he is finding tough going in the marking stakes especially. He'll probably get a game or 2 this season at some stage to test him alright though. Highlights of last weekends game in VFL where Tommy did very well at full back apparently!

It sounds like Tommy has a way to go yet to establish himself. Other players have made a far quicker impact.

Yeah but they haven't kept up the pace after that. Remember it took Tadhg a few years before he got a game so Tommy is doing well for only his second year out there.

Tommy must be 23 now. Tadhg was 18 when he went out there and was established by the time he was 20/21. I would have thought also that in terms of the physical side of things Tommy would not have as much to do as others due to his natural size and strength. He can still carve out a career for himself but it could be more along the lines of what Setanta has done rather than Tadhg. The question is would this be enough for Tommy to stay in Oz?

Apparently its lightning fast reflexes that are mainly required in that code. Size and strength are important but you wont make it with that alone.
Tommy is probably not that suited to the game.

Setanta has done well but if he had stayed around in Ireland he would probably just be as well off. I can understand why he stayed in Australia though.

Thanks Shannonsider - He scored 2 goals !! I thought he was supposed to be playing backs or does their game allow for backs scoring (dont know too much about the makeup of it). I'd like to see him doing well - He looks ready made for it !! If he is playing, is there any way that we could see the game or at least clips of his involvement ?

They bought him as a forward Dermot, thats their plan for him, but its good for development to play guys at the back and they get more touches, kicking practice that way...However last weekend he was played at ruck (basically a roving midfielder) and got forward to good effect apparently, although the team were shocking overall. Word from down under is that he's more than likely going to debut this weekend against Geelong (one of the top sides) from the bench at least...Interestingly Zac Tuohy from Laois scored his 1st AFL goal last week in his 2nd game for Carlton. Kerryfan, I put that video up last week, see above.
