hope not if so mayo will beat us, all they have to do is put two men on star and break the ball mayo best is winning the dirty ball, kerry will have to keep the forwards spread wide attack down the middle, and play the kerry style of football, i hope to god we don't see star in fullforward and just kicking hight ball on top of him. i seen a few faults in mayo's team again cork that kerry can work on. if we are ahead or just a few points behind at half time, mayo's best spell in games is just after half time, if we can win this spell in the game i think we will take them by 2 to 4 point win. ...the point I was getting at is they can't put two men on KD and two men on JOD also.

My stab at the team: B Kelly; M Ó Sé, A O'Mahony, S Enright; P Murphy, K Young, F Fitzgerald, D Moran, A Maher; S O'Brien, B Sheehan, D Walsh; P Geaney, Declan O'Sullivan, J O'Donoghue.
Maher just about gets the nod because I think he still offers more than Buckley. We will need his physicality against Mayo's big men. And Sheehan , if fit, has to start.
I would love to see Crowley starting, but I don't think Young will be dropped. But he certainly is a good option from the bench.

It's still only 15 aside right? Or do Mayo get an extra 2 players because of AI drought?!!! lol It would be great to put Star in FF and hope for ~2006 form to return, but alas form doesn't point that way! Heard similar rumblings about Declan alright, but hopefully he will make it. If he didn't, then I think the most obvious replacement would simply be O Brien, with a few positional changes. But only ~90 minutes to hope, wait and see! On somewhat of a side note, having seen the knees bandaged so heavily after the Galway game, I couldn't help but think we should enjoy Declan while we have him...

Hearing that Moran is in for Sheehan. Crowley in for young and O Brien in for Declan.
Hope that's not the case, without Declan and Bryan our chances aren't great.

If Star was deployed at FF I would have no qualms whatsoever. Sure if all comes to all and he is not performing stick him in fullback and get him a black card while stopping a certain goal
On a serious note surely he is a viable option though? As ye say lads Mayo cant double mark them all.
Oh come on and give us the team for Gods sake....

Moran, Crowley and O Brien would strengthen things if anything. No?

Misteallaigh abu:I heard rumours during the week but nothing as major as that,no injuries were mentioned. I hope what you heard is not true,I heard that there might be a change in the backs, possibly the fullback line.We will know shortly anyway.

oh, man, Declan is some loss.. And Bryan Sheehan not starting you'd imagine must also imply an injury that is not fully healed? I guess they are massive men to have coming off the bench if able for 20 min of football.. I am happy to see Crowley in, I think he brings a big physical presence.
Mikey and Donnacha to drop deep all day, with the 4 remaining to take as much advantage of the space as possible.
Best of luck to the team and management..

I am surprised to see that Fitz named James as he has meant to have done his shoulder again at training on Tuesday night. Did anyone else hear that?

Talk of double marking reminds me of Tom (not Tommy) Carr in Mayo vs Cork commentary, Mayo were very naive because they couldn't double mark every Cork forward!!

Declan and Brian are huge losses.
Very worried now. :-(
But I guess we have to trust management to make the right calls.
Our bench is full of talent and experience that will be crucial for the final quarter. Perhaps they know that Declan and Brian don't have 70 minutes and would rather have them finishing out the game. I'd expect to see both of them early in the second half or before half time.

I would only surmise that neither are on there for their scoring abilities, but for their engine to track back and build from there.. If we were going for forwards who would keep half backs "honest", then I would think Barry John would be a bigger threat.. I am glad to see Mikey Geaney get a shot, I thought he did well against Galway, but I expect him and Donnacha to be going deep a lot and building from there. Just an opinion :-)

And lovin that team. if Bryan and Declan can give us a 15 mins at the end along with Killian then all the better. Youth has its fling thank God. Johnny was a very, very longshot on here to nail down the 40... me included in that. I hope and hope and hope he has a Croker stormer if he does we are over half way there.
Besta luck and Ciarraí Abú.

That's a seriously strong bench! If we are well in this contest at half-time - there's some serious fire power to call upon in the the second half - when I suspect this game will be up for grabs. Fortune favours the brave - it's an old saying for a reason. Up the Kingdom!

Everyone bar Pa Kilkenny on the bench has a decent amount of championship experience.
Looking at that list again, I couldn't help but think what a pity it is that Patrick Curtin isn't at least on the panel. He surely has a lot to offer.
Back to Sunday, huge call by Fitzmaurice to drop Young, and I welcome Crowley's return. Can only imagine he will mark Aidan O'Shea.

If guys can't start because of injury (Sheehan + Declan) than it's naive to think they will automatically contribute from the bench.
This team and many of the individuals in it will have to produce something beyond what they've produced to date in order for our bench to be allowed have an influence.
This could be the making of many of these players going forward, but lets be realistic, it's advantage Mayo now if it wasn't already!

I said in a previous post that being in a semi final was a great year for Kerry. The young guns have outdone themselves this year so the sights have been risen.
Win or lose on Sunday it is the way forward for this up and coming Kerry Team.
Respect Eamon and back room team .

If this game is in the melting pot with 10 to go then the players you mention could very well be the difference,

In fairness I think Seamo would concede that they could be the difference and is just referring to another poster who said it is a really strong bench. It isn't necessarily a great thing if these lads aren't fit.
