Maybe I'm naive but I just can't believe that last night was a true reflection the of what we have. Whether it's down to hard training or whatever, I don't know. But I'd still be confident enough that if/when we play them with something serious on the table we'd give it a right go. I know last night was somewhat embarrassing, and to go down the road of taking on Dublin unprepared is high risk and could backfire badly but I just think what happened on the field was not all we're really about. Hope you re right John but while we can fix and remedy much I think we really in trouble midfield.Maybe Jack B will come back.Look I know Fenton is one of the all time greats but we still poor mf.Maybe we have to be bold and try Cillian Burke there 100% re Cillian Burke. Could see this fast tracked. Thought in fact that he might have played him on Fenton last night, just to see how it goes.

Ray Boyne, who does GAA Stats had a very telling stat from last night.
72 mins gone.
Tackle, press and block count.
Dublin 103.
Kerry 41.
Apart From everything else that went wrong last night, the most disappointing thing was that we were outworked, plain and simple. That should not be acceptable, league or not.

A very tough night at headquarters . We were absolutely blown apart but better last night than mid summer.
It’s impossible from the outside to know why we played so badly last night. We have no clue re training methods & Strategy tried out.
I’m hoping it’s the above otherwise we are cooked.
As bad a performance as it was we got to within 3 points midway through the second half which gives me hope. On another night we could have scored possibly another goal or two from chances created. We won’t keep missing these chances guaranteed.
Dylan Casey has a lot of good qualities but sadly isn’t a corner back at the required standard. Dara Moynihan works tirelessly but no end product.
Special mention for Graham O’Sullivan & Cillian Burke last night. Our best two players.
Dublin’s trio of B.Fenton, C.Kilkenny & C.O’Callaghan were simply outstanding last night.
If you give top players the amount of time space we afforded them then you will be punished as we were.
Re a few mentioning already but David Clifford & Seanie O’Shea need to channel their aggression other ways as very soon it will cost us a Red card and a potential huge game.
Another point from last night. Conor Lane & he’s team of officials. C.Kilkenny accidentally elbowed G.O’Sullivan but it was a strong elbow which connected flush on Grahams chin and knocked him to the ground yet no umpire or linesman saw it. The umpires correctly saw the penalty decision and alerted the referee to the mistake.
Rant over lol

The board was awful quite for the most part in the build-up to this game, and in truth, I think realistically folks know full well beating Dublin any day in their own house is a rare enough occurrence. One can bluster all they want on boards but at the end of the day there is reality, and the facts don’t lie. Most Kerry supporters I spoke with off boards were not overly-confident of winning last night, some thought maybe a draw, but most were just hoping for a seriously competitive performance and some green shoots. The Kerry team last night had plenty seasoned veterans so the fact they were so meek is worrying.
Look, we don’t have a dynastic Kerry team on our hands and that’s quite clear. It took some hard years and hard work to finally win an All-Ireland in 2022, and there are no certainties now with plenty competition around and the Dubs clearly regenerated and only going to get stronger.
Kerry absolutely can be more competitive but last night the Dubs were clearly intent on giving us a lesson in the fundamentals. There is not one midfielder in Kerry better than Brian Fenton, and that is a hard nosed fact. Dublin are excellent at setting up the physical mismatches and the support running off the ball is something else. As an example, Dublin at one stage used the poor wholehearted Dara Moynihan like lighthouse beacon and mismatched on him. The sight of wee Dara trying to go up and field a ball against Brian Fenton was laughable, and just like Brian Howard going way up overhead of the same player time and time again last July - only one winner. I’ve no doubt Kerry can and will be more competitive but we have to be humble too as supporters and sometimes you just come up against a team that are better than you.

