I'd better put this email in point format.
1. Gutted yesterday, bitterly disappointed today, but nobody died & we'll be back. Well done to Tyrone - they were the better team and deserved their success.
2. Some of the posts already made here have clearly been placed just to stir it up. It might be time to evict some habitual abusers from this forum.
3. Fair play to Ger O'Keeffe yesterday. He spoke for all true Kerry supporters when he congratulated Tyrone on their success and accepted the defeat with the grace that we all aspire to.
4. The speech by Brian Dooher was very good, but I'd have preferred if he didn't do the "3 cheers for Kerry"
5. I think that it was a mistake not to play the quarter finals of the county chamionship 3 weeks ago. The 4 week break since the semis did as much harm as did the poor opposition that day.

Well then Dazarooni, can I suggest you don't rise to what are , as moth correctly points out, clearly placed mails to stir things up. None of the Kerry people I spoke to after the game or since had anything critical of Tyrone to say...and I mean that 100%. In fact the overwhelming response and repeated in exactly the same words by most people was 'the better team won'. So get on and enjoy it. We have a right to try and figure out from our point of view what went 'wrong' ...even though Tyrone were clearly the better team, we,like everyone else, have to believe we can improve or correct certain things which will enable us to win the next time we meet. We'll cry into our beer for another while and then start to get it together again. Not everyone on here claiming to be a kerry supporter is actually one...as well as contributors from other counties who let on to be from Kerry for the purpose of making us appear in a certain light, we also have a large 'support' base who only ever appear for one game in the year, were probably attending their first Kerry game of the year yesterday (I know I was sitting in front of one yesterday..was wondering where John Crowley was!..and proceeded to slag every Kerry player in very abusive terms for last 15 mins of game). Having said that, its been said before that we see ourselves reflected in how we play football. In other words, the game has an overwhelming emotional grip on us and its inevitable, we will react emotionally when things go wrong as well as when they go right. So get on with the celebrating and we'll get on with our recovery...no doubt we'll meet again but for now, no question, Tyrone are the best team in the land.

I am not stirring anything up. I said my comments were aimed at Kerry34. What he is saying is hilarious. I also said that most of you are decent gaels, which you are, but it's individuals like Kerry34 that need a good dressing down.

Well here, it is, the difficult post that must be done. Congratulations to Tyrone, Ireland's best team on Sunday. Great match, but Kerry will prosper once more!
My prediction was way off the mark, all abuse for that directed here at will! ;-)
I do have to say that it was very disappointing that Canavan's last act in a Tyrone jersey was to punch Gooch, he was much better than that and there was no call.
Kerry just weren't mentally prepared to handle the intensity that Tyrone reached after the first twenty minutes, there's no doubt about it.
But there'll be other days for questioning why or great heroes were left on the pitch for so long, but for now, it's well done to Ireland's best team.

Congratulations to Tyrone on winning yesterday. Sorry for the kingdom boys. It was definately an exciting game to watch. Here were my comments on the game.
Just to make a couple of quick observations from over here. Tyrone looked like a team possessed yesterday. It was very hard for any team to beat them. They just never stopped running! I would like to say also that I'm not sure if surrounding a player who is in possission of a football is the way we should be going with our football in the future! I know that this is very controvensial in Ireland, but it does take away from the open game. Don't hang me yet!
Kerry kept kicking in that high ball in the second half and was wondering why they stayed with it, when it was not working. Just some food for thought from over here.
Good luck to Tyrone.
Kerry we know you will be back.

look.we cant complain.we were beaten by the better team on the day. a great game of ball.disappointed to come out on the losing end but thats the way the mop flops.i've no doubts we'll be back in the race with the best next year. all credit to jack and the lads for the last TWO years of great football. ard fhir, na haon diabhail duine doibh.
on another note .dazarooni.do the rest of your countymen a favour and put a sock in it. you're giving them a bad winner image. why dont you just enjoy your victory. quietly. if you have some beef with some particular member of this forum send them a personal message coz nobody likes an abusive arrogant winner. there a word -magnanamous- spend a few minutes looking at it , then try to put it into practice.for all our sakes.

