Venessa McGarry, the wife of Kilkenny goalkeeper, James McGarry, died yesterday in a car crash in Kilkenny. Their 10 year old son was also injured in the crash. Condolences to James McGarry and all her family.
The GAA have decided to postpone this weekends hurling 1/4 finals as a mark of respect.
Should put everything into perspective for the rest of the summer and beyond.

Agreed and thank God they called off ALL the games this weekend, if they went ahead and played them it would've been scandalous

At least the GAA saw sense this time and made the right decision. Very sad.

The right decision was made to postpone the games. The GAA prides itself on community and the right thing was done. Sympathies to the McGarry family.

Condolences to all those families who lost someone dear to them on Thursday.Glad to see the GAA making the decision to postpone the games. The families will appreciate this long after the media hype dies down as they try to return to some semblance of normal life. I agree with Buck that its only a game but it's the little things that make you go on when you lose someone.

It was very emotional today. The young lad was crying his eyes out and for Shefflin to say they'd lift the trophy together was superb.

two days after the funeral james and his son walked into the kilkenny dressing room and spoke,he asked the lads to go on and win the all-ireland for vanessa.
kilkenny hurled with passion and hunger yesterday, after the game on radio tommy walshe said, if you have heart and commitment you wont be found wanting.
yesterday was all about the big family that the kilkenny hurling community is about, one for all and all for one.

What a day for the Kilkenny hurling family. The young lad brought a tear to my eye as he helped lift the cup. Great scene and thoroughly moving

It was a very emotional and sad situation looking at those poor people. It reminded me of the game a few years ago where a little fella with a terminal illness got to march around croker with the Garda Band. They even had a little Garda Uniform for him. It would have brought a tear to a stone.

Was there that day Tabbie - very moving, makes u count your lucky stars. We all get caught up with the trivial stuff its only when we're confronted with scenes like yesterday's that we put things in perspective.
