Mickey Harte has sought and got a two year extention to his one remaining year on his existing 3 year term to give him a further three years in the tyrone hot seat and bring him up to eight years in total.
mickey abviously feels theres another all-ireland in this team,it will be interesting to see if he can replace the canavan factor and to what level if any brian mc guigan can recover too,and also to see how much dooher has left in the tank.
you'd imagine dooher,mc guigan and o neill will be central and crucial to another asualt on sam maguire, its an interesting developement as harte hinted at retiring last year.
we might yet get to have a cut at a good tyrone team again.

Very strange. I think it is a very poor move by the county board. Harte has been there a long time now and as Jack O'Connor says you need a new voice every so often to reignite the hunger (unless you are Cody or Ferguson at Man Utd). Also, in my view there has to be serious questions asked about the training Tyrone have been doing for the last few years with the injuries they have racked up. In the same period Kerry are yet to pick up a muscular injury of any note or a serious knee or ankle injury. We have only had a few sprained ankles, shoulder bruises, niggly backs and Darragh's small break in '04. It really is a phenomenal achievement as is the consistent level of performance while Tyrone have been very hit and miss. Granted the Tyrone club scene does not help but surely it is up to the county manager to sort that out with the chairman.

Well, the two Ulster giants have sent out a strong message the week before the All Ireland.....we fully intend being there again.
Small bit surprised by the Armagh appointment - but then if your U21 manager is doing well, he deserves a shot - at least that's the theory most county boards apply.
Micky getting a new three year deal is not surprising to say the least. Seamus, who's to say he isn't a Cody or a Ferguson? The level of success he has had at minor, U21 and senior with the majority of that team is incredible.

I'm happy enough, maybe a change to some of the backroom wouldn't do any harm. I don't think the training is completely to blame, more a case of bad luck and the club game culture we seem to have...though it's an interesting point. It just shows how things are perceived, after 05 the big thing was how Tyrone's training was great blah blah. There were rumours that Martin McElkennon (the Monaghan trainer this year) might come on board, which would be potentially a great move. I wish the niggly hamstring injuries to Stevie O'Neill would get sorted out.

Now ye know what we went through waiting 11 long years just to get into a final. When ye re-appeared on the scene ye thought ye were there forever more. Tyrone & Armagh must be doing something wrong with regards to training methods because Kerry & Cork play more matches than them but don't have a quarter of the niggly/ongoing injuries incurred by both counties.

It appears from todays papers that there is a sever split in the Armagh camp over the new appointment as manager. McGeenney and a few of the big name players wanted Gormley there.

When ye re-appeared on the scene ye thought ye were there forever more. I didn't think that personally and I don't know really anyone who did. People probably thought that the current team would have a good run which is understandable with the team we had. It's not like anyones really retired apart from Canavan (big loss still though), the team is still there. The reason Tyrone have had two bad seasons is not because it's a new team now and we had "thought we were there forever more." There's a pretty big difference in the club culture in Tyrone/Kerry which needs to be taken into account for injuries as well. For instance two Tyrone players had their jaws broken after the Fermanagh game this year, a fringe Tyrone player Paul Quinn collapsed at half time at the weekend after a heavy challenge, Brian McGuigan's career was nearly ended. There's others that I can't think of right now. The training could be a part of it, but it's not the only reason.

I heard McGeeney on the radio last night. The new man that is appointed is from his own club yet McGeeney went on for ages about how terrible it was the Grimley was overlooked. Don't think he will be too popular within his own club. It strikes me that the players wanted a continuation of Big Joe's work/methods by his assistant of many years (Grimley). The county board obviously decided they wanted a clean break to freshen things up. Only time will tell.

The county board are making a clear statement - Joe's gang won't dictate how we run the show.....many of these players who haven't agreed with the new apointment are those who went behind the backs of of Brian McAlinden and Brian Canavan and created their own team tactics for games including the Kerry All Ireland semi final!!
