Lost it in first half. Four points up given the opportunities we had was not enough with that wind. Also, Tyrone kept in it with silly defensive tackles. More savvy defending and more efficiency up front would have seen us out the gate at half time. Same old failings really.

Thought Dara Moynihan really took the game to them in the second half. Paul Geaney was below par again throughout for me. Jason Foley had a very poor game, giving away 2 or 3 very cheap scores in the second half. A koller in a tight low scoring game. Tom looked v rusty, not unsurprisingly. In general, we lacked physicality around the middle 8 too today with Murphy, White, O'Brien all being tossed around at times. Tyrone, like Dublin, are masters at going to ground to win frees even when those that are built like brick *houses.

Jason Foley very poor, Gavin White, Gavin Crowley and Killian Spillane also didn’t seem up to the mark needed today. Impressed by Graham O’Sullivan and Dara Moynihan when he came on. Jack Barry tried hard and Liam Kearney was ok. On another note Shane Ryan was excellent. Very comfortable on the ball and his kick outs were quite good with limited movement out the field.

Ref only got worse after my earlier post. That was nothing short of an absolute disgrace. Next year at congress rather than focusing on new rules they should hold officials to account more for their implementation of current laws. An absolute farce. What has to happen for us to get Tyrone in a super 8 group, would love to give them so retribution.

Now on to our own failings.
Backs once again, far too lose. Our handling, notwithstanding the conditions, atrocious.
Poor game management, awful decision making.
Very worrying performances, not least foley, moynihan and geaney. Kick out strategy again a melt down. Cleaned out on breaking ball!
Need to bounce back fast!
Longer term, we need to get more street smart and when we get ahead show some killer instinct. We always give teams a chance.

Better than 20 training sessions well worth the road trip Mc Curry and Morgan On their home pitch were immense probably the difference Our late subs must have been cold on the side line they did not make enough impact . I did not see DOC get on the ball Tom o Sullivan s lack of match practice may have been a factor when he gave the very last pass to Geaney he never showed for the return pass which could have tied the game . The only thing that PG could have done was pass it back Tom went on the wrong side for the return . Dara Moynihan was a warrior throughout This only whets our appetite for the rest of the season Watch out for the wounded animal !!!

We rode our luck in the first two games and could very easily be pointless at this stage. Too many v-average/overrated players.

The Clifford decision was clearly a very bad call, not much to say otherwise. He might be in trouble if his reaction towards the umpires is in the referees report.
One thing that I think that's worth pointing out however is our efforts at maintaining possession late on.
We have a bad habit of hand-passing to a player running away from the pass, who invariably runs into a tackle straight away. We do this quite a bit so it's an area we could improve on. The Dubs would have worked a kick from the scoring zone in those last moments by minding the ball, passing to a player coming towards the ball (usual loop around player who passed it) and probably overloading one side of the field to get a free player across the field.
We're well behind on this front and, with so many close games, we need to improve.

Kelly is the poorest ref around at this level; absolute rubbish today. Clearly his umpires are no better.

Zero consequences for numerous very poor decisions. Thought Kerry fought hard and deserved something out of the game. The pitch was atrocious, some difference between that pitch and the one in Donegal. Thought it was dangerous and unplayable. I wouldn’t be too hard on the players.

Another good run out. That is a draw, a one point win and a one point loss to date in the league. I thought the team battled hard and on another day could easily have squeaked it. I don’t get the negativity from some on here. Tyrone were much more efficient on the day and kicked some cracking scores.

Those umpires had to be local umpires That would explain it . Local umpires in such inter county league games shouldn’t ever be allowed . If they were neutral umpires from neutral countries with a neutral mindset Then they should seriously consider a different line of work as they were totally unjust and incompetent or plane scared .
However that’s not why we didn’t win I’m not using that as any excuse

Disappointing that we didn't get something out of that game, but we did get another right battle. The pitch was only barely playable which made it difficult for everyone. It looks to me like we're just trying to get through the league being tested in matches but without any real game plan or preparation for any individual game. Our decision making again when it mattered most wasn't what you'd expect from top players, ie. running directly into a tackle or offloading to a player who's well surrounded. You can't teach cuteness, you either have it or you don't. I don't think we have a lot of it, especially in the backs.

I know its early but from going to watching games this year I think we have become too reliant on David Clifford. Everything goes through him and Teams are onto it.
Our other forwards are not scoring and it has come to the point that now we expect him to do the bulk of our scoring.
In this way we have gone backwards from last year.
If he gets hurt we are in serious trouble. You will never win anything relying on one forward to do most of the scoring.
It is totally unfair to rely so much on a 21 year old even at Club level.
Monaghan have been doing that for years with McManus.
The rest of the Forwards have to really step up or we wont be going very far this year.

not only was the David red disappointing, the fact their sub wasnt black carded for the pull down, makes it even more frustrating.
it means we played the last 12 minutes without our best player and 13 v 13 as opposed to 14 V 12. in a game we lost by a point.
simply not good enough.

