James walsh from knock refuses to play for his local gaa club but yet he plays for st kierans and kerry juniors. Surely he should not be allowed to play for the county if he refuses to play for his club?

As an aside, is he not supposed to be transferring to Stacks? Perhaps I'm wrong.

Supposedly there has been a falling out with knock and the transfer is happening to stacks.

As far as I know the transfer deadline is closed for this year- does it not close at the end of March every year??
At the end of the day it's the young fellows own choice where he wants to play.

This James Walsh story is intriguing , wanting to move away from the club of his father Eamon and grandfather , the celebrated Eddie. Is his brother Edmond still playing with Knocknagoshel?

Peter Canavan didnt play club football for years due to a dispute Mickey Harte had over such tournament game. The club split.

Well really it shouldn't be the case Shouldn't be the case that the deadline is closed in March or that he can play where he wants?? Shane Murphy & Alan O Sullivan transferring to the crokes in the recent past comes to mind with the latter. It's unfortunate for knock but I don't think they can do a lot about it if he wants to go & he ticks all the boxes for the county board.

by not playing club football for a year, does he not become free to transfer?, or does playing with the local district senior team negate this? often good players playing with junior hurling clubs in cork stay idle for a year to transfer to a senior club

Did any of ye hear about Colm Parkinson's travails trying to play intermediate with Portlaoise?

I kinda viewed him as a bit of a goon previously but its actually very good and he's insightful enough.

dont think this forum should have dedicated threads to individual club cases, not fair on any player.

I don't agree that James Walsh should be allowed play where he wants. It is his club and it's not good enough to say that they may not be competing at a level he would like to play at or whatever his argument for wanting to move are. Certain circumstances are justified and frankly I don't know anything about it maybe something happened between the club and player we just don't know. I am almost sure Edmond works in Dublin so that's a fair reason to transfer, you couldn't object to a player transferring especially with that commute.
In the case of Alan O' Sullivan I feel that he was justified in moving, he had a new Killarney base where he worked as a secondary school teacher and obviously grew frustrated travelling from Killarney to Tuosist to arrive at training where 6 and 7 players was the regular showing. This coupled with the fact that Tuosist were struggling to field a team and were giving teams walkovers at the time.
Shane Murphy is perhaps a little different. While I am delighted Shane moved to Crokes, he moved because he couldn't get a game and probably felt he wasn't been given a fair shot. I can see his frustration but if every player was to do that we would have zero loyalty. Tony Brosnan, Micheal Burns, Chris Brady and Jamie Doolan all struggling to start or even get game time......do they transfer to Spa, Legion, Kilcummin to get a game? I can see his frustration and he is a top goalkeeper but maybe it is up to him to work hard and give the Kilcummin management no option but to play him. It's a tough one.

I wouldn't have an issue with Murphy's move, was always going to struggle to get time with Kilcummin. He's ex team mates move to Legion however is a different story. I might be wrong but jas Walsh moving not been talked about for a while?
