I have just retired from playing football and don't know where to start about becoming a referee. I never thought I would become one buut after retiring through injury last year i still have the urge to participate in GAA.
How do I find out more? How many games would you be expected to referee a week? Do people think it is rewarding? Is it worth all the abuse? How much do you get per game and travelling expenses? How long would it take to complete the courses required?
thanks in advance

Bart Moriarty is the Referee administrator in Kerry and is the man to talk to. If you contact the county board i am sure they will give you his contact details and i'm sure he'd be delighted to hear from you!

not sure if theyr ar courses on at the moment, but there will be at some stage in the future, they normally have them at the start of the year, maybe before the underage county league starts so that people can get a bit of practice before being thrown into minor/junior/senior games, though i have to say, from personal expereince, reffing underage games has been more troublesome than other games when parents on the sidelines get bull thick when little Johnny gets a boot...the pay/expenses differs from level and boards, though iwould say that €20 would be the norm for an average game, with it getting higher with the level...i like it anyway and have been reffing for 6 years, though i aint done it much over the past 2 due to exams/work etc
