Does anyone remember the song that was released on single after the 1978 All Irelan Final.
i had a copy of it back then but lent it to a friend (who since passed away tragically) and I had no intention of asking his parents for it back.
It was sung by a Dub called Noel Nash who apparently had a bet with a Kerry fella. If Dubs won in 1978 the Kerry fella would write a song about it and vice versa. Luckily the result went the right way and Noel had to pen his ode to Kerrys success.
I can only remember the chorus (used to sing it at school concerts donkeys years ago). The song told the story of the match.
If anyone remembers it please post up the words and we can enter it in the Eurovision for next year ( marginally better than "My lovely Horse)

Classic one liner Kerrygold.
Unfortyunately the song I am talking doesn't conjour up the same sort of images.
The chorus went something like:
"its a grand victory for everyone to see Ogie Morans men they wrote the story When the man from BallyB...he did it one two three The Kerry Heroes wrapped themselves in Glory."
in hindsight the one about the girls and the mud ring is better

I was devastated that the song wasnt on iTunes.
Owenabu When you have such spectacular victories to commemorate in song then you will understand.
Joan If you are feeling homesick you could hum the tune to yourself and hark back to the great day

Peig, I'll start painting my zimmer frame now so will I? In another few years I mightn't be able for such a task. You on the other hand will never live to see Kerry lift the Liam McCarthy.

I have a vague memory of the song from my youth - but in Kerry we're more interested in winning All Irelands than writing, singing or buying songs about it!

Its just a memory And better to have a good memory of winning Hope to see the immortal words in print when you get them! By the way did the "tradition" of songs for Gaelic Football teams come in with Heffo's Army or does anyone know of any earlier "gems"?

Id say every town and village in Ireland have victory songs about their teams down through the ages. The late Cormac O Leary from Moyvane penned many a fine song about victorious kerry teams along with several north kerry winning teams.

I have the song on vinyl single but unfortunately don't possess a turntable anymore.
The 45 is called the Kerry Victory Song by Noel Nash, words by Pete St. John. By side is Mountain Tay.
No idea even what the condition of it is any more but if anyone can digitize it and put it out as an MP3 we can organize it somehow.....

;DTry these few lines; to the tune of The Boys of Fairhill, The smell on Patrick's Ridge is wicked; how will Cooper and Donaghy stick it- ( the singing ends here) in the back of the net I suppose...

Most of these GAA songs are pretty pathetic but special mention must go to............"Mayoo! Mayoo! Sam Maguire's comin' home to Mayoo!...Mayoo! Mayoo! Sam Maguire's comin' home to Mayoo!". Does my head in every time i hear it.