Great feeling, waking up as All Ireland Champs this morning. Good night in Dublin last night and I'm looking forward to watch the game on TV. Wasn't actually that confident going into the game but Tyrone were the better side. For the first 20 minutes Kerry were playing first time ball into their forwards and causing us bother. We then lifted the intensity out the field and prevented the early ball. Kerry were forced across the field on a number of occasions and in truth Tyrone were the much better side. Well worth the victory.
Gooch is a terrific player, geat balance very accurate, but the only real threat that Kerry possessed up front. Was just seated above the Canal goal and seen the incident with Gooch, Ricey and the the clown we have in goals develop. Basically what happened was that Gooch was in around the small square and looking to make runs to the wing. McConnell was out about the edge of the square. Gooch was standing behind McConnell looking to make a run and McConnell put both his arms out as if to keep Gooch behind him or at least to force Cooper wider. Must have been some contact with Coopers eye but there was certainly no elbows, nor fists involved and the umpire saw everything.
Anyway off to Omagh now to welcome the lads home. I'll let you boys analyise Kerrys performance but certainly the games against Armagh and Dublin really helped us.

Oh my God absolutely gutted, fair play to Tyrone, should have won by more to be honest. The way Kerry played though really annoyed me, they lost the game between the 2 45's, how many times did they lose possesion there? All the players carried the ball into tackles rather than trying to pass it in, it's a stupid tactic. When they had time to pass it, they didn't then when under pressure, hoofed in stupid high balls making heroes out of Tyrone full back line. I really felt sorry for Gooch, you could see him, he was so frustrated and what Canavan did to him, was ridiculous, his last act of his great career, sad, at least Gooch flaked him back.
I think the reason we were all so confident was because we actually thought this Kerry team was a lot better than we imagined. The signs were there aswell if we looked hard enough, we've been relying on Gooch way too much all season. One of the main reasons they couldn't get the ball into him was coz Gormley was standing in front of him, with DOS down at our half back line, Jack should have spotted that. The team is too old aswell and it showed yesterday. I'd say Paidi had a little smile yesterday and probably felt vindicated, we didn't really learn from '03 atall. How the hell did Mayo beat them last year? We'll be back and hopefully Jack will be too.

I am totally gutted but i want to try and put my thoughts on paper to see how we can improve. Spoke to a couple of the players in know well last nite and the following was the general view from all concerned.
1. Tactics - I posted 2 weeks ago that Brosnan would be 14, marc would pick up McGuigan and DOS would drop deep. This worked for the first 10 minutes but after that it was totally ineffective and should have been changed.
2. Kerry played with no half forward line and they all dropped deep to defend. This worked fine in defence but when kerry won the ball in their defence they had no outlet up the field as the full forward line was too far away. This forced them to play the ball across the field until one player tried to break the tackle and got dispossed. One player in the half back line told me that everytime he got the ball he looked up the field and all he saw was 4 or 5 tyrone jersies and gooch and cinneide standing on the 14 which was too far away. Kerry turned over 13 balls between their 45 and midfield. That is the stat that lost us the game, end of story.
3. Kerry won midfield. Am i the only person who thought kirby played well??
4. DOS killed us by coming so deep and trying to beat tryone on his one. He played headlessly and Conor Gormley just let him off and tracked back to stand in front of Gooch. We knew they would do this if we let them as this was mentioned several times on this forum.
5. High ball did not work as a result of poor high ball going in (5 balls were kicked in with poor left leg deliveries that favoured the backs).
How we could have won the game:
1. Played with 2 half forwards to give an outlet for our backs. Ideally Brosnan and DOS who could have made runs to the wings and collected the balls before delivering it in PROPERLY to the men inside.
2. Played proper low ball into our full forward line and possibly replaced Cinneide with MFR or Sheehan early. Gooch looked deadly when he got good low ball but it was obvious that Tyrone were ready for the high ball and coped very well.
3. Supported our forwards more. Galvin and Hasset in my opinion got caught up in the hype about working back and defence and were too shagged to support our forwards.
4. Thought about Kerry instead of worrying about tyrone. We seemed to be obcessed about nullifying the tyrone threat and forgot about what kerry is all about. We were trying to break tackles, match them phsyically and have a better work rate rather than using the fact that we are more natural footballers, move the ball quicker and play to our strengths. Instead we played like a child who had found a new toy ( the high ball from september 04 final) and did'nt want to let it go.
I believe that Jack and co learned a harsh lesson but i would still love him to stay on and put it right in 2006. He is the man to do it.

