Bad loss for Kerry - they look tired in the second half and appeared to have no hunger - where was the tackling in the backline? Ref made some real poor decision. Walsh is some player - fantastic points...

Pity. Kerry played some fantastic football. Barry John scored some class points. Its a killer to score 17 points and be defeated.

Barry John is some player.....we lacked direction in the second half, very poor passing, and we made no change until three minutes before the end of the game which was very surprising for the management.....and they stood a mile off their men in the second half.

Hard luck to the Kerry lads. I must say, I was very impressed with the sheer skill, the flowing style of football and the beautiful execution of scores on display today. It was a fabulous game to watch. Though Kerry looked pretty ragged in the last ten minutes, one can't help but think if things could have been different if changes had been made earlier on. I was really impressed with a few players: Both Barry John Walsh and Eoin Kennedy look like they have great futures ahead of them. Colm Ó Muircheartaigh seemed to have had an impact on the game when he came on - maybe he should have been introduced sooner? Antaine Ó Gríofa and your man Conroy were tremendous for Galway as was Tommy Walsh from Renvyle (what a day to be the first Renvyle man ever to play in Croke Park - and score a goal at that!). Colm O'Rourke rightly pointed out that Galway were in no hurry to get balls into the net in the 2nd half and were quite content to do the sensible thing and fist three points over the bar. Even though we lost today, we lost to a very good Galway side. I have no doubt that we will see the likes of Kennedy, Walsh, Ó Muircheartaigh, JB Spillane and others gracing Croke Park in years to come.

Very hard luck for the minors. I was at the game and I must say that they didn't deserve to lose. The two goals that they conceeded before half time were a blow.
Barry John and Eoin Kennedy were excellent. Their point taking was second to none. Barry John in particular had a great game and was certainly my man of the match.
What let them down though was a little bit of indicipline both in fouling and passing. Their passing was a little lax at times which gave Galway easy turnover. I thought there was a goal in Kerry towards the end but not to be.

Tabbyie, not meaning to go on a 'what if' rant, but would you not agree that the game could have been turned around if there were more shrewd changes made earlier on?

I agree. Colm Ó Muircheartaigh should have been introduced just after half time. It would have shorn up the midfield a bit. JB Spillane switched wings early in the first half and this gave Kerry more momentum.
However, there was a very strong breeze there which favoured Kerry in the first half. In the second half even against the breeze they still were able to out a few scores away.
It just wasn't their day but there are bigger and better things to come for some of the players.

Very unlucky the point kicking from long range was as good as you'll see from any team

A great Game. Fair play to Galway I wish them well.
From a Kerry point of view it was pleasing to see the return of long range score taking. 17
scores and one wide is testiment to their skill level. Goals win games but to be fair this is one
we should not have lost. Plenty talent coming through in that team and Id say in a decade
they will have a fair haul of Celtic Crosses.

On average, two to three minors max from one team make the cut in the long term on a senior team.....

This team could be different ASA, we'll see but I reckon six or seven will make it at senior level.

On average, two to three minors max from one team make the cut in the long term on a senior team..... Over the next 3 - 5 years we will see plenty of the current Kerry senior team retiring. So there will be lots more spaces for new blood in the panel than there has been for the past 10 years or so. I think the past three minor teams (05 - 07) will produce quite a few players for the panel

An excellent game of football - one of the best we're likely to see this year. To lose after scoring 17 points and having only one wide is a sign of how good this game was. Galway's midfield won it for them along with that corner forward, Reddington who I thought was different class.
Barry John is some prospect alright, I can see Tommy and Barry John on the kerry senior team in 2010.

hard luck to the minors, its hard to lose a game after scoring 17 points, the two goals were killer blows at the end of the day.9 out of 10 times you will always get pure football between galway and kerry, its always a joy to watch.good luck to galway in the final.
as regards players coming through,it will be central characters we will looking for, lads with the heart to replace players like seamus, maurice, eamonn, darragh, mike mack, cinneade etc.Theres enough of the rest of the jigsaw in place.
we would really want to get the u21's sorted out for next year to harvest the work done at minor level over the past few seasons,i'd imagine john kennedy will want to move forward with these players,if not we should be looking for a big name character to come and take the bull by the horns, they could do a lot worse than reappointing paidi.
we saw yesterday the fruits of u21 success with the cork footballers, its the only way to go.

Agree Kerrygold, they could do worse than appointing Paidi but they couldn't do better than appointing John Kennedy. I hope he gets it as we've messed about at the U21 grade for the past two years and its time to move on.

The red-headed midfielder - was it Johnny Buckley? Thought he started the second half well enough. Antaine Ó Gríofa was nowhere to be seen for a while. But when Conroy took control for Galway in the middle of the field, that was him out of it again for huge spells. I wouldn't write him off though.

Thought it was a very naive performance at times. The wing back Conway was doing devilment all day. Sideline too slow to react to it. Jamie Doolan was very poor they should have thrown on a wing back at wing forward or something with a bit of defensive know how to quieten Conway the wing back.
Though the other corner forward O'Sullivan was very poor brought nothing to the forward line.