Monaghan and Mayo both beat Dublin . Kerry beat both .. Formlines on that basis means we should have enough to beat the Dubs but we end up getting a hiding by 10 points .
How to explain that ? Are we 10 points worst than the Dubs ? Last nights results says yes but on cold reflection not so has to be the answer . We did miss chances - David and Seanie in particular but these two should not be the scapegoats for last night . Remember last minute last weekend against Mayo in Tralee or last minute against Dubs in All Ireland semi in ‘ 22.
Both had a terrible night last night so can be excused . Methinks frustration mentally discomoded them . Seanie hitting the upright from a free in front of the goals and David missing kicks for points that he would normally convert with his eyes shut and for reasons that he could only explain rushing his shots and decision making . I pray the ghosts of last years final have not come back to haunt him . Certainly the jeering of the Dubs supporters seem to rattle him and that might well have been transmitted to Paudie .
But we did have chances and goal chances at that and if the advice of the Gooch to “ pass the ball into the net “ had been adhered to the beating last night would have been less . No excuses Dubs by far the better performers and even when we pulled back to a 4 point game they simply changed gears and coasted home .
So much food for thought now but thankfully it’s only the League and we have a chance to get back on the horse next weekend against Tyrone .
We don’t know what’s going on in training but Kerry were miles off the pace against the Dubs and as a previous poster alluded to “ not a glove was laid on them “ Our backs gave them plenty of room to lay the foundations of their win by kicking easy points in that first half . Startled earwigs came to mind ?
But come the latter stages of the Championship no doubt we’ll be in the melting pot - however the Dubs have our number and that psychological monkey on our backs has to be jettisoned in the course of any revival .

Is there any way we can inject pace into this team What is the precise role of our 15 Dara ? Being the spare forward could we not use the 15 to track a few of those loose runners through the middle Dara great workhorse not sure he has the pace for the Dubs in Croke Park Hard to get the pace up on a team if they don’t have it naturally Dublins kickouts we’re so fast last night that the TV cameras missed most of them entirely this is a simple fix for us but needs work Joe O Connor s second half was very good I thought it was harsh to take him off his defence part of his game might need work but delighted with him and refreshing to now have a scoring midfield Exactly what we’ve been looking for Dublin had to hastily remove O Conor’s opposite number after he got his second score Diarmaid is an enigma has the physique to be top midfielder Dublins kickouts avoided him last night but My concern about Diarmuid is his workrate Previously jack Barry done the defending now Joe is there and Diarmuid has to do his own heavy lifting I’d like to see Diarmuid work a lot harder

Currently rank us third in race for Sam. Derry and Dublin definitely ahead of us with both looking stronger than last year, nicely building squad depth etc.
We look worse than last year.
A Galway, Mayo, Tyrone and less likely Armagh could catch us on a bad day in the summer.
Still far too reliant on Seanie and David. Paudie will be fine. Cillian Burke looks to be a find but he's a first year starter. Don't think Dylan Geaney is suited to playing the middle third. Dara Moynihan gives his all but decision-making a weakness.
I think we need to explore midfield partnerships as we've weakened there significantly since Moran retired and obv Jack Barry gone to Oz. Heartbreaking to have lost the talent of Mark O'Connor for so long. Imagine Dublin with Fenton and Howard in Australia.
At the back, we probably will be ok there in the summer. It's been our strength over the last few years. However, teams are occupying Morley now and we've lost the way we used to defend the D.
I hope to see Brian O'Beaglaíoch back on the wing and Tom back in the corner when possible.
I also think Tom Sullivan needs to evaluate his attacking play as he now misses more efforts at scores than he gets.
Our kickout is a big worry and has been exposed vs. Derry and Dublin. It's all well and good keeping cards close to your chest on kickouts til the summer but others are prob doing the same and aren't struggling as much as we are. Need to practice what you plan on doing in game time as well.
If midfield Is weakened to the point where we are going short all the time on kickouts then I don't give us any chance in the summer playing a slow, long field.
Plenty to work on but we're definitely nowhere near favourites for the championship.

It looked like we were at the start of our season while Dublin were in the middle of theirs. We lacked the intensity you need to unsettle Dublin when they are playing well. Everything was that bit easier for Dublin as a result. Lots to work on, including a plan when the whole opposition team drop deep, but I wouldn't read too much into yesterday

I agree it's hard for any Kerry supporter to admit they were beaten by a better team and as we all should know, nothing is ever won on paper. Dublin are now the top dogs in football and yes, that’s a hard fact to accept for any Kerry supporter. However, I do understand that ranting on board might help some.

