Next weekend Churchill-Hail! Hail! the Green and Black Army- will play Beaufort in the Junior Premier semi-final. Now this is the furthest, to my knowledge, that Churchill have ever progressed in a county competition and I think that it's a little sharp to have the match played in Listry which as the crow flies is 3 miles away from Beaufort, and a touch further by road. Now I know that Listry is in East Kerry and Beaufort is in Mid-Kerry, gerrymandering be damned, but this is just wrong. Castleisland would have been the ideal venue for this clash especially as Churchill- Hail! Hail! etc. are a Division 5 team and Beaufort are assailing the heady crags of Division 1. Any thoughts?

Sounds like getting in excuses early.
You would be better off with a "they'll best them anywhere" attitude.
Having said that it is a peculiar venue.

Mustn't have a great knowledge considering they won the Novice in 2009

The game is in Milltown, not Listry. Further from Beaufort but Milltown is in Mid Kerry

Mea culpa, it is indeed Milltown, which is only a few miles further along the road for Beaufort. Had the match been held in Listry at least the defence of it being in another district could have been used! hurlingman there is nothing wrong with my knowledge and I should perhaps have said that Churchill have to the best of my knowledge never played in a Junior semi-final, thus making it the furthest the club has gone in a county competition. 1972 was another great year for the club with a first Novice win and three Kerry players in the ranks which was outstanding for a small club.

Churchill is an unusual club in so far as that it gets a disproportionately high number of players on to county minor and u21 (as it has been over the years) teams but these players never seem to progress to be good adult players. It's amazing for a club of its tradition that the upcoming game is the furthest they have ever gotten.

Churchill in fact made a junior final in 1970. For the first time in years it seems Churchill finally have a team with good chemistry youth and heart. It is a massive ask of them to overcome beufort but there were favorites for most people to be relegated so who knows. As regards the venue I think it is unfair it is in a mid Kerry pitch but at the end of the day it comes down to the players on the pitch

I honestly don't think it matters where this game is played to be honest - though all credit to Churchill for making it this far. I honestly don't think it matters where it's played as Beaufort will be far too strong

I seen beaufort earlier in the year against John mitchels in the county league and they really did impress me. The spine of there team seems to be very strong with the likes of Mike breen ronan murphy and Liam Carey back boning the side and all have represented some sort of a kerry team in previous years. As regards to churchill I do not know much about the squad but have done extremely well to make it this far and will most definitely fancy their chances. They will need the rub of the green to go their way on the day and massive performances from the likes of ivan parker mikey brennan and young Sean Donnellan who by all accounts is a real upcoming star in the Churchill club. All in all though I think this may be a step too far for the division 5 side and with liam Carey on the forty I think Churchill will have a real task on their hands Prediction beaufort to win by 7 or 8 points
