For the love of God I hope Star doesnt get offered some contract by some big club alla Kennelly. I'd go as far as saying I hope he takes a break and misses the Ireland V Aussie series for fear he'll get a bad injury. That goes for the Gooch too...The others are big and bold enough but then again I wouldnt mind seeing all the Kerry players miss it!

I'd be afraid about him getting injured as well. Star isn't the bulkiest guy in the world. Still, his fielding would be a great asset to the team. . .get the hands on the ball - play stops!

Was thinking about that at the weekend i wouldn't be surprised if the Aussies came a sniffing...as for being too old you seem to be forgetting about Sean Cavanagh last year.

Boylan wants to call him up for the International Rules. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. I loved watching Jack O'Shea against fellas his own size and fellow amateurs but it's a different story now against a crowd of psychopaths who face no real recriminations from their actions. If Donaghy is willing to reject basketball scholarships which is a sport he loves almost as much as Gaelic Football, I doubt he'll accept offers from a sport he has little interest in.

I can't see Kieran taking the Aussie route. I reckon he's too much of a home bird and wouldn't be happy over there and as someone already pointed out why would he turn down a basketball scholarship a few years back and now decide to go off and play Aussie Rules. Won't happen. I hope!

I pray none of the kerry boys play that tripe this year. It is my pet hate. Someone is going to get very badly hurt very soon.

Although it was a proud day for Kerry when Seamus Moynihan won the player of the tournament award.

Dunno, Corcoran may not have come back and he saved their bacon a lot of the time. You could say the same about us if we had Tadgh.

The fewer Kerry players on that team the better. Game is going nowhere. All I have to look forward to now is a GAA free Autumn. I am looking forward to the early morning starts to drive from Dublin to Kerry for the league games already.

www.unison.ie/sportsdesk/stories.php3?ca=13&si=1691175KIERAN DONAGHY'S meteoric rise through the Gaelic football ranks in a stellar first senior season will continue with a call-up to the International Rules Panel within the next week. Ireland manager Seán Boylan admitted yesterday that he would like to have the towering Kerryman in his squad. Donaghy's brilliant fielding ability would be a massive asset when the hard-hitting Australians arrive next month. Boylan acknowledged yesterday that the towering young Kerryman would be an automatic choice on any international manager's wish-list from last weekend's finalists. "We will have to see how Kieran is first, he's reported to have had a back injury last week so obviously we don't want to rush him into anything," said Boylan. "We'll give it a few days before contacting any of the Kerry and Mayo players," Boylan stressed. The fact that the Coca-Cola Rules Series has been moved back this year is actually in Boylan's favour because if the GAA had stuck to their original 2006 calendar, Kerry dual star Donaghy would have been caught in a tug of loyalties between GAA and his other sporting passion: basketball. A National Superleague and Cup winner with Tralee Tigers in 2005 when he was Irish Player of the Year, Donaghy largely quit NBL basketball this year to concentrate solely on gaelic football. However, even before the All-Ireland final, it's understood he had told basketball friends that he intended resuming his hard-court career in earnest this winter and hoped to try to combine both sports, as Mayo midfielder Ronan McGarrity did last winter.

It took those Australians long enough to figure out that the best way to beat a bunch of mobile accurate shooting GAA players is to send on a team of stronger, mobile accurate shooting AFL players. Last year was probably the death knell, less for the violence and more for the change in Australian selection whereby the coach can pick his team from the whole AFL and not be restricted to picking from the Australians version of the All-Stars.

Kerry players should keep away from the Aussie rules team, (injuries, fatigue etc) it is of no benefit to them. They should finish out what ever club football they have, get plenty of rest and then concentrate on retaining SAM. I think rest is essential at this stage rather than getting the crap kicked out of you by 6.6 18 stone professional

ya homer anyone of those players would walk onto it . but as ky50 said they should stay away from it. its crazy sport if you ask me. its a sport where the players get very little protection from the referee and these lads are seriously physical boys. i watched sean cavanagh last time and hes a big physical player and he struggled to get to grips with these guys. the type a challenges that go in could end a players carrer and i just dont like that.

I think the whole thing is a big pile of crap to be honest. It should have been scrapped after last year. Maybe it should be played every 4 years or something like that to keep the interest levels a little higher.
