Kerry is today saddened by the untimely death of a young footballer, Niall McGillicuddy of Kilcummin, who died unexpectedly after a short illness.
Those of us who knew Niall or saw him demonstrate his gifted skills on the football fields will bemoan his loss to Kerry football in the years ahead in what promised to be a bright future.
But one of the most devastating traumas imaginable is when parents have to deal with the death of a child; a violation of the usual order of things in which the child is expected to outlive the parents. For them, there is no protection from the pain, grief, and emptiness that only those who have lost a child can understand.
My wish for his family is that they may find as much peace and tranquillity as they can possibly find in the days and nights ahead.
Condolences to his Parents, Sisters, extended family, Friends, and Club - May he rest in peace.
