Just thought I'd start a thread to recognize the heroic and unmeasurable contribution by Padraig Reidy and in particular Seamus Scanlon.
Again, I thought Scanlon had a super performance yesterday. Also contributed a well deserved pint in the final. I think he was our most influential player against Dublin and won alot of ball in the middle of the park.
Reidy also tied Masters up in a straight jacket. And looks like a tigerish defender for the future. I think these players are due their deserved recognition because of the criticism they faced earlier in the season.
Well done lads and Thank You for the occassion.

Yes, great to think that if the worst comes to the worst and Darragh retires we've got a decent pairing in Scanlon and Tommy Griffin.

ya that midfield would still be as good as any around.Brian Sheehan is also a good midfield prospect for the future.

I'll hold up my hand and say that I've been critical of Scanlon over the last couple of years. However he has shown for a few games on the trot at this stage at the highest level that he is up there with anyone and fully deserved his starting position on all Ireland final day yesterday. His work rate is fantastic and twas great to see him land that point yesterday. Well done Seamus.
Paddy Reidy, and Killian Young have done what we thought wasn't possible, they've allowed Kerry to seamlessly move on to post McCarthy/Moynihan/Fitzmaurice era. I'm fully confident that as time progresses that corner forwards will not be happy at seeing Reidy as their marker.

Well done to seamus and padraig!Thought the critisism they were getting earlier on in the year was unfair but they proved alot of people wrong and well done to them.Great future for kerry football!

Scanlon was very very good and got on the ball an unreal amount of times. Still a young guy who with a bit more work will become a serious player for Kerry.

Scanlon did very well yesterday. It was probably the best game that he's ever played in. Reidy was also very solid and a great prospect for future glory.

The two men who received the most criticisms this year on the board were incredible yesterday, and only for the Cork goal, Padraig Reidy was almost man of the match.
I've been happy with Seamus Scanlon in midfield and believe Pat was spot on in sticking with him.
There can be no debates, these are two trojan workhorses.

Fair play to Jack O'Shea. In his article in The Times he predicted that Kerry would win by 6 or 7 and that of the four midfielders on display, Seamus Scanlon would handle the ball more than the other three. Laughed when I read it but in retrospect hats off to Jacko

What Jacko also said which was spot on (& I also heard a few people after the match claim this as their own insight) was that Cork don't improve after the Munster Final whereas in early July we are only starting the run up to the AIFinal. Again that insight was amazingly accurate. Apart from the obvious jitters in the Cork team (did anyone else see how poor their shooting wsa in the pre-match warm up!!!) they seemed like rabbits caught in the headlights - they seemed amazed that the match wasn't going to plan and seemed clueless as to what to do ! As long as any Nemoman is in charge I don't think we have anything to fear from Cork - that short passing in a pitch the size of Croke Park is crazy. Fine in a County SF match against Clonakilty but shag all good at the business end of the Summer in Dublin.
BTW congrats especially to Scanlon - saw him play with the Gooch against Clare in the 2002(?) U21 Munster F and he was the outstanding player on the pitch. Remembering the fiasco in 2003 V Tyrone he was one of the few players to get stuck in that day so I'm not surprised he finally came good. Reidy, Darren, Paul O' C, Killian Y were all stars of the 2004 Minor team along with Luke Quinn - where is Luke? Can we expect him to break through as well?

Not always his biggest fan, but hats off to Scan, if he could just improve his foot passing he would be immense

I said before the Monaghan game that Scanlon deserved his place on the basis of how he played in the League (and got the face bitten off me for it ;D ) -it feels good to be right.
Reidy has worked himself well into his place and played a blinder yesterday.
Well done both!

He was fantastic this year.. at times he totally outshone Dara.. Who says Nicholas Murphy is a better player than Dara?? Scanlon is a better player than Murphy anyday.

Fair play to both of them. Had huge faith in Reidy even when people were calling for his head after the 1/4 final...he did the business...
As for seamus, he out-did all of our expectations..even the most optimistic of us!

Reidy is better at 20 than Tomas and Marc were at 20.
Scanlan was a revelation.
Great guts shown by the management.

Ya scanlan has come in to his own again and the fact the seniors made him daraghs number two will give his confidence a huge boost for any player to play with a player they looked up to growing up must feel great.. Reidy has 5 players around him we all admire, so they should continue to grow with the talent they have as team mates

Agree with a lot of comments. Saw Seamus play club football and wondered what the hell the kerry lads were at in drafting him to the panel. Saw him play a League game against Tyrone in Tralee a couple of years ago and still thought...what the hell are they playing at. In the fairness though...and I apologise to Seamus...he was the most improved player on the Kerry panel this year...even his passing was sublime and to top it off with a fine point in the final. Well done Seamus...onwards and upwards. Now I know what the hell the Kerry lads were doing. As for Reidy... he reminds me so much of Mike Mac... let them have the ball and then keep them out of harms way... he is like a leech... well done lads!

But fully agree on the managment having guts. Said this already in an earlier post and I hope to see the trend continue,

during the golden years '75 to '86 we always seemed to have about 16 or 17 players fighting for 1 to 15.During this golden years spell we have at the moment about 21 players good enough to play for kerry with a whole new generation of players waiting to make an impact and get on the panel,it argues well for the immediate future.ie,next 5 to 6 years.

yeah Reidy deserves great credit when u consider that before the Dublin game, most were amazed that Reidy kept his place. he shackled Vaughan and followed up with a similiar performance in the final.
if scanlon can sharpen up on his shooting over the winter he will be a bigger asset next year.
Top marks to Pat O'Shea and his selectors for keeping faith in the duo against popular opinion
