Well Im not the better of the the all ireland articles thread......me nerves are in bits and its only the middle of the week - If I read any more I'll crack long before Sunday. I think the best article to get me in the right frame of mind will be Billy Keane's in Saturdays indo - he will surely put the Final in perspective with the Listowel Races as the backdrop!
No better way to get everyone in the All Ireland mood than to remember the legends of bygone days, as we hopefully will have a new batch of legends to venorate on Sunday evening.
Here's a kind of a best of kingdom audio and video.
Sheehy Supreme - Sheehy chipping Cullen and the Bombers goals. Magee is class in setting the scene.... (6mb).
Maurice Magic - His sideline kick against Dublin and Mayo and the goal against Armagh (8mb)
"Give me ronaldo or zidane - how many of them could have done it"
Paidi's hair-raising speech from '85 - technically the last Gaeltacht man to bring Sam to Kerry. Hopefully Dara O C will be the next!!! I wonder will Dara follow Paidi's lead and mention that one of the O'Se's will have the cup next year and keep it in west kerry
(1.5mb)
The Queen One Vision song for this year. Never thought Id be hearing Sean Walsh and Freddie Mercury in a duet! www.moyvane.com/av/OneVision2004.wma
The Neil Diamond Kerry song from 1997 with snippets from Liam and Weeshie about Fitzy - the Tiger Woods of Gaelic Football!! www.moyvane.com/av/mauricefitz1997.wma
I cant say Id be a man too keen to watch a fillum twice, but jaysus I could watch Maurice kicking points till the cows come home - they mightnt even get milked that night!
Rumbled thru d'vidgeos here and found this one......all his points from the 97 final and 2 against Cavan in the semi (including the one from play in the right corner.....soloing with the right in one direction and kicking with the left while going in the other direction.
(12mbs - 4.5mins)
Make sure to show it to all yere mayo friends and get them right nervous before the match on Sunday. I dont think Pat Holmes will want to be looking at it for a long long time.
Sorry bout the video quality - been copied a few times, and you know how ancient some of the vcr's are in kerry(pre-war Im sure) with the heads never cleaned.
"I think Eamonn Breen shouted at me to kill the ball......so I killed it"
And couldnt resist putting this one up - sensational last 2 kicks of the game in the 2002 South Kerry Final - the Marys against Waterville. Maurice was class that day.
(3mbs - 1 min)
First kick is from nearly midfield - a free, taken from his hands.....incredible - the height and trajectory of the ball. Then when the ball gets kicked out, he fields it and puts the ball over the bar again.
As Jimmy Magee said about DJ as a player.......there MAY have been as good, but there hasnt been any better!
im a firm believer in the idea that you can never get enough stuff to dload from the web.....and especially kerry related. I just happen to have plenty of space on the moyvane site to throw up the dloads.
There seems to be a few songs written for the final. The One Vision had a lot of potential.....especially with all the great commentary material out there. They could have done a 'put em under pressure' sortof thing.....the quick repeat of some of weeshies comments.......daisycutter to the back of the net....a classic!
"so now we battle mayo for the sam maguire we dont need bleach or ponytails to set our team on fire but on september 26th our spirits will be up when dara climbs the hogan to lift on high the cup"
Falvey, those downloads arent live on a webpage on the Moyvane site. I uploaded the clips and just linked to them for ye to dload. In other words, there arent any other ones to see besides the ones I posted on this thread.
But I think I'll have to upload a video clip of some of the better Kerry scores from Sunday, and McDonalds ones. Galvin will have to make the highlight reel as well for his fab and "uncharacteristic" point. The man deserves his all-star.....but in the lead up to that point, moynihan and the others seemed to play the ball around to everyone but galvin who was open all that time.....did they not trust him to take a pop?
Austinstacksabu, when I get the chance I will put up the 2 goals from 86 along with the Gooch's......its about time Gooch and Sheehy were in a video clip together.
Falvey, I dont have the Cavan match from 97 anymore....so the backheel from Fitzy to Mike Frank for a point will have to wait.
After watching the match a few times now, it was a mighty performance by the Kingdom, and it seems to get better with each viewing! Kirby seems to jump higher, more balls are robbed, and the Gooch must have surely scored a lot more than 1-5!!!
I put together a video selection of the best Kerry scores (not forgetting Mayo's 2 goals and Mac's 2 wonder points). Murphy's top notch save is included as well. Once again, clips wont view very well on dialup - best on broadband. To watch offline, right click and "save target as".
Cinneide's Clip
Gooch Glory
Galvin, Russell and Dara hoisting Sam (I dont have Dara's speech - the lad who taped the match for me stopped the tape before it......he obviously wasnt a paddy!)