An awful day out yesterday. One of many since 2001 v Meath. Only bright spark was that there was a comeback of sorts in the 2nd half but that too fizzled out. Con O Callaghan and Fenton looked in super form and Kerry either failed to or were unable to address this. Hoping for a response next week in Killarney against a side who looked good yesterday against Mayo. If that response doesn't come then it's time to worry for Kerry and fasten the seatbelts for the Summer. Midfield is huge. When you lose both throw ins and fail to win stray balls at mf from a kickout, have only one or two good fielded balls there in the whole 70 mins. and allow their midfield to boss that area then you lose. Simple as! Anyway, lets throw our support behind Kerry now. If they win the next 3 games they could be in a league final v Derry. Onwards and upwards.

Remarkable how people can have different ones.

It is not the end of the world, far from it, but it does raise some questions. The plan was to stay out of the relegation zone and we are on track to do that.
Why do we have to go through this year after year - sending out teams in the league that are not match ready in the sense that they are in middle of a "block" of heavy training and are certain to under perform. It effects shooting most of all. Last week the Cliffords were interviewed. David used the phrase "snatching at shots", Paudie said "snap shots". Why is this not managed better? This also effects confidence. For the same reason it is unfair to name individual players as not playing well.
It was interesting to see how Dublin reacted when Kerry got their goal. They went up the field and kept possession as they used to, recycling from corner to wing and across the half forward line. It looked very Gavin-esque and may be a hint of what we will see in the summer.

Graham has also done very good man marking jobs in the past. We’d no defensive system in place last night, that has to be rectified. Compare our defensive set up last night to what we saw in 2022 and there’s no resemblance. I feel it was a case of the management saying it’s only the league we’ll go out and play football with little to no tactics but it backfired massively.

A comment on our management team.As many of you know I have reservations about Jack for a long time but was so happy to win Sam in 22 I stayed stchum for a while. Now I want to bring up Diarmuid Murphy and Micheal Quirke.Ive askes before how posters felt about them or their pedigree in coaching etc and I did nt get much response.I was told beforw Murphy was veru astute and when I asked the person to elaborate they said "sure he was seen arguing with Fitzmaurice on the sideline in 2015".Now even I can argue as can Donald Trump but that does nt make us astute. As for Micheal Quirke I know he did well with the Narries but they had serious talent and probably maybe underachieved and with Laois he was nt great .I used to enjoy reading his articles and thought they were excellent but I dont know much more.Genuine question does anyone know much about their coaching /seletor expertise? At the mo they not endearing themselves to me anyway. Anyone care to give a comment on Murphy or Quirke. Also as I dont see much club football at hone anymore are there any big midfielders worth looking at even from low ranking clubs.Years ago Micko would scour the county looking for prospects from low ranking clubs.Surley there are 1or 2players that have potential altho i know they d need extra training to get up to county speed. Why oh why did nt we use McGrath cup properly. I don’t think it’s a good thing at all that we have only 4 midfielders involved in the entire extended panel. It’d be fine if we had 4 established options but what we have is Diarmuid, Joe returning from a cruciate injury, Barry Dan who Jack clearly has no faith in and Sean O’Brien a young player who is a better wing back. I’m not saying there is a Fenton or Glass somewhere in the county who’s not on the panel but bring in a few fellas, work with them and see could they offer something. Mark Ryan, Cillian Trant and Mark O’Shea from Crokes are 3 very good club midfielders, have at least one around the panel anyway considering the state of our midfield options. Jack O’Connor isn’t good at finding players unless they’re very obvious. On Quirke and Murphy, Quirke has a load of experience including as an inter county manager himself. He is regarded as a good coach. Murphy has been a selector before and has some club management experience. I’d imagine Quirke plays a bigger role than Murphy taking some of the training alongside Tally while my impression is that Murphy just offers his thoughts occasionally in meetings.

I actually thought that Graham O’ Sullivan was excellent last night. The amount of runs he made to give Shane Ryan an option when nobody else was had to be seen to be believed. The space in front of our defence meant that they would be hung out to dry. The space and time that Dublin players had was like something you’d see in a challenge match. At least he tried to take the game to the opponents and gave Kilkenny plenty of it.
Around the middle is the biggest area of concern for me. Going long isn’t an option, it appears and if that isn’t addressed then we won’t be going too far.
Next weekend in Killarney should be very informative and we will be able to gauge where our levels of desire are at.

It's hard for any Kerry supporter to admit that on paper an opposition is simply better. On balance that Dublin team last night are not better on paper though. Pity we didn't play it on paper so😀 I agree with you though.
