I think James mc Carthy emotional interview is testimony to the fact that these Dublin guys put there heart and soul into GAA. No different to James o Donoghue ,Colm Boyle or Sean Cavanagh. To be honest I have found the last two weeks on here nothing but a blame game and something usually reserved for the Meath lads. Trying to blame Dublin millions on every one else's short comings. Mick mack at the forefront scouring the Internet and reproducing quotes from various authors to justify an agenda. I'm conscious this is Kerry forum and everyone entitled to their opinion. But really lately there is no proper discussion on actual Gaa . Just herd following and blaming refs . Have to say earlier in the year there was great discussion. I understand Kerry aren't involved now so interest and things will slightly shift . But lads some of this blaming is cringe worthy. I'm told Hoganstand or Mayo Blog is bad, I don't think know . But I think I'll take a break from here for a while. I might drop back in January , congratulations on your minor victory. I still think you will be our biggest rival next year and hopefully then we can debate in proper discussion. If I have an agenda it is to see some sort of level playing pitch. This brave Mayo team is being denied their entitlement and you know it deep down by a confluence of events that sees the dice totally skewed in favour of Dublin.

There is only one thing to be said here and that is heartiest congratulations to Dublin. They did all that was asked of them all summer. The right team always wins. Like all games there are points that could be made but that could be seen as devaluing their victory. They are undisputed champions.
Having won 4 minors in a row I was already looking forward to next year until Dessie Dolan told the nation sixty seconds after the final whistle that "Next year Dublin will be going for 4 in a row and will be going for 5 in a row the year after". Does Dessy know something we don't. During TSG discussion he was completely silent. He must have a great agent.

Looking at the history of 3 in a row victories (and including the first 3 years of a four in a row) this Dublin achievement is put in a little context. It was the tightest of victories with the score being +5 for the three games - the average margin for a three in a row side has been 17.3pts. Only Kerry in the 39-41 sequence came anywhere near this tight a finish with +7 over the three games.
It is also the first time that the three in a row sequence involved a replay victory - all previous 3 in a row sequences were blemish free!!!

Like 2013, Mayo lost this game in the first half. They were the better side during that time but kicked some awful wides. Keegan kicked one into Cluxton's arms. Ultimately they can have no complaints though. They weren't good enough. Yes the foul on Connolly was soft but McQuillan also gave a soft one to Mayo when O'Connor hit the post.
Congrats to Dublin, great achievement.

Ah now, Dessie's great in fairness, that episode of Room to Improve was great and I believe they will soon be contesting Home of the Year. Not to mention the upcoming series of Dessie's and Des's B & B Road Trip when they tour along the East coast in search of anyone who can recall a competitive Leinster Championship match...

Five wins this decade certainly makes the decade Dublins - a fantastic return for them. The stunning aspect is their resilience and ability to win the tight ones - four of their five victories were by 1 point- the biggest winning margin was their 3 point win over Kerry. Never has a team won so much by so little.
Strange in many ways given their total domiance of Leinster and even the All Ireland series up to the final.

Congratulations to Dublin. It was a great one to win after such an engrossing match. Eventually and essentially it boiled to a tale of two frees. Cillian missed his . Dean converted his. Mayo may complain with some justification that the winning free was soft . On the other hand , if Cillian converted his to win the game Dublin would have grounds for saying that free was soft too. It was that close. Overall , I felt the referee did a good job although it is a little eerie to reflect that it was the same ref who awarded Dublin last minute winning frees in 2011 and 2017.
Dublin are worthy champions and have been great champions. They have a distance to go before they can be spoken of in the same breath as the Kerry team of the golden years but they could get there.
Like most neutrals , I am heartbroken for Mayo. They really could not have given any more. It has often been that a team needs at least two exceptional forwards to win an All-Ireland e.g . Stephen O'Neill, Peter Canava; Stephen McDonne, Oisin McConville; our own Colm and Declan. It occurred to me yesterday that sadly Mayo do not have forwards of that stature. Perhaps, in the heel of the hunt that is their major shortcoming. Next year must feel like an eternity to them. Maybe their women folk will give them some element of compensation next Sunday.