"We still chalked up the scoreboard and the chalk was green and gold; Said the Tailor white teeth grinning like a shark, 'Sure we only took their measure and we'll cut the cloth the scale When we take the Ghost Train three weeks for Croke Park.'"
Gooch's goal is the great link with the '86 Final - last time the Kingdom rattled the onion bag at the end of September. And the Kerry performance in the second half of 86 in many ways reminds me of this years final - total dominance, clean fielding, stealing balls that werent theirs, kicking gorgeous points.......and......Sheehy's goal being almost a carbon copy of the gooch - Fields well, heads for goal, turns inside and into the same corner of the net.
Here is a 2 minute clip which includes the 2 goals and points by Power, Spillane and the Bomber.
Austinstacksabu, ya should be happy now seeing Spillane's goal......Ive been trying to this day to perfect his punching technique in the air, but it must be a south kerry thing - not something they teach the north kerry garsuns!
Has anybody got tapes or dvds that we could send to murhur so he could put some more stuff up? I'm thinking of the following
-Fitzgerald and Burns scoring those points against Cork in 96 -Pa Laide's goal vs. Clare in 97 -Fitz's point vs. Cavan in New York -Fitz's point vs. Tipp in 98 and his goal against Cork the same year -MacGearailt against Cork and Clare in 99 and 00 -O Keeffe's saves that year -Some clips of Moynihan vs. McConville -Fitz's goal and points vs. Armagh -Russell's goal against Armagh -Kennelly's point vs. Cork in 01 -Moynihan shouldering Vinny over the sideline! -Fitz's point in that replay -Brosnan and Kennelly goaling against Armagh in the league in 02 -Brosnan's and O Se's goals vs. Fermanagh that year -Gooch's lob vs. Fermanagh -Brosnan's goal vs. Kildare -Any of the scores from the Galway and Cork games in 02! -Darragh fielding over the bar against Limerick this year
"From the 50 yard line, Maurice Fitzgerald the immortal has put it over the bar!"....Michael O Muircheartaigh
Figured I should post these clips on this thread as well.....
Thoroughly enjoyed Christy Riordans video of the County Final - I dont know where we would be without him and his crew covering matches. Great buildup with interviews with management, players and legends. He also did a montage of the final with Tina Turner trying to keep up with the pace of the game.
(10mb - 4mins)
And Fitzy's mighty acceptance speech - sincere and well said
(11mb - 5mins)
The lads doing the interviews could fairly talk guff. Here is a short clip of one of them in Killorglin on the morning of the final and asking for the prediction of a lad who already had a few scoops - classic shtuff
(2mbs - 1min)
Lasting impression of the video is Declan O Sullivan's performance......his glorious point at the start of the second half is worth watching over and over. The future is definitely bright for the Kingdom with Declan and Brian Sheehan on the '40. Twas interesting to be watching a match that Liam and Weeshie were commentating on....Liam wasnt too accurate with picking out players on the ball, but great at the guff all the same.
the 62 allireland final against roscommon www.moyvane.com/av/1962_kerry_vs_roscommon.WMV - the fastest goal ever scored in allireland by mcmahon is on......o'connell floats it in. O'connell sure had a sweet way of kicking free kicks.....no real follow thru with his foot? O'Dwyer is in the clip as well launching the ball downfield. And Sean Og Sheehy hoisting Sam.
the 64 final against galway www.moyvane.com/av/1964_galway_vs_kerry.WMV - I counted 10-12 players in a bunch for the throwin at the start. Its like everyone starts in the middle and then makes their way to their position what was with all the punched points?
the 1960 final www.moyvane.com/av/1960_down_vs_kerry.WMV again lots of people in the middle for the throwin - the amount of photographers stranded with the play going on around them. O'connell kicked another great point.....although i was told by someone who was at all those all-irelands that he never played a good final?
exhibition game in wembley against down in 61 www.moyvane.com/av/1961-atwembley_down_vs_kerry.WMV - a massive point scored from a free....had to be o'connell i suppose. The commentator was something else. "all the aggression of rugger, soccer and prize fighting, but what the rules are, you'd have to ask an irishman....the ball can be kicked, punched, carried and thrown - in fact anything goes. you have to understand the game well to understand why they have an umpire at all"
You can order stuff from the following site, not sure if it's only matches featured in GAA Beo series they do, surely there's some archive stuff that can be purchased. Tapes cost €20/€25. E-mail them and they will give you further details. www.videos.ie/

Any links to All Ireland finals (or local championship games) that the late great Liam Higgins commentated on? Also, does anyone know if the commentary from the infamous Gaeltacht Vs Stacks game is available anywhere?? Legendary commentary!
