When was the last time a manager retained SAM in his second season.....
I dont know the answer.
Mick o Dwyer, Heffo, Jack o Connor, Mickey Harte, Joe Kernan, they all won SAM in the first season but failed to retain it the following year.
This is a big challenge for Pat o Shea to overcome in 2008

Can Pat do what they failed to do?

Dr. Eamon never did back to backs with Kerry!
Could it be argued about Tony Hanahoe, since he was manager, then selector in year two?!! (Clutching at straws here).

Read the question. Morgan was in his 5th season or so by 1990.

it might possibly be one of the managers or maybe both who guided kerry to their first 4 in a row and wexford to their 4 in a row way back.

The thing is KG, there wasn't such a thing as a manager back then.....more a collective of a few men running the show from around the clubs.

why have so many managers failed in their second year?
Loyalty to certain players?
Loss of hunger?
Complacency?l

why have so many managers failed in their second year? Loyalty to certain players? Loss of hunger? Complacency?l in relation to kerrys last all-ireland defeat i 'd say you have ticked the two first boxes there mickmack, you'll find concluesive evidence in jacks book to back this up. personally i felt that if both this kerry team and the recent tyrone team failed to win back to back all-irelands it wouldnt be achieved for a very long time to come.
