One
I felt from way back that the Kerry defense in 2007 was stronger that the 2006 version. The form of Tomas was a factor here obviously. Anyone agree. No disrespect to the 2006 defense by the way.
Two
What was the best team Kerry played in 2007. Cork, Monagahan or Dublin? For me it was Dublin because of their forwards.
Three
Given that the Championship is now effectively confined to the period from the first sunday in August to the second sunday in september, should Dara stay on, rest up for the winter and come bouncing back next summer. I dont think he should play in the league.
Four
Is the Munster championship worth winning at this stage

Question 1 Yes and no. 2007 has more pace than 2006 but 2006 full back line was slightly better under the high ball. Question 2 The Dubs cos Kerry met them further along the road. Kerry were lucky to beat Monaghan in that game but would have handled them more easily later on in the championship Question 3 Yes yes yes let Darragh rest for the league and maybe early summer. We also need to be blooding in Quirke and other pretenders. Would also rest the Gooch. Question 4 Worth winning? Not as revelant for winning AIs but its always nice to beat Cork!!

One: 2006 - They were more experienced.
Two: Cork in the Munster final. It was the game that announced Cork were a serious threat (well, to a point, you know what I mean - ignore the All Ireland final) and also the game in which the opposition made least mistakes this year.
Three: I hope Darragh stayes, and in a manner which suits both him and the rest of the squad. You have to remember fellas like Quirke and how they would feel toiling away all year for Darragh to take their spot in August maybe. DJ's re-entry before the semi final one year wasn't so smooth.
Four: Yes it is. Winning is always the best way to reach September. The six week break didn't help but that will be addressed.

Mickmack, not taking away from Kerry's victory, but I feel Cork are better than they played in the final. Not sure it was nerves or just lack of experience. I'm hoping next year they will regroup and put in a stiffer challenge.

One. 2006 was a better defense once seamus got going in the end for the last three games,i feel as a defense it had more available options.
two. Monaghan, they gave us our toughest challenge all year, they hardened us up,they drove us to the edge of the cliff, they asked us did we want back to back all-irelands and they focused kerry minds after that game.
three. i think darragh is off the opinion that you need to be playing national league football to keep your eye in,darraghs games is based on high fielding around the middle.I think he feels the game is gone so competitive now that you cant just turn up in august and dominate at midfield, this might ultimately decide his decision to play on.Maybe he might get away with playing in kerrys home league games next spring.Personally i dont think he will be able to resist the challenge of next year, but after dominating midfield for nearly 14 seasons i'll fully understand why he might not come back.
four. the munster championship is worth winning, its the best way to go,once you get through a quarter final you are in the grove and ready to go,its also fanstastic for club football in kerry. Winning the quarter final is buzz word though.

1. 2006 slightly. Last year's backs faced much better forwards.
2. Dublin
3. No.
4. Yes. Losing the Munster final wouldn't be too bad as it's only one extra game, but I certainly wouldn't like to lose the 1st round.

1. The 2006 full back line was stronger, but I think that the half back line is slightly better this year.
2. Hmm, its a tough one. Monaghan was certainly the toughest game, but Dublin were probably the better team. I think that if we met Monaghan in the semi we would have dispatched them comfortably (no disrespect to them).
3. Possibly rest him for some of the league. I agree with ASA that it would be unfair on the likes of Quirke and Griffin to be thought of as 'keeping Darragh's position warm'. I would also like to see Tommy Walsh get a couple of games in the league.
4. Of course it's worth winning, and more so if they address the long lay off for winning it. Winning becomes a habit.

No. It would be extremely hard for a man daras age to take the league off and then up his fitness/intensity levels for the championship. 4. Munster final day (for example killarney this year - mighty craic!) is still special in all kerry/cork fans hearts.

1. 2006 was better, more experience and better cover 2. Dublin were best team Kerry faced and the one game where played close to their potential 3. Darragh needs to play league for the reasons Jo90 so eloquently described. 4. You can never beat Cork enough times in a year.

1. I think both 2006 and 2007 are equal. 2. Dublin on the day but Cork in Killarney were strong too. 3. I really hope Darragh stays, of course he has served us well and is totally entitled to step down on a high but after his performance in the final there is no reason why he should not give it another shot. He needs to play in some of the league games to keep fresh. 4. Yes its worth winning but something needs to be done about the time frame.

I dont think he should play in the league. Four Is the Munster championship worth winning at this stage One: The full back line in 2006 was stronger. No disrespect to Tom O'Sullivan but he just isn't a natural full back. It took time for Kerry's defense to cohese in 2007. But after the Monaghan game it simply gelled - there's more of an understanding there now. Basing this kind of judgment on Kerry's last two performances v Dublin and Cork, I'd have to now opt for the 2007 defense. Two: Áth Cliath Three: There's no way Darragh would want to rest if he wants to stay on for the championship. The man has principles, like. As another poster pointed out, it would badly reek of 'keeping Darragh's place warm' for him. I thought he had a very good league campaign last year. It all depends on how tired the body is. But if he's to play at such demanding levels in the championship next year, he can't afford not to be mobile. Look, I could go on for ages about possibilities but I won't!! Four: Yes! Always!

Aidan O'Mahoney let the cat out of the bag in an interview during the week. Kerry trained through the Monaghan game and did very little ball work at all but mostly all physical work. That helps to explain why Monaghan got so close to us. I did'nt and don't rate them as good as Dublin etc.