Whats to be said has already been said by all the intelligent posters already . Hats off to Tyrone on a well deserved victory. We had no match for their intensity or teamwork . There were a few incidences that I thought we got shafted on by the ref, but that will happen in any game and on another day it could have went our way . Paul Galvin should have been red carded for the dangerous high tackle on Dooher , and he got away with it . Congratulations Tyrone , Enjoy it . Now its time for us to regroup and give it another lash next year . Hopefully with Jack and Pat at the helm.

First off. Well done Tyrone. From my experience on Sunday, ye have an outstanding team, management and fans. Had no problems with anyone on that front. Ye are the team to beat next year.
On the bright side for us, its a blessing to have lost the favourites tag.
Somebody mentioned above that Kirby played well. I agree. Very consistent apart from that soft possession he lost to Cavanagh for the point. Gooch did well under the conditions and should still be one of the favourites for player of the year. Others played well in patches.
So the question is this: what made the difference for Tyrone. There is no doubt that Kerry have players in or around the calibre of Tyrone and Armagh, but why were we beaten so convincingly (12 scores). Was it lack of match practise or the Tyrone training method. Who knows?
From our own point, we tried playing the Tyrone game with the fluid half forward line, but I think we got tied up in knots doing it. As a result we ended up with no half forward line. Darren O Sullivan looked like a good link man when he came on. Lightning pace in fairness.
Before saying what we need to do next year what counts is which players and more importantly management stay on. With any luck a few of the older players and all of the management will stay on.

Gooch is a terrific player, geat balance very accurate, but the only real threat that Kerry possessed up front. ] phpearse has put a finger on it with this comment i think this was the essential difference. Tyrone had six forwards threatening to score Kerry had only Gooch and to a lesser extent Brosnan. Anyway well done Tyrone a fantastic team

Beaten by a better team on the day.
We lost this game in the last ten minutes of the first half and because our half forward line were non existant as they played way too deep.
Jack o connor is not entirely blameless he tried to build his team around declan o sullivan. He can only play at half forward. That is brosnan's best position. Brosnan is better therefore declan should of been a sub. He plays like a back and was dispossesed 10 times!!! on sunday.
O cinneide (only for the goal) and hassett were shocking and are not up to it at this level anymore im sorry to say.
Harsh but true. Let the rebuilding begin.

I agree with you there kingdomkerry on that one,i felt that Jack tried two accommodate Declan all summer.I dont think the means justifed the end result.I felt that mfr was starting to come back to form with the mayo match when he was shafted again. If we had mfr playing well in the other corner he would have a decoy for gooch. The loss of mfr in my opinion weakend the whole kerry forward set up.We need to get back to basic kerry values where we have six forwards playing as forwards with the only purpose of scoring. The lack of an attacking half forward line crucified us.

Seamus, Did any of your mates off the team intimate whether they'd like Jack for another term? It seemed to me that Kerry slowed the game down after the goal, and it seems from comments from joc etc that they changed their style after 10 mins and he couldn't explain why, now i Know tyrone picked it up but kerry I think allowed them to. It was the goal and point before half time that rewarded Tyrone for their first half endeavours, until then whilst being under pressure it was tit for tat with the Kerry goal making up for some poor turnovers by Kerry. I was worried at half time and hoped we would do our normal bust in the 2nd half after a chat with jack, but we didn't really get out of the blocks again, Tyrone kept on the pressure. The game will bring lads on again and hopefully we meet them next year whilst the memory is fresh. Was very impressed with Darren O Sullivan, him reidy, star, kelly etc can only benefit from being part of the setup this year.

Yeah, well there are reasons why we started playing with the type of half-forward line we have now and those reasons haven't gone away. If Jack hadn't moved with the times, he'd be criticised too. I'd agree regarding the high ball... not so much that we continued using it but that if that was our ploy, we needed to bring on Donaghy or Quirke at full forward, if only to try and make the ball stick when it went in there. We were only 3 pts behind at the end...you can look at that in a glass half full or glass half empty way. It could have been more but it could also have been less. If brosnan had got a goal from a fantastic fisted effort on Dara O'Cs miss-hit 45 etc. but in the end we were beaten by a better team. We've got to improve further. We're going to need the older players for sometime yet.Its getting the most out of them in the best positions which will be key in my opinion.

