First off a very small sample size - 5 games each.
Kerry's attack averaging a score of 22.2 over the 5 games, Donegal 19 points.
Kerry's defence conceded an average of 17 points, Donegal 13 points.
While Kerry's attack seems to have maintained a pretty return regardless of opposition, Donegal's attacking performance can be broken down into the 2 games against Antrim and Dublin [3-16 and 3-17] and the games against Derry, Monaghan and Armagh [1-11, 0-15 and 1-12] In the easier games, they scored a total of 25 and 26 points whereas against the better defences they scored a total of 14,15 and 15. Basically when they come up against teams with poor defences they have the skills to take advantage of it - against teams with better defences their scoring average drops drastically. The number of goals scored obviously is a key factor here - 6 goals scored in the 2 games against the poor defences compared to 2 in the 3 games against the better defences.
In terms of defence the key thing for me is the total of 2 goals conceded in 5 games by the Donegal defence compared to the 7 in 5 for the Kerry defence.
