Hopefully Kerry can come through tonight ,don't know much about tipp but with Kerry's injury problems it would be great to get over this game and hopefully get a few more back as the competition progresses,

The best of luck to the lads tonight. We need a good run at u21 level. If we can over tonight and get some players back I think Kerry will go close this year but getting through tonight is the first thing.

I see Tipp have 6 players that played with their seniors. Last year's Tyrone team had 7. Kerry have 0. Struggling to even remember the last time Kerry had an u21 player who was a regular for the seniors? Possibly Barry John Keane in 2011?

Possibly Barry John Keane in 2011? ya but its a sign that our senior team is stronger than theirs, not alot more really. the likes of JOD, Crowley, Fionn, Kelly, Murphy, SOB and P Geaney took 2-3 years to break into the senior team, if they were in most other counties (especially those outside division 1) they probably would have been in the set up, much quicker. several counties would have 4 or 5 of our 2014 minor team in their Senior team already if they could!!!

Having managed at minor and senior inter-county level, O’Connor has described his latest brief as the toughest.
“At minor level, it is much more structured and streamlined. Whereas [at U21], there’s fellas coming from all angles. You’ve colleges and clubs and bits and pieces of everything, it’s a tough assignment. We’d the minors for two years and we felt that the next challenge was to try and develop that group because a lot of them can fall off after minor. That’s a critical age, fellas can fall off for one reason or another. They’re away from home, they’re going to college, their lifestyle changes. It’s a very challenging age group.”
Against this light and in a bid to end the pulling and dragging of players at U21 level, Congress recently passed a motion to lower the age bracket to U20 and move the competition away from the already congested spring schedule.
“With the new proposal, they’re talking about June, July and August, which definitely makes more sense because we had a huge problem with the weather the way it was and trying to get pitches. The change to summer football is going to be a major benefit, certainly.”
Its is madness to be running this competition off between the Sigerson and the college exams. Moving it to the summer is correct even if some elect to go away for the summer

Hard earned win but thoroughly deserved; Kerry struggled with Tipp's defensive set up, 2 sweepers in the first half; our midfield was playing second fiddle all through and then when Matthew O'Sullivan got a black on top of a yellow card on 20 mins we were down to 14; half time - 1-3 to 6 having to face the breeze and a man down; Kerry introduced Barry O'Sullivan in place of Greg Horan at half time with Killian Spillane replacing Eanna O'Conchuir; the introduction of Barry O'Sullivan was the move that won the game- he began to win ball around the middle, linking up really well and was always available for a pass; we still found it difficult to score though but Jack Savage was unerring from frees and eventually we forged 3 clear 0-11 to 1-05 with time running out; Tipp rallied but fell short. Best on the night were Brian O'Beaglaoi, Tom O'Sullivan, Gavin White, Barry O'Sullivan & Jack Savage- difficult to judge on the night, team will improve with the returning O'Sullivan and Cormac Coffey- it remains to be seen though if we have enough up front to trouble more physical opponents or teams as defensively minded as Tipp.

Kerry toughed that one out. Tipp weren't able to win enough ball which cost them. They filled the defense and then attacked in waves at speed. Excellent win considering the length of time Kerry were down to 14. Silly stuff from Matthew Sullivan. Barry O'Sullivan is some player. Tonight will bring Kerry on a fair bit.

A win in a tight game will bring on the team a lot. Are any of the injured stars likely to make it back before next round?

Just in from the game. Kerry looked to have the edge in this one but never seemed to be able to pull away once they went down to 14. The winning of the match was the introduction of Barry O Sullivan at halftime, he put in a good 1/2 an hour & popped up with a great point. Brandon Barrett was very busy in the first half & I hope his injury isn't too bad, even though I did see him on crutches as I left the ground. In the forwards Jack savage, Michael burns & both Killian Spillane & dara Roche played well when introduced, the backs as a whole were solid enough, jack Barry looks very accomplished every time i see him. I'd say tipp will be kicking themselves as they had plenty chances to work the ball up the field at times but either overplayed it or kicked long balls into a two man full forward line & neither seemed to work. The other thing that was highly frustrating was that both sets of jerseys were nearly the same under the lights which made it impossible to make players out, surely tipp could have changed to all white or something. Anyway, we live to fight another day.

Super win, super changes by Jack at half time. 14 men for 40 mins and still managed to dictate the game for that 40 mins. Excellent stuff, hats off to the management team, a very young Kerry side but they gave nothing away physically and showed the maturity to grind out a hard fought win

There were wins for Laois, Derry, Kerry and Cork in the Eirgrid U21 football championship on Wednesday night.
Laois trailed Wicklow for much of their meeting in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise, but staged a second-half comeback to see off the men from the Garden County.
Two first-half goals saw Wicklow lead by 2-6 to 0-7 at halftime, but scores from substitute Evan O'Carroll and Sean Moore were enough to see Laois home by 0-20 to 3-9.
They will face Dublin in a Leinster semi-final in Parnell Park on Saturday 19 March.
In Munster, Kerry did enough to defeat Tipperary in Austin Stack Park in Tralee.
A goal and a point from Liam Casey helped Tipp to a two-point lead after 20 minutes, but the sides entered the dressing rooms on level pegging at 0-6 to 1-3.
A Jack Savage free early in the second half helped the Kingdom into a one point lead and while Tipperary drew level twice, three points in three minutes gave Kerry the breathing room to hold on for a 0-11 to 1-7 victory.
Cork had an easier task against Clare at Cooraclare, eventually running out easy 0-23 to 0-10 winners.
The sides were level on two points apiece after ten minutes, but from there the Rebels pulled clear and were good value for their win.
Kerry advance to face Limerick in a semi-final in Tralee, while Cork will face Waterford in Dungarvan. Both matches are scheduled to take place next Wednesday.
In Ulster, Derry made home advantage count against Antrim in their preliminary round clash.
Three points within the first three minutes gave the Oak Leaf men an early lead which they stretched out over the half to lead by 0-12 to 0-3 at halftime.
Antrim staged a comeback of sorts in the second period, but the damage had been done in the first half as Derry ran out 0-16 to 0-11 winners.
They will now face Donegal in a quarter-final in Ballybofey next Wednesday

If Kerry and Cork make it to the u21 final, it will be an interesting few days in Tralee... the u21 final and the last league game between Kerry and Cork in the space of four days

Hard earned win. The first game playing together is always hard. Barry O'Sullivan made the difference. He's a very good prospect. If Kerry can get Cormac Coffey Matt Flaherty and Mark O'Connor back they will be hard to beat.