Just a few comments from Sunday:
1. Well done to the Tyrone team. They are a great team who work tremendously hard for each other. They are totally committed to the cause and go into every tackle as if their life depended on it. They have some great players amongst them, namely mulligan, mcguigan, dooher, cavanagh, mcmenamin and a superb manager. They fully deserve their victory and are worthy All-Ireland Champions.
2. I feel very sorry for the Kerry players. They give their all. The commitment these days is unreal and I hope that they don’t get a hard time over the coming weeks. Feel very sorry for Seamus Moynihan. It was a sad sight to see him standing on the standline for the last 5 minutes.
3. I want to highlight an attitude I witnessed during the game on Sunday. I was sitting in the Hogan Stand lower for the game, surrounded by tyrone fans. I must say they really got to me at times. I was sitting beside a woman who continually jibed me every time Tyrone scored. Tyrone would kick a point and she would cheer in my face and make a point of doing it and then jeer every time Kerry kicked a wide It is a very narrow minded attitude which I found very prevalent around me. I mean I would genuinely clap for an outstanding Tyrone scores, for instance Mulligans fisted effort in second half was a great score but the Tyrone fans around me would never applaud a Gooch score. The abuse they gave him when he was down in the first half was sickening. This attitude is not good for the game. They showed a complete lack of sportsmanship. Now I must say other people I talked to met some lovely Tyrone people during the game who were very sporting. I am sure this is the minority but this attitude that I witnessed is not good for the game and I just want to highlight it.
4. I have lost a lot of respect for Peter Canavan. I regarded him very highly up to a few years ago. However he upset me with his antics against Kerry in 2003 and again on Sunday. I am not questioning his undoubted footballing class, just his attitude to the game. His lunge on the Gooch at the end of the game was disgusting for a man who is a hero to many. It wudnt even have been a fair tackle on the rugby field, as he held onto Gooch’s legs so Gooch could not get up. The great heroes of GAA, Mikey Sheehy, Mauice Fitzgearld, Colm Cooper, Padraic Joyce, Sean Og O’Halpin, DJCarey, you would never see them carrying out an act like that. I get the feeling Canavan has an attitude of do anything to win, even if it means acts of thuggery like that. I don’t agee with it. He is not a good role model for the game.
5. The Kerry tactics – It has all been said on this forum already but I just want to mention a few things. It was just so frustrating looking at Kerry passing the ball latterly across the back and giving away sloppy ball. Every time they looked up the full forward line was too far away. Gooch would run away from the ball looking for the long diagonal pass but this ball was too hard to play with the pressure they were under. The full forward line would have been better coming out looking for low ball. I was hoping Darren O’Sullivan would have been brought on at half time. He comes out to the wing looking for the ball and that’s what we needed. Guys with pace isolated on one-on-one situations, that what was required. Mike Frank was a disappointment. His kicks weren’t even reaching the goals. We badly needed the mike frank of old on Sunday.
6. I must complement Brian Dooher on a fantastic speech that was charged with emotion. I found it very moving.
7. I hope Jack o Connor and Pat Flanagan stay with the team. They have done trojan work in the last two years. It didn’t come off on Sunday but I have no doubt that there will be better days ahead. If Jacko was to go it would be a step backwards. He will have learned a lot from the game on Sunday and he is the right man to motivate the players for next year.
8. During the Tyrone avalanche at the end, I envisaged a beautiful moment on the pitch. Gooch was running off when a little Tyrone kid stopped him in his tracks grabbing his hand. I don’t know what he was saying but Gooch stopped and had a few words with him. I could see the smile on the little kids face, he was beaming. He didn’t want to let Gooch go. Fair play to the Gooch. He is the outstanding player in GAA today. I hope we will see him grace Croke Park for many years to come.

Dara 'O Se's miss after Tomas's goal aswell was crucial, it was a realitvely easy one to score and he should have scored, if we had equalised at that stage, who know what would've happened, we would've had serious momentum. At that stage of the game it's thing like that make a huge difference, the free Canavan won in the corner aswell that O' Neill scored, that was deffo not a free and a crucial score. Canavan's score was inspiration aswell, MFR got one ball into his hands and he dropped it, straight up the field again. That's when the battles of the year stood to Tyrone, still sick.

Agree with most of the stuff written and I think most Kerry people are in general agreement that we were beaten by a better team and that we didnt have a second plan when the high ball wasnt working.
I feel that Declan Sullivan tired to prove himself too much by taking the ball into the tackle when he'd have been better off letting quick ball in. But we must also remember that he is only 21 and maybe the burden of captain was too much for him this year. Also I think Diarmuid Murphy let himself down with some aimless kick outs that cost vital scores.
While Tyrone were better than us on the day, Kerry made unforced errors that cost us the game. We'll be back again next year but probably will do so without 3 or 4 of the elder members of the team from yesterday. And with a new manager too I'd say by Jacks comments of TV yesterday.

