Absolutely disgraceful stuff! It's a shame but no excuses!! He will surely have to be reported for that! Players of his standing have an extra responsibility to be a good influence to young impressionable kids!! If they see him getting away with it they will start copying!!!

Let's not go overboard on this one. Yes it was a terrible thing to do but i am sure he regretted it as soon as he did it. Let justice take its course. I am sure he will play no more football this summer and that is punishment enough for a guy who has been training all year for this month. Punishment will fit the crime - lets leave it at that and move on.

as long as it does fit the crime Seamus. The punishment for Riceys knees first lunge l;ast year wasn't fitting in teh end was it? Proper punishment in this case, if you ask me, would be for Forde to hang his boots up until the O'Byrne Cup next January.

Fair point about Ricey. I do think he will 'get time' though.

I think they'll throw the book at him, I can see a 6 month ban. Strange decision to show the replays of the incident on the big screen in Croke Pk, I thought they didnt show replays of stuff like that.

Not true. They usually edit out any dodgy incidents and referee mistakes.

There's no excuse for that sort of thing, O Rourke stated he had a nasty streak in him b4 the game which i cud't believe... i believe it now. if an average club player did it he'd be lookin at a year out... no exceptions, he has to be punished, not let off coz he's an exceptional talent

Forde has to put up with 10 times the abuse that Gooch does. It's impossible to turn the other cheek every time.

I didnt notice him getting too much abuse yesterday Jo to be honest. and there was a shot of him later rubbing his head. taunting the guy he stood on.
Are you serious Seamus. someone in croke park edits out incidents for the big screen in the ground?

For all inter county matches, the umpires should be referees (for example who referee senior championship in their own counties) and not friends of the ref. I'm sure this would help to combat the situation whereby a corner forward is getting pulled and dragged all over the place (or bitten/eye gouged in a certain defences case) and nothing is done about it.
Still doesnt excuse what Forde did though.

Ya, they put up the Toyota sponsorship of the big screen ad or the Indo ad whenever there is a major incident.

In fairness to RTE, they got a great camera angle on the stamp all the same.

I'm not trying to condone what Forde did, because he looked down and it was intended ! But in my opinion the incident was'nt as bad as it looked ! The slow motion on the TV makes it look a lot worse ! Forde did'nt mean to do any harm ! He was just acting petulent and taking his frustration out on the defender ! The defender was'nt hurt at all, blood was not even drawn ! If Forde had stamped on him with force (a la Clohessy in Paris 10 years ago) then he would have done a lot of damage ! It was a touch of Figo's headbutt the last night ! Innocuous enough ! In fairness to FIFA, they realised that Figo's incident was harmless and that it was not a bona fida head butt ! Forde should get a rap on the knuckles all right, but nothing major !

"Didnt mean to do any harm" steelfixer - he stood on a guys head.... If he doesnt get a lenghty ban I'd be shocked, I'm sure Nicky Brennan will be demanding it.

Steel.....whether he gets a lenghty ban (there is a case for not giving him one) or not, he stamped on a lads head. Now, to be fair, he's lucky. He was wearing the plastic adidas blade boots or one of those ilk, not the metal 40mls that the Claw wore in gay Paris.....

Agree with o rourke's comments. Was watching the tommy murphy cup final with wex and tipp last year. when tipp were on top near the end he totally lost his dicipline. class act not so good when its going against him though it seems

The slow motion looked awful but it probably wasnt that bad.......... the offaly lad would have been badly injured if it was a real stamp.
Colm O Rourke went on about it as if he had never heard of Colm Coyle. Give Mattie the probation act I say......... he is a forward............ the only forward that doesnt need protection is Peter Canavan and he is retired

Forde free to face Monaghan Wexford sharpshooter Mattie Forde 04 July 2006
Matty Forde will be free to line out against Monaghan in next weekend’s All-Ireland football qualifier, despite the threat of a lengthy ban hanging over him.
The Wexford star appeared to stamp on Offaly defender Shane Sullivan’s head during last Sunday’s Leinster football semi-final defeat at Croke Park, but won’t be punished until next Tuesday at the earliest as the Central Disciplinary Committee don’t meet until then.
The controversial incident was missed by Donegal referee Jimmy White and as a result, the CDC can now decide to use video evidence.
Meanwhile, Croke Park has admitted that replays of the incident shouldn’t have been shown on the big screens inside the ground. Spectators at the game were surprised when the incident was replayed twice and not surprisingly, Offaly fans in the 44,000 attendance were vocal in their disapproval of the fact that Forde had not been disciplined.
“It shouldn’t have been shown and it’s something that we will tighten up on,” said Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna.
“We try to keep the screen open as much as possible so the crowd can see the action and can watch replays. But in cases like this we don’t show replays.”

I think, in fairness to whoever was editing out the replays, that noone really saw the stamp in real time. The boys on RTE certainly didnt anyway. So his allowing it the first time was excusable. No excuse for the second showing though. I wonder was he in the bog draining the spuds?

The defender was'nt hurt at all, blood was not even drawn ! u dont have to draw blood to break someones neck, which forde could easily have done with his antics last wkend.

Agree with o rourke's comments. Was watching the nicky rackard cup final with wex and tipp last year. when tipp were on top near the end he totally lost his dicipline. class act not so good when its going against him though it seems Wexford and Tipp have slipped a bit in the hurling alright but they're not quite at Nicky Rackard Cup levels yet . Go easy on the Mattie Ford thing and let the process that's there deal with it lads. None of us have any idea whether he meant it or not, he's an amateur sportsman and he's as entitled to respect as two kerry footballers having a pint.

I have no doubt in my mind that he meant it. Absolutely none. Not that I needed it, but confirmation came later when he was taunting the guy by rubbing his head. he meant it alright and deserves a long rest from the game.

Like all good intercounty forwards these days he gets plenty of abuse and off the ball. I am not condoning his actions, they were totally out of order but ref's(AND MATCH OFFICALS) do need to protect good forwards. Gooch and Paul O Connor will get the usual abuse on Sunday. Is it Footballers we should be sending out or should we find a few tysons and let them out on the playing pitch. If a player has to resort to foul means (physical or verbal) to stop another player he should not be there in the first place and don't give me all this crap that it is part of the game- it is not
