Kerry got no scorable free once Johnny Cooper walked. Ah he did nt do us much harm really. We were lucky Tom Sullivan did nt get a red card too so he was fair to us there. Geaney s penalty should have been retaken but other than that I thought he did a pretty good job in 19 final.Kerry people were nt happy with his appointment over Peter Crowley not getting a free in late in 16 semi final but as Gough admitted afterwards he was unsighted and after watching it on telly afterwards he admitted it should have been a free. Not many refs would have the courage to admit their mistakes so he deserves credit. I am a massive fan of Gough but I don't think he should ref Dublin games. I have no issue with the 2016 game. We all make mistakes and I always say champion sides don't let a ref have a say in the result. However it is not enough that he is free of bias (as essentially I believe). He must be free of the perception of bias. I think it is an error to appoint him to Dublin games.

😂😂 I thought that was common knowledge I Donnell plays his football as a full forward but who knows He plays full forward at the moment with Whitehall but all up along he was fullback or centre back

Eoin O Donnell the Dublin hurling fullback who was drafted into the football panel was brought in specifically with the job of marking David Clifford in the Semi Final. You heard it here first. Another thing I don't think would have happened under Gavin #TrustTheProcess

In all honesty I can’t fault the man and things is is the most cool under pressure and does not balk or cave in to egos or hill pressure.

Look we all like different refs for certain reasons. I also like Conor Lane although I know the Dubs can't stand him but then again I can't stand Joe McQuillan (no need to explain there). Mu auld head couldn't be dealing with ref stuff pre-game, suffice as to say they are now getting called out on TSGs and rightly so - now GAA supporters understand how hard the task is but orders from high and whatever else is not on. If Michael Lyster made any contribution to our national game, well indeed he made a few, but the standout one for me was his calling out of then GAA President on a fixed AI final - deep down a few acquaintances of mine on the victors side weren't over joyed either and silently acknowledged Lyster's stubbornness and while RTE is good he was still taking a chance. Ah sin scéal eile - unforgivable to deny an unwaged sportsman his dues.

The 14 Dublin players never got the credit so for the most disciplined performance of all time. Prior to Coopers dismissal SoS had kicked 4 frees and PG had missed a penalty. But once Cooper went off, the 14 Dubs didnt make even one foul within kicking distance of the Kerry posts. Fair play to them is all i say.

It was easy in hindsight to claim he was unsighted and admit it was a free - he was close to the play, a player hit the ground - if he was unsighted he had the authority to stop the play and consult with his linesman who should have had a better view - agree its all split second decision making but feel he bottled it!

McManamon and Gough had been clubmates. McManamon got a 45 awarded to Dublin too which was pointed. Two huge incidents in their favour. Gough must be deficient someway not to opt out of these games. Same with Coldrick. Lack of self awareness or worse. fb.watch/dKMu6SZWJp/

Anyway, back to the match v Mayo.
If anything can be taken from the hurling QF yesterday its that nerves can play a huge part. The two winners yesterday made fewer mistakes.
Wexford and Cork played the previous weekend and got into the groove quickly but errors cost them ultimately.
DC hadnt had a game for ages so he can hardly be expected to be on fire.
Anyway, a week out from the game its a complete riddle as to what will unfold. Its going to be a long 7 days waiting in anticipation.

Remember the 2006 double-header quite well...Kerry/Armagh was first and the excitement was sucked out of the place once that game was over. The second game, Cork/Donegal was a very damp squib.
Hopefully the same doesn't happen next week - but I do think Galway/Armagh will have some atmosphere.

Hey Ciarrai74:, ya Hermit and I were only discussing the silence from back west before the Limerick game, it’s strange for a man who was so vocal on HS with us all over the last ten years and defected to suddenly drop off the face of the earth, what is most strange is the account has actually been completely deleted. So yes, share your concerns, genuinely hope all is ok back west of Blennerville bridge with the K’boy.

Hearing that Oisin Mullin is injured again for Mayo. Who do we think Mayo will put on Clifford now? Probably more rumours. However I don't think Mullin will mark David. He did in Tralee and did nt do too well. If I was Horan the man for David is Lee Keegan. Playing the devil's advocate, I'd put Keegan up on Paudie, it would allow Mayo push up on us and try to put us on the back foot.

Interesting read on here as always. Good to see that we're not the only set of supporters who hold grudges against refs over incidents that everyone else has long forgotten!!
While I'd love to see us win on Sunday, it's very hard to make a convincing case for that happening. I expect we'll be a lot better than the league final but despite winning against Kildare & Monaghan, we could easily have lost either of those games, esp against Kildare.
I think the match ups we'll go for will be Mullin on SOS, O'Hora on DC and Keegan on Brosnan/Geaney. Pressure on the ball out the field will be key to limiting Clifford's scores to something manageable. White is another player that we'll need to have a plan for, could stick MacLaughlin on him as he might have the legs.
Midfield is the one area where we might get some joy, Hennelly is probably better on kickouts than Ryan and Ruane & Flynn should at least break even.
It's hard to see where the scores are going to come from though with ROD still injured. Carr, Boland/McHale, DOC & Carney might get 3-5 between them on a good day, COC will chip in with 6-7 incl frees, maybe 2-4 from the backs and midfield. The top end of that gets us to 16 points which won't be enough and means we'd need a couple of goals to win. Not impossible but I wouldn't be betting on it unfortunately

I think this will be a lot more cagey affair than the league final. Horan normally has Mayo play in a man to man system but, I can see him using some configuration of a sweeper system at least in the first 20-25 mins. We will continue with our current system and play Morley as a +1.
The first half will most likely be played out between the two 45s with both teams looking to block up the channels. We can't afford to be as cavalier in possession as we were against Tyrone last year. As said previously what happens in the middle 8 is crucial. Adrian Spillane I think will be a big player for us. (I think we will need him to start) Interesting to see the rumors have started early with both Mullin and Clifford being ruled out.

If Adrian Spillane starts I expect his man to drop off and double up on Clifford. If that happens Adrian needs to trouble the scoreboard as well as doing his usual work around the middle.

For those driving to Croke Park on Sunday be aware that Clonliffe College is no longer open for parking, the Davin Car Park is being used by stewards & staff ( limited numbers, no spot guaranteed) so be careful where you park and give yourselves plenty of time to find somewhere and walk to the grounds.

Are the training sessions in Currans all behind closed doors nowadays. Just wondering...not interested in going there or anything.

It's funny how fast things can change... before the league final most people were expecting a very even match with little between the sides (I actually had a few pound on a draw that day - how wrong I was). Two months down the road and everyone is expecting Kerry to win. I'm hoping that Kerry don't take Mayo for granted and have learned from last year that league form doesn't count for much when it's straight knockout in Croke Park.

P. S Don't forget Mayo have two games under their belt in croke park now in the last few weeks. That will be worth a few scores to them. They played the round 1 qualifier in Castlebar not Croker. I feel like Mayo will need at least 2 goals in this game to have a chance at winning. Kerry have only conceded 2 goals all season (1 from play). I can't see us conceding those goals especially with the forward line Mayo have. Kerry's defence are a whole different ball game to Kildare. I expect 3 quarters of this game to be tight but Kerry to pull away in the final quarter. Kerry to win by 5-8 points.
