In fairness to Jack he has gone for an attack minded Kerry team mindful of course how defensive and negative Clare will set up under Fitzgerald Costello so don’t expect an open game like last year. Murphy is selected for his superior kick out as ryan struggled in this area the last day.Kerry have to be patient not get frustrated as they navigate their way around the parked buses .clare will have no interest in winning the game this is purely about damage limitation for them so the management can say they did better than last year .clare target is the qualifiers where they will play Cork in Ennis in round 1 They we’re poor in the game v down which was their first acid test in the league and failed to get promoted but in fairness the Munster draw has been kind to them and they will know cork could be vulnerable in Ennis . Ah stop.... I would not say Ryan is "dropped" due to struggling. more giving lads a game in an easy environment, I don't think anyone here, even the Crokes diehards, will expect to see Murphy between the sticks in the All Ireland series.

I would take Shane Ryan over almost anyone in the country let alone Kerry.

Ah stop you living down here in the Iveragh peninsula we try and be objective in our analysis and yes our man Graham is carrying a knock and yes agree that of course Ryan is one of the best keepers in the country and is superior to Murphy in most areas but the one kink he has is the delay in getting his kick outs away and Dublin dismantled him in the league this is well known within the Kerry set up and Murphy is fractionally faster and more accurate in this dept .Jack will explore every minute detail forensically and if a faster kickout and not being forced going long to Fenton and our inferior midfield as happened in the league gives Kerry a slight edge jack will give it serious consideration to try and get an edge and this outing is just a dry run and trying out new kickout strategies as jack does not do token run outs in championship and this is coming from a fellow south Kerry man.But I do agree when it comes to the business end Ryan of course is no 1 but hats off to jack for trying out new things

That is a confusing selection to say the very least. We all know they are the best players in the county but it does not look like a team. If they play as selected there is no balance to it. Take defence, on the right we have 2 very similar players both lacking aerial power, and on the left 2 players who love to go forward - hopefully not at the same time. As the season is going on there seems to be no progress. We have to be thinking of an All-Ireland final and even though the Munster Champions don't have the most difficult of groups, a set team should now be firming up for the knockout stages. The only line that would start a final is midfield.
I can't see why we should be clapping Jack in the back for trying new things. 13 of that team have literally been around for years and are still being selected all over the place. The other 2, Joe and Cillian are obvious players for the positions they are in, no genius required.
Considering the way Mark Fitzgerald has gone about his business so far this year I expect him to ask serious questions of that team. Clare will put up a dogged fight but Kerry, calling on the bench to put out the fire, to get an unflattering win.

Trending towards last years team with the noted exceptions, Graham will definitely be back on team if injury allows, MF will be as is, forward line has one open place and maybe 2, any number of players could occupy them slots over the coming months, the infirm guys will stand out ahead of semi finals.
Best of luck to all involved this weekend, hope Clare get a performance, Mark Fitzgerald will know the kerry players well, but hard to see them beating the 13 handicap.

As regards to comments on the team selection I think it's a good and brave selection. We have to have a panel of players who we can trust on the day no matter what opposition. No point in complaining in a couple of months time that we never gave the panel a chance. No offence to Clare but this is the day to do it.

Getting the ferry back, if 32 years repeats itself hopefully some Russian sub commander lurking in the Shannon Estuary will have the good grace to test the torpedoes on the boat

If Shane Ryan is injured he should nt be named on panel. If not its a strange selection but maybe its rewarding Murphy for his patience and gives him the chance of winning a Munster medal on field of play. he got stitches from a collision at training from what I heard

Im not being smart but besides the two crokes boys I cant see any big change and certainly the panel are not being utilised properly. In fact if Shane Ryan is nt. Injured then the keeper selection is wrong. My faith in the management lessens with every game. I don't think you were ever in favour of Jack this time around...even when he won. We need to explore all our options and I think that he's doing that. You can only dance with the girls in the hall as they said in my day.

On this subject, what did we think of the fielding by our u20 keeper vs Cork. Ok he erred with a ball blatantly going wide but that's a learning thing - you can't teach the fielding and which he has - was it as good as I think?

A big game today up in Cusack Park for a number of reasons.
Need to see a solid defensive structure.. Absolutely no goal chances or running through the middle unchecked.
Also- Need to see a few lads being given their chance stand up and be counted. Having a reliable squad and players to call on when need be is going to be super important over the next few months.
Brosnan, Spillane when he comes on and Murphy in goal come to mind on this front.
Another huge area of interest will be watching with hope that DC gets back in the groove inside in the full forward line. An All Ireland will be a lot more within range with Clifford back to or even playing better than his best football to date and hopefully we see the beginning of that kind of form today!

Winning nothing playing like that I am afraid. Surprised they didn't kick on more lack of goal creation. Dubs win Sam at a canter

Munster championship retained, after two average performances to be honest, very laborious in attack.
Alarming stat: Waterford, Clare, Tipperary and cork scored a goal in the Munster championship this year, Limerick and Kerry did not

Midfield did well enough. Again you would be hoping Kerry would improve just unsure where they are ? Maybe they are holding back. But need to improve even against Monaghan

Firstly credit to Clare who played very well.
Is there a future Kerry manager on the line today purely on the approach he went with.
Positive and courageous and not one bit of fear.
As for Kerry,
More of the same,
We are not firing at all, no goals against a division 3 side.
We have regressed and unless we are timing our run in some form of rope a dope we are not contenders.

Best of luck to Mark Fitzgerald the next day, he was a very intelligent forward, I would have marked him regularly 15/20 years ago. Always very dangerous inside finisher. Always thought goal first. Unlucky with serious injuries. Will be interested to see how they get on against Kerry. Would be a brilliant forwards coach anyway. If things go well for him I could see him link up with Kerry in the future. Thought Clare were exceptional. Very young player profile. Give them a few more years and they will have a strong team again.

Sleep walking into a rude awakening later this summer. Nothing more to say.
Great effort by Clare, cant count themselves unlucky really. A bit more composure in front of goal and they would have surpassed 1992 achievement.

Kerry were always comfortable. Ref gave a lengthy advantage before Clare goal. Otherwise game was well over. To listen to Rte commentary anyone would think Clare had won. Kerry always in a no win situation. Game won. Move on. No need for criticism at this stage. Long Summer ahead.

Again job done - move on.
Negatives - our defence is exposed to runners when our midfield don't track and put in a shift. Known problem that we don't seem to have a solution to and will cost us down the road. - David's radar is off and he missed to the left three times today, hopefully something he can rectify. - no goal against a supposed low ranked team, we did create chances however
Positives - we won and have confirmed group 4 as our group - good spread of scorers - no injuries (assuming GW is ok)
Most issues can be worked on bar the glaring one of a weak midfield - need a eureka moment to find a solution to this

The reality of todays game was how much Kerry would win by, the margin would be dictated by Kerry’s attitude the game, that will be a question for Jack and the team.
Clare were valiant but never winning the game, hats off to their effort, contributed to some of Kerry’s poor performers.
On to the group stages, nothing to get too excited about in fairness, but got to play what’s in front of you.