The coaching has to be a worry at this stage. Tyrone made no attempt at fielding and it was the correct decision in the conditions. Jason Foley far too loose for a corner back. With the forward mark the back has to try and break the ball. Tyrone did it all over the field..

Firstly that game should have been called off it's a disgrace that any game be played in those conditions in a ground that's not fit for a div 1 game. It suited Tyrone to bring us there let's be honest. On the game itself, We should have been 7 or 8 in front at HT to compensate that wind. The ref was utterly inept for both sides. Tyrone won because they were clever and managed the wind much better than we did. I hate name checking players but PG was poor and really cost us, spilling ball, giving poor passes and missing our only goal chance. It's all well being in there for experience but you need to give more, lazy tackling as well. I'm sorry I really like PG but he isint warrenting of that position at this moment.

Backs might as well have kicked most of Tyrone scores. Terrible defending and stupid fouling. The advanced mark is a joke of a rule. Ruins the game.

To put that into perspective, Tyrone only managed 3 points from open play today. And two of those were scored by half-backs. Ludicrous that you could win a game at this level with that stat.

The advanced mark is a joke of a rule. Ruins the game. I agree fully agree, most of Tyrones marks were uncontested catches into the chest. A few times it caught me by surprise that the game stopped as the rule slipped my mind on those occasions and it prevented attacks progressing big time. Tyrone had only 2 points from play I think and Kerry only 4 which sums that game up really, a dirty game that won't live long in the memory for either set of supporters.

I hope Kerry aren't going to take this lying down. The card must be appealed and the officials should be made to account for their actions. It's clear from the footage that Clifford did nothing and that in fact, aware that he was on a yellow, he made a point of doing nothing as he was hauled to the ground. The referee's report needs to be scrutinised and the following asked: * Did you actually see David Clifford commit an offence during the incident in question? If so, what did you see? * Did your umpire report that he actually saw David Clifford commit an offence? If so what? Bear in mind that we have video evidence. I'm not holding my breath for any of this to happen but the Co Board will have to back the player here. This sort of bullsh*t is totally unacceptable.

The most important thing today in those conditions against that team was to get out of there without any serious injuries.
Hope Steven O Brien is OK.
And Peter Keane will have learned a few things about our defence that need to be reiterated.

I didn't make it but was at Dgal v Galway - what is obvious is that supporters (inc myself at times) forget the conditions, Dgal v Galway was an exceptional game in the conditions and which were absolutely atrocious, the low sun was the issue were I stood so take it from there, ref was ok and while I didn't see TSG, Dgal looked to be done out of 2 points, then again issues were raised that I have neither sight nor sound of .. ah either team could have shaded it or could have been a draw.
Here's my take of the weekend - Ref screwed Monaghan vs Dubs and who we drew with and who robbed Galway and who pipped Dgal who pipped Monaghan and Maigh Eo who pipped Meath, etc - did I get all that right, very competitive, great times iz a coming and the Championship should throw up some tight battles.
As regards 'poor defending' I think forwards are getting sharper and the only way a team will have star defenders is when forwards can't score and that will never happen, well hopefully not anyway! Marking star forwards is a damage limitation exercise, if and when criticizing your best man marker who is marking the best attacker, bear in mind others wouldn't do as good, he is the best man marker and if he isn't then the selectors got it wrong, also bearing in mind form on the day. Look at how Kerry forwards run rings around defenders in every game we play. The code of the game is such that the advantage is with the man in possession, try facing the likes of Clifford, M Murphy or Shane Walsh as they run at you! Impossible to shoulder too, by the time you 'get the shoulder in' they are already in the next parish. So sorry folks, 'bad defending is here to say! I wonder how Paidí O'6 would fare today as one of the tightest markers - did he only ever concede was it 5 points in Croker? Deenihan was tight as a ducks arse but would he have the agility for today' game?
You can also throw in attacking defenders with both Galways CBs goaling vs Dgal, bearing in mind you can have defenders on defenders i.e. positional play is no more really. I had a pitch side view yesterday in Letterkenny and some of the play in what some may feel was an average game, was awesome, Murphy and Shane Walsh in possession a joy to watch close-up, made it worth while bearing the elements.

What will get us over the line is our ability first and foremost to defend as a team starting with our forward line who must learn to tackle more and be more agressive. On our worse day I'd hate to see the tackle count for our front six. This has a knock on effect as teams go by us from deep ,creating overlaps and putting our backline under pressure as the ball coming in is easy unpressurised ball that forwards love.Pressure must be put on those kickers. Our backs must learn then, with the advent of the advanced mark,to play their man from the side or else in front.Standing off them can cost you easy scores. If we can manage all of the above I've no issue with us going forward. There is no secret to defending. Its just being tight to your man.

I must say Graham O'Sullivan impressed me at times today, Gavin White out muscled today.. decent going forward but not strong enough and was given a roasting today by (even though he got motm) McCurry. Peter Crowley and Adrian Spillane were sorely missed for their physicality.

Also slightly off topic but was that Tyrone 1st time playing a competitive inter county game there. Venue looked familiar but don't remember Tyrone playing too many home games outside of Healy Park. Maybe somebody could shed some light on this for me. Thanks
