Lads and lassies, isnt it time that we acknowledged Tom Sullivan for what he is.
He always getting the unfashionable job. In 2000, that was shadowing Michael Donnelan ........ got two touches of the ball over 2 matches.
Same with Trevor Mortimor in 2006....... dirty job someone has to do it. Now landed in at fullback which is a specialist area.
A sublime footballer who sacrifices his game for the good of the team .......

Good point there Mickmack, he a class act defender but seldom gets to show off his football... He is a very commited man out on the pitch, if he has a job to do he just puts the head down, gets out there and does it with no questions asked... There is no task two great for this man.... No matter who he comes up against this year id have confidence in him to do a good job!!

i always felt himself and mike mac were as good as anything kerry have produced in the full back line over the years, you never feared for them once the team hit croker.

He is a good defender and a good man marker who is also deceptively quick..
He is a decent enough footballer too but Im sure if he had more football in him rather than outright defending we would see more of him attacking.
That is the main reason we dont see his attacking footballing ability come through!!
Stick to the "dirty work" Tom.. You are great at it!

When Moynihan was playing full back with Tom and Mike Mac in the corners ...... that must have been one of the best full back lines we ever had in Kerry!

Sorry Mickmack, but I actually have an O in my real name as well and it drives me nuts when people drop it... Men died to keep those Os!

Tom is a sublime player with exceptional skill. He could land the ball on a six pence as they say. Himself and Marc are unique in the level of skill and style they have as defenders. The funny thing about Tom though is that at other times of the year he looks like he's not bothered at all and half trying. He gets caught for scores etc. Then when the serious stuff starts he's top notch.

People who 'took the soup' during the famine lost the O' from their name. Any family who has O' before their surname definitely isn't going to abbreviate it away (and especially not in Kerry)

Good call Tom O'Sullivan is probably one of the top three corner backs in the country.... I say corner backs because thats what he is , not a full back.
There are a lot of good corner backs around at the moment. Kerry point of view Marc is outstanding, Joe Higgins from Laois, hard for me to admit but McMennamin is some operator. Also even though he didnt do that well the last day for Cork Micheal Shields will be a great player in years to come.

Kerrygold, ye seemed to thrive on the berries, donkeys and the fish so I'd say ye were better off than with the watery soup.

Anyway, that's enough about the famine... (although we know a thing or two about a football famine)
Mickmack you would be correct in a way, the defenders never get much praise for what they do. They will always be blamed for the ones they missed rather than the times they saved the teams arse.

Tell me how Barry Owens got an all star ahead of Tom last year?
Class defender, one of the quickest players on the panel too (second only to Sean Sullivan I believe). As animal said when its gets to the serious stuff thats when Tom gets going. He definately doesnt seem too interested in league games and early rounds of Munster.
It'd have been much easier for Tom to pack it in after last years all ireland after 7 years in a row when Kerry were playing till last August at the earliest. I think he knew that he was needed badly especially with Mike Mc & Seamus retired. Hopefully he can finish up with a 4th all ireland and the all star he was robbed of last year too.

I wouldn't worry about the All Stars. Plenty of players have been wronged over the years with regards to them and I know of one fella with a couple who shouldn't have got any.

And I almost forgot the few pucks he had at Fionnan Murray in the 02 semi. Would make the Hall of Fame for that in my book!

Met Tom in Havana's after the replay against Cork last year (the bus must have left without him too), a few of the Cork players were at a table nearby with the Munster trophy. When he saw them he got fairly cross "do you see those f***ers we'll meet them again and they wont be so smart". He was bulling, I was delighted to see he was so pissed off and was looking ahead already. I went back to the lads I was drinking with and told them we were going to win the All-Ireland.

Tom is some operator. He was close to Mike Mac and could have walked away too but didn't. Some thing tells me he has a great year ahead. Barry Owens/Ryan Mc Miniman wouldn't lace his boots. Switced on and fired up give me O Sullivan any day. Good to keep managers on their toe too? ? You need a bit of that as well.

Well.......... seven years after he shawowed Michael Donnellan........ Tom slips into the full back position without any fuss. Nobody has done too much damage to him yet.
Some operator

tom was born for big time games in croker,as a border boy, guess how much he is going to relish playing cork in an all-ireland final in croker,