Massive Congratulations to Dublin. Staring down the barrel again and didn't panic. Jesus you have to feel for those Mayo lads. What a team, many others have conceded an early goal to Dublin over the years and absolutely capitulated regardless of stature and divisional standing. But Mayo dusted themselves down and for the 3rd time in a year outplayed Dublin in the biggest stage but couldn't see it out. I honestly don't think I could go through it. I find losing 1 in a row tough enough but nine! Dublin have won 3 in a row and in none of the finals have they reached the heights they are capable of. Just shows they can do it anyway you want. They can awe & dazzle you by blowing away an ultra defensive side like Tyrone or have a shoot out like they did with Kerry last year.... but they can also grind out a dogged victory as they have done at Mayo's expense twice and of course ourselves back in 2015.
On the game itself, a very very sloppy first half from both teams with wayward solo runs and misplaced passes. But it was enthralling from start to finish.
Once again though, Joe couldn't help but leave his mark. No doubt Vaughan's red card was deserved for a stupid moment of madness but how him or his linesmen spot O'Gara's "Phillyesque" gouge in the first half. The free at the end of the first half was laughable really and I thought in general Mayo had to work a lot harder to get frees than their blue counterparts.
Still and all, some of Mayo's shot selection was very poor in the first half in particular. They weren't switched at the start and nobody was ruthless enough to just foul Con O'Callaghan as he went through for the goal, did they not watch the Semi Final? Cillian O'Connor taking on that free at the beginning of injury time from that angle. Now, I know he hit the upright but he had been missing all day from far easier positions. Try and work it to a man in a more scoreable position. Key Decisions that the Dubs weren't found lacking in and Mayo were.

For so much to go wrong for Dublin on the pitch in the first half and for them still to win this game just shows the quality they have. Obviously the big refereeing decision went their way but Donie Vaughan has only himself to blame for allowing the ref to make that decision.
For all the talk of their professionalism, their athleticism, their command of the skills of the game, what Dublin have shown more than anything in their wins over Kerry and Mayo these last 3 years is their resilience. A trait of all great teams.
Looking out at the sunshine now, wouldnt it be great to be strolling around Dublin now after your team has won the All Ireland. Its hard not to be jealous of them.

The previous comments re Mayo are uncalled for, though sitting with the Dublin team I was quietly willing a Mayo win. I knew the first half wides would punish them but for a few minutes I thought they'd actually pull it off. Donie Vaughan must be kicking himself today, not sure that it would have made for a different result but at least they'd have had an extra man. Congrats to Dublin, they have that special ingredient, the never say die attitude which keeps punishing other teams. While we were celebrating in 2011 they were clawing back the scores and the rest is history. Here's to a better year for Kerry Seniors in 2018.

Congratulations to Dublin, deserved winners once again. Could Mayo have won? Did they have the chances to win? Did Donal Vaughan's sending off benefit Dublin? If Cillian O' Connor scored the free, would it have made it harder for Dublin? Of course the answer to all of the above is YES. However, if anyone is brazen enough to turn around and argue that Dublin are not the best team in the country and deserved champions once again then they are deluded. I don't like the fact that Dublin are so good but I admire them so much. People and pundits alike speak of this admiration for this Mayo team and their resilience and how they can get back up and keep going to the well after so many heart breaking defeats but the REAL resilient team are Dublin. They have 31 counties hoping they lose. They have a never say die attitude that has to be commended. Gooch touched on this, they never panic....EVER. 63 minutes on the clock yesterday and down 2 points, but they have been in this pressure environment before and they have invariably taken the correct decision on the ball and yesterday they did exactly that once again. Keep the ball in the hand and get it to the right man, they did that and gave it to Diarmuid Connolly, their most talented player and both him and Dean Rock came up trumps. I envy them, but I admire them so much. What a team.

Gavin started with O Gara in the full forward line and I think that disrupted the normal attacking play of the Dubs, they got a lucky enough goal but there after in the first half they spluttered and staggered their way to a one point deficate at the short whistle. Mayo had them on the ropes in that half and while they did kick some fine scores, fatally for them they missed several gifted opportunities and those misses were the winning and losing of that game, in a final you simply can't afford to miss those kind of chances.
The dubs are a fine team and are definitely up there with the best of all, to do three in a row is a wonderful achievement and hats off to the them. I like 99.9% of non dubs was of course supporting Mayo and was roaring and screaming at the TV as if it was Kerry playing but they blew key moments. Aidan O Shea to try that hero kick just after Keegan had changed the momentum with a devastating goal was a gamechanger for me and it kinda released the pressure on Dublin who were reeling. I felt if they had worked that ball into a scorable position and nailed it they would have gained great belief in a game that was dancing on a knife edge.
Mayo must be wondering if this bloody curse really exists,, one point loss in 2013, two own goals last year, a one point loss in the replay and now this. It's just too much sporting grief to heap on to that misfortunate team and it's hard to imagine that they come again but Mayo are the most gutsy team around so they will probably come again. They now have a few elder statesmen who will have to ponder their future as the days shorten. Being so agonisingly close will surely tempt one last march

