Marys to win this out surely? Not that they are any great shakes but probably the best of a bad lot. Football in SK has declined greatly in the last few years, the county league positions dont lie. If Renard ever have notions about winning this then they have got the Marys at home in the first round and thats the time to get them. Portmagee seem to have gone way back since last years final. Dromid have lost a lot of players in the last year but might somehow find themselves back in a final, especially if they get 1 or 2 back for the championship as they always seem to do

Championship gets underway tomorrow at 3pm in Foilmore with the locals hosting Waterville. Tie of the round should be Renard at home to the Marys on Sunday at 2pm. Would give hesitant votes to Bally Foilmore and the town.

The Mary’s beat Renard by 2 points. Anyone on here who was at the match?
I saw that Brian Sheehan was listed in goal for the Mary’s. Maybe now is the time to try him in goal for Kerry!!!

who are Portmagee? I think they are now defunct but play with some other club? Skellig Rangers are Portmagee. You might be thinking if Valentia. They didn’t field for a couple of years so there players joined Dromod en masse

I think they are now defunct but play with some other club? Yes Portmagee are Skellig Rangers. You are thinking of Valentia, they were struggling for a good while so instead of disbanding they loaned a few players out and they ended up playing with Dromid for 2 years, about 6 or 7 made the move and 2 started last years sk final. Valentia are back on their own this year and like it was scripted drawn against Dromid in the opening round I didnt make it to either game at the weekend, parking at both isnt the easiest and i didnt fancy walking too far as the forecast was poor. Renard and Marys actually had a beautiful day for it, Bryan Sheehan seemed to control the game from goal and I dont think Renard had the gameplan to counteract his roaming out the field. Renard have had a decent team the last few years but are probably lacking the firepower to go on and make a dent in the sk championship. If you look at the more succesful teams of the last 10 years, or certainly the teams that contested the most finals, Marys, Dromid and Ballyfoilmore, they all had good forwards and players that could chip in with scores from midfield or half back. Renard dont have that unfortunately. Portmagee have been much the same. Id expect Dromid to come through the Valentia game on saturday. They usually get a few extra bodies in for championship and i wouldnt pay much attention to their county league performance. SneemDerrynane will be quietly confident of turning over Skellig rangers on sunday too, its out in Derrynane. Portmagee have lost a few to travels this year and its really hurt them especially the loss of the Keatings who were their main scoring threat

Dromid beat Valentia today 3-16 to 14 points, the scoreline doesn't reflect how tight the game was in reality, Valentia were competitive for a long time, the saying goals win games was true in this case.
Niall O'Se scored heavily for Dromid and Graham O'Sullivan was strong around the middle of the field, Donagh O'Sullivan showed well for ball, For Valentia Emmett Daly battled hard all day and carried the majority of Valentias scoring threat.
Sneem/Derrynane at home to Skellig rangers tomorrow in Sneem, a tight one to call, Skellig rangers marginal favourites.

Dromedary beat Bally/Foilmore by 2 points. Niall Shea scored a penalty in last minute according to Twitter. Anyone at it?

Dromid: 3-4(13) St Michael's Foilmore: 1-8(11)
It was a strange game, played in Caherciveen the pitch looked heavy and the grass was a bit long looking. Both teams went at it hard but the wind made scoring chances hard to come by. BF were playing with the wind in the 1st half and went in a point up at the break. Bernard Kelly the BF keeper kicked some lovely placed balls and was out the field more than he was in goal which was an unusual sight. A long high hopeful ball from about 50 yards out went over everyones head and into the Dromid goal to put BF a point up with time almost gone. Almost instantly Dromid went up and won a penalty which Niall Shea dispatched, his second of the game as he scored a pen in the 1st half. BallyFoilmore had one last attempt to get something but it came to nothing and the ref blew. It was probably a harsh result on BallyFoilmore as they played the better football, just couldnt score. However the future is bright for them as they have some exciting young players coming through.
I thought Dromid were very poor and certainly wont win a final based on that, their management made some odd decisions and for some reason left Niall Shea on his own up front marking about 4 defenders. You always got the feeling watching it that they had more in the tank. Niall Connor and Padraig Mangan had fine games. Probably wasnt an easy game to officiate but i thought the ref struggled. He got the 2 penalty calls correct but gave a Dromid player a very harsh black. The BallyFoilmore midfielder somehow escaped a second yellow for a very high around the neck challenge and the BF keeper Bernard Kelly took a puck to the back of the head that was a surefire red, everyone inside the grounds saw it but somehow the ref and his linemen missed it.
7 finals in a row for Dromid which is a remarkable achievement for a small rural club but they will need to seriously improve if they are to give St Marys a fright (No offence to SneemDerrynane) That other semi is on next week. Final is not for 3 weeks, thats enough time for the pitches to get wetter and drag the season out a bit longer for the players

Jimmy Musgrave Kerryman Today at 03:30 WALSH’S SUPERVALU SOUTH KERRY SFC SEMI-FINAL St. Mary's 1-12
Sneem/Derrynane 0-8
The second semi-final of the South Kerry Senior Football Championship saw St. Mary's reach their ninth final in ten years after a commanding seven-point win over Sneem/Derrynane in Reenard on Sunday afternoon where despite all the rain of the past weeks, underfoot conditions were perfect.
St Mary's, playing into the strong wind, made the much better start and had two white flags raised inside the first ten minutes courtesy of Darren Casey and Declan Keating both from play. In the early stages Sneem/Derrynane seemed happy to play keep ball and never showed much intent to try and penetrate their more illustrious opponent's rearguard.
St Mary's, when they were in possession, moved the ball forward much quicker and in their next attack seasoned campaigner Sean Cournane forced the ball over the goal line to put them 1-2 to no score ahead after twelve minutes. Another point from play by Conor O'Shea and two typical efforts from frees by Bryan Sheehan had the Town side ahead by eight heading into the half-time despite playing into a stiff crosswind.
In injury time of the first half Sneem/Derrynane veteran Ronan Hussey eventually put them on the scoresheet with two points, one from a free and the other a fine effort from play, to leave them trailing at the interval 1-5 to 0-2.
The combination's management would have not been too happy at the break because of the number of scores they left behind, kicking six wides and dropping another five short into Sheehan's hands in the St Mary's goal. St.Mary's on the other hand proved way more economical, scoring six times from eight attempts.
The second half began with Hussey raising another two white flags from frees on each side of another point from play by Ben O'Donoghue for St Mary's. By the eight minute St Mary's had moved seven points clear thanks to two more from play by Darren Casey and Sean Cournane.
At this stage of the game Kieran O'Driscoll and Darragh O'Sullivan, who were dominating for the Town side in midfield, started to become more defensive and were easily shutting down their opponents' attacks in the middle third.
A point from play by Jack Riney and another free from Hussey brought the deficit back to five before two more from play for the Mary's from Keating again and Anthony Cournane put St Marys ahead by seven entering the final ten minutes.
A point from play by the hard working Ian Galvin and another free from Hussey briefly closed the gap again only for another Sheehan free and one from play by Conor O'Shea had St. Mary's back in another final to face their great rivals of the past seven years Dromid Pearses.
The final is down for decision on Saturday, November 25 in Waterville.
