It's the same ankle as the injury a few minutes later. That's the most disappointing aspect as it would have weakened the ankle if not already injured it leading to the big injury when landing on it.

Hard to know what could have motivated Heneghan to do that deliberately. It's unlikely that there's any history there and he had only just come on. At the same time, I'd imagine that if you stood on someone accidentally, you would stumble on contact. There didn't seem to be any wobble here, which suggests he was braced for it. Lee Keegan, who always comes across as a fair analyst, was in no doubt anyway. www.rte.ie/sport/football/2024/0320/1438921-relegation-to-division-2-far-from-the-end-of-the-world/"They may be without Cathal Henaghan now for a while following the incident with Jason Foley, as they should be. It was a nasty incident. I'm not sure where you're head would need to be at, to stamp on someone immediately after scoring a goal."

I don't think whether or not it was the same ankle should have had a bearing on the punishment.
In any case, a weakening of one part of the body can quickly lead to an injury of a different but related part of the body.

Peter Crowley got 8 weeks for spraying a water bottle in 2019 if I'm not mistaken. Yet you can injure a fellow player in the most cowardly way and get a 1 game ban. He did and was pure silly. However he was injured anyway so the ban did nt affect him one iota.Denis Bastick got 4 weeks the Donaghy stamp but that was blatant as he walked over to stamp on Donaghy s foot behind the goal on Davin end.I was in the Davin that day and it was 100% on purpose. The Heneghan one is debatable but as a few of us have posted already Heneghan knows himself. I'm not directing this at you Mick but this argument that only the Heneghan knows himself is irrelevant. You could use that argument for every defense if that was the case. Like in rugby you go on the video evidence and past record etc. The video is conclusive in my eyes. Eitherway it's time now to move on.

Hmmm - retribution of sorts - draw with Galway or lose (in a dead rubber anyway) ensures Roscommon and Mr H are plying their trade in D2 next year.
Time for the Cliffords, SOS and a few others to get a week off before heading to Portugal training camp methinks.

That is no punishment, surely JOC has a duty of care to his player and be more vocal on this decision.

Yet you can injure a fellow player in the most cowardly way and get a 1 game ban. i know a lad who got 12 months for spraying a waterbottle at a ref - i was right beside him and he didnt do it but the ban was handed out (subsequently appealed and reduced to 2 months). great to protect refs but if you are handing out large bans for notebooks and waterbottles, then the same standards should be applied to players attacking others.