I have to agree with point 2 of Seamus and point 4 of Jay as the reasons we lost the game. Basically that there were no options for anyone out the field to pass the ball to, it was so obvious watching the game. I think this has been a problem for a few years with this Kerry team. If you watch Kerry's full forward line in a game, they always seem to be behind their men and are rarely running out the field looking for the ball. Cinneide is particularly guilty of this, he did it once the whole game the last day and we scored a goal. The half backs and midfielders were delighted to see Darren O' Sullivan coming on, they could actaully see soemone looking for the ball when they looked up, it really is a simple game, you get the ball look up and give it to the person running for it. I think Kerry tried to over complicate things to try and beat Tyrone, rather than playing their own game.
Also, Jay, I have to agree with your comments about the Tyrone supporters, I didn't want to bring it up here, because it's been said so many times before, but there was a few around me that were just so ignorant, i had to bite my lip so many times. I would hate to think what would happen if we actually beat them, I wouldn't be surprised to get a slap coz that was the atmosphere around me.

Its a huge dissapointment to lose, but we can have no excuses.Tyrone were better all over the field and proved if proof was needed that they are a class football team. Just a few things that puzzled me watching the game: In the second half i lost count how many times Kerry players in particular Kirby and T O Sé were in possession around the middle of the field on the left hand side of the pitch as you are looking from the hill, had no option to pass the ball to,not one forward made an attempt to get onto the ball leaving the backs and midfielders with no option but to kick in a high aimless ball, something that was not a tactic as the forwards looked confused under the high ball and Tyrone won every break at the back. Chris Lawn caught two such balls cleanly and he was one of the smaller players on the field. Would Donaghy have been the man in there. I was delighted to see Darren O Sullivan come on he was exactly what we needed and tried his heart out,a man with a big future. On the other hand i could not see what Brian Sheehan had to offer coming on at such a crucial time when kerry needed a late goal surely someone with more experience would have been better. Kerry cant complain about Tyrone swarming tactics Kerry players struggled to round their men one on one and if tyrone were clustered together it was due to Kerry lads bunching and not keeping the game wide and open. I think Declan O Sullivan is wasted in the role he plays. When he was younger he was known for being a scoring machine with school and club, now he is a spoiler playing way too deep and not coming near to being an attacking option.Put him closer to goal to play as a proper forward and use him to take the burden off Cooper. How was Paul Galvin the last man back contesting a high ball with Mulligan for the Tyrone goal, where was the full back line, that is only basic defending and that goal was the difference in the end. Kerry will be back and I wouldnt agreee with some off the dark forecasts some people are predicting for us in the next few years. I hope Jack O Conner stays,he will have learned more from last Sunday than the rest of his two years put together. We have options on the bench to deal with any retirements.Who was talking about Darren O Sullivan before the Tyrone game for instance and if Tommy Griffen gets a clear injury free run next year he would make an ideal midfielder. We'll be back!

Hey Seamus,
Thanks for this post. This all makes sense to me-no half-forward line is right! Tomas O'Se looked like one of the biggest threats to the Tyrone defence and he is a half-back! Anyhow, this post explains the whole game for me.
thanks again Seamus
Hope Jack O'Connor stays on and maintain a Kerry style of football rather than worrying about how the other guys are going to play!
Up the kingdom
from a loyal kerry fan in Canada!

First of all Congrtas to Tyrone. The better team won.
In my view Gaelic Football and Hurling are super games for one simple reason...... the team with the better forwards always win and this was true on sunday too. Apart from Gooch and Brosnan we struggled up front.
I have no idea what happened Gooch but from the second he hit the deck the game seemed to turn in Tyrones favour.
I was on the Hill and it was terribly frustrating to see Chris Lawn winning high balls into the square with no one contesting. Oh to have Johnny Crowley at that point!
The Down minors showed how good Ulster Football is.
I fear that Kerry are in decline now.
Well done again Tyrone.

Well done again Tyrone. ur not in decline mick kin hell u made it to the final but as i said u need better competition to adapt, teams collapsing when u go 2 or 3 points ahead is doing u no favours at all
