Paudie OShea was being interviewed on the radio one evening last week . They were talking about the best games he had played in . He was asked did he consider the '77 semi final to be the greatest game of all time and in true Kerry fashion he replied " I would never consider a game that Kerry were beaten in to be a great game ".

Just to show we Dubs like fair play.....
At least Fitzy had the wind behind him! What about Dublin's fight-back against the elements? I think that goal by Vinny deserved alot more credit than it got

I'll never forget Vinny coming on that day . Supersub. He was a man possessed , took the game by the scruff of the neck but of course we had our own supersub.... I was sitting next to the players exit tunnell and watched Tommy Carr leaving the pitch ,there were veins as big as hose pipes popping in his head .... totally lost the plot.

And until the day I die, I will swear that Carr shouted - "You're a has been.....You're an f**kin has been" at Maurice. I won't say where I was sitting, but it was practically on top of Tommy and I have my reasons to believe that's what he said. Watch the video of that point and you'll see Tommy talking at Maurice, looking away, and then shouting at him again.....and then repeat what I've said above to match the movements of his head.....
The atmosphere in Thurles that night was something to behold.....even Dublin fans were singing the praises of Maurice all night in Hayes hotel.
I watched that game, and the replay a few times - Vinnys goal was a cracker, but Declan didn't have a great view of him coming through and was late in going for the dive.....Johnny Crowley's performance in the replay was something else if my memory still serves me.....

Nobody was going to stop Vinny scoring that day . You're spot on about the replay, Johnny Crowley scored 2 goals and it was one of his finest performances in the green and gold. Another everlasting memory from the replay was Seamus shouldering Vinny over the sideline . Game ,set and match. Unbelievable heart by both teams in both games.

Crowley killed us in both games, he was savage, the build & pace of him, allied to deadly finishing. One thing I remember was how that team got into the habit of first-half whirlwind efforts, with chance after chance being missed when it was easier to score. I had been chatting with a great GAA fan from Delvin in Hayes before the game, he said as I left, "It's bad news for the GAA if Kerry beat ye easy". I was thinking about that when Kerry were winning by 8 or 9 in the 2nd half, so the fightback really made/saved the greatness of the tie overall, as did Maurice's wonder-kick. I went down the night before, found this mad guest-house near the station, only by having asked at another place. This place had purple & red Spanish-style sgutters on the windows, and the whole place was muti-coloured like some kind of Woodstock hippy-house! The night before the match a container was set up in the square and they held the Miss Macra na Feirme competition. The slaggin from the Dubs was fierce Next day I was in Hayes' from 10 (was a saturday), armed with the Sunday paper, got chattin to the Westmeath fella, him saying he'd die happy if only Westmeath could win Leinster once and have a big day out like this (wish I'd met him 3 years later). As the place filled up, the singing/chanting started. There were families from South/West Kerry who had travelled 4 hours to get there - not a patch on what the poor Dubs had to do Little kids running around and being cheeky to big, rough lads clad in blue, and never a harsh word - you could only watch in bemusement & wonder After the game sometime that night I was found on the stairs inside Hayes by some friend of a friend who got me home. I was in Wexford for the replay, the girlfriend had booked it ages before, a mystery trip, I was praying she was bringing me to Cashel

And the song of the day had to be "Who let the Dubs out, who, who who"! Has to go down as one of the magical days in the Kerry/Dub rivalry..

Had to be one of the greatest weekends of all time!! Never forget the feeling when Maurice put it over....there was tears in my eyes standing behind the goal...the place went mental when the ball came over the bar at us!! What a night that night......

I still can't believe that Donnelan's run got number 1. Lyster surely rigged the voting or something!