If I have an agenda it is to see some sort of level playing pitch. This brave Mayo team is being denied their entitlement and you know it deep down by a confluence of events that sees the dice totally skewed in favour of Dublin. Entitlement? No team has an entitlement to win an All-Ireland. Hard luck stories and sympathy will not bring home the Sam. You have to go out and perform and earn it. It was not Dublin's population or finances that caused the Mayo forwards to kick the first half wides that should have opened a gap, or that contributed to Vaughan's stupidity, or make Cillian O'Connor miss a free to win the All Ireland. Complaining about unfair advantage is just moaning, and is not the Kerry way. Kerry have no shortage of money or players. Cork have more GAA clubs than Dublin. Kildare have spent millions and nothing to show for it. I doubt Mayo have wanted for anything in their preparation. If population and money was enough to win All-Irelands, why have Dublin not won any hurling titles? Trying to give the Leitrims and Longfords the same chance as Dublin is pointless, as they never had any chance and never will. This is not the NFL with a draft system and salary caps. Dublin have invested their resources well for years in good structures for clubs and underage and are now reaping the benefits. It is up to every other county to raise their standards and catch up. Whingeing and moaning is just loser mentality and will not help us to change what we can change and come back better and stronger.

In the 90s the Dublin and Kerry hurlers were on a par and this remained until the noughties when huge money was invested in the Dublin hurlers. They ended up beating Kilkenny and Galway to win leinster and national league titles. Do you think that Kerry would not improve with 100 full time coaches? Facts are facts even if this is the age of Trump and brexit. Fair play to the Dubs, they're making the most of what they've got, you can't blame them, only admire them. Some of the advantages you also can't do anything about. For example you have to have all the All Ireland series in Croke Park, that's just the way it is. Population is an advantage but you can't do anything about that, forget the stupid idea of splitting them in two. What the gaa and the government can do is ensure as level a playing field as possible. The extra gaa and government money that gets spent on coaching in Dublin should be spread evenly throughout the country. If dublin play all their championship games at home they should have to play all their league games away, it's farcical as well to have one team playing their league games in headquarters. Finally this is such a no brainer it shouldn't have to be said, don't let refs working and living in a county ref games involving that county.

Colm O'Rourke advancing a case for splitting up Dublin because players in Dublin aren't getting a chance to play inter-county. That is an argument for allowing the Dubs enter a second team... an option they currently don't take via the Junior Championship.
Dublin are winning games by 1-3 points in the final. They aren't miles and miles ahead.

Hard to see Mayo pick themselves up again after yesterday. Kerry, the evidence to date suggests it unlikely.
Depressing.

I thought Mayo were finished last year. If they hold onto their 30+ players, they're still the only ones capable of pushing Dublin. Kerry will lose a few experienced men I reckon and Tyrone aren't there yet. No other team are "within a hounds gowl", as my da used to say.

Congrats to Dublin from this Mayo supporter. I've a grudging admiration for all they've achieved in recent years. While for Mayo the fear is that the beast will continue to devour any chances of Mayo winning a single title in the coming years, there is also a real possibility of them overtaking the legendary 80s Kerry team in terms of achievement - a scenario in the modern era most would have scoffed at a decade ago (when Dublin teams had little of what they have in abundance now... backbone). If nothing else, Mayo have shown that you can compete with Dublin, and maybe another county in our situation coming up to the finishing line yesterday would have pulled the trigger.
A telling Hugo Clerkin stat...in the last 3 Mayo/Dublin AIs, the Dubs bench has contributed 8 points to Mayo's 1.
Bench aside, there's a definite issue in the Mayo psyche which is heart wrenching for Mayo folks, and deeply frustrating for people outside the county willing them on. My young daughter muttered to me through her grief when exiting Croker that if that was a semi that Mayo would have won. There is definitely something in that, and for a young girl to come out with that is very telling.
What I expect could happen soon is that Mayo will finally slay the beast in the semis, only to have that young pup Clifford come along and muck things up yet again in the final. Jaysus go easy on that young fella - the weight of expectation on his young shoulders already is enough to drive a man to... Australia.
Looking forward to doing it all again next year. Keep up the good work on this board. Must say I enjoy dipping in on a regular basis.
Finally... hands off Donie B ye feckers!!!

Brexit is a real killer as it will further boost the booming Dublin area while hampering rural Ireland, and most of all the border region, the poorest part. Even for Dubs such boom is unwelcome as it means they cannot afford to live there and by the time the GAA would spilt Dublin the ethnic portion will have eroded. And that is not any one being parochial, it is a fact of globalisation.

Dublin should do the four now. Apart from Mayo I can't see anyone coming near them. They will give some of their u21s game in the League. Evan Comerford Cillian O'Shea Brian Howard Glen O'Reilly and Colm Basquel are fine prospects.
Con O'Callaghan and Cormac Costello are still very young. They can rest most of the older players now for most of the League and still probably be close to Winning it. I'm sure nobody will retire. 5 in a row is possible at this stage.
