ack on topic - Rahillys/Newcastle West will face Kilmacud in the AI Semi final. its some journey so far for KOR - technically ranked bottom of all 16 teams in Kerry Senior Championship (please correct me if i have that wrong) to Club Champions and potentially Munster Champions. I think to be fair your prob mixing up 2 competitions there top club in kerry by winning club championship , not sure how you rank them in the county championship , stacks get relegated , and rathmore come up, so must be above them, either way, as you say they have a munster final to play. Are the Narries picking from a full deck at the weekend with the Dubai lads and their Kerry contingent on holidays?

Personally I would have a few Club sides ahead of them, Dingle in my opinion are the best club team in Kerry at the moment, a fully fit Crokes and Stacks would also be ahead of them pound for pound. In saying that, I give the Narries a great chance on Saturday night. Brosnan, Coffey, Moran, Gavin, Walsh, Keane and Savage are serious ballers, they should take Munster and in all honesty that will prob be their lot. But not many senior clubs have won Munster Senior, Desmonds, Stacks, Crokes and Laune Rangers.. am I right in saying that's it? I'm not a Narrie man, but still ill be watching and cheering them Saturday evening.

The club championship is how club sides are ranked but you already knew that as it has decided the relegated club side for x amount of years.

I’d put Crokes, KOR & Stacks all at around the same level. I would also agree on your assessment that Munster is the height of their ambitions, I would see kilmaccud as being 10-15 points better to be honest

I think KOR, be it the club, senior management or players, made a decision over the summer that they would target the club championship and write off the county championship. Rightly or wrongly it has got them into a Munster club final.
I think we can all agree that KOR are not the best club team in Kerry, that honour belongs to Dingle. As one poster said and I have said before the fact they were the worst performing team in the county championship is a serious blot on their book as regard representing Kerry in Munster.
As a side note the KOR players expenses must be heading towards a serious amount. Not sure I agree with a club paying (I'm assuming it's the club paying) for long haul international flights.

Dingle probably should have won the club championship then? I don’t think I’ve seen such analysis of a club previously, did we all question whether stacks were the best club side last year when they beat a KOR team that had lost 2 Kerry seniors within 5 mins of throw in. Dingle on paper look the best but they have won nothing, in order to represent your county you have to win something.

Well you probably won't find any other team that has represented Kerry getting as much scrutiny as other teams that have done so didn't put in such a miserable County Championship performance allowing reason for the scrutiny. As I said, KOR obviously made the decision to target the club championship when other clubs may not have been targeting a peak later in the season. They are where they are, they are club champions and I wish them the best of luck in the Munster final and hopefully AI series.

They were missing several of their best players for the county championship, which you have already referenced yourself when discussing travel expenses. The county championship is also skewed by the existence of divisional sides, which we all know. So the best of way of assessing who the best club side are in a year is the club championship- that’s why we have it and that’s why relegation is decided upon results in said competition.

Just to get things clear, I am a Kerins O’Rahillys supporter. I wasn’t saying we were the best club team in Kerry. HomerJ said that we ranked lowest out of all the teams in the SFC. I was just saying that in the club competition and when he had everyone available we won it.
I’d say a lot of teams are very close and could beat one another on any given day. We were in the division one league final and SFC final last year. Beaten well by Dingle in the county league final and Stacks were comfortable enough in that final also. Both games we had awful luck with injuries.
I think we have as strong of a 15 as anyone but other teams have better panels. Our core of Coffey, Moran, Mush, Savage and Tommy Walsh gets us over the line in most games. Take out more than one of any of these and we are seriously hampered.

Conditions will be cold but dry and more importantly calm on Saturday night. Newcastlewest would have been hoping for a wet, windy night. Rahillys should do it with a bit to spare on Saturday but will be considerably the weakest of the teams remaining after that.

I would say a tight win, maybe 1 to 2 points. A kilmaccud or ulster champions would beat them with relative ease

I’d agree with you on the nucleus of the team being phenomenally important and once you scratch below the surface it’s a prob not as strong as others. The conversation about best and worst club teams is an odd one in the context of the fact that we have a way of solving this- a club championship. As I’ve said earlier in the thread- dingle prob have the best collection of individuals but they haven’t won a championship and that’s what matters. Kerins O Rahillys won the club championship this year so it’s reasonable to say that they were the best club this year. It doesn’t mean that they have the best 15 individual players but they managed to pull it together and win a championship after a number of years of being close. As anyone who has played the game will tell you - winning is hard and some great teams win nothing so it’s a bit odd to see attempts to belittle an achievement.

It will be a close game on Saturday night, NCW are solid without being exceptional. Packed defences this time of year ensure low scoring game, if KOR can dominate the middle of the park, you give them the nod. KOR have 4 or 5 of the starting 15/subs very fresh, missed most of the year thru injury but are now coming into form. Best of luck to all kerry teams the weekend.

Dingle won the County League and were the furthest advanced team in the county senior championship so a fair argument to support they are the best club team in Kerry But in many ways irrelevant , KOR are the county club champions and deserving champions

It was always quite likely that the winners of the club championship would be Kerry’s representative in the Munster club so Rahillys are more than deserving. As others have pointed out, they were missing several key players on the County championship and given their first game was against EK, it was always going to be tough to progress further.

Lads alot of bull being talked in fairness, any given day and depending on players available, any club in the club championship could beat each other, Dingle we’re the form club in the county for sure, but remember o Rahillys beat them last year in the county, again, any given day, that’s why our club championship is one of the best.

I agree with you. All the grades are extremely competitive. Look at Stacks winning the Senior grade three years in a row. Relegated then this year. Kerins O Rahillys could and probably will go down in the next couple of years. Moran and Walsh not getting any younger. Ross O’Callaghan, Con Barrett and Barry John Keane all well into their 30s. Cormac Coffey and Mush emigrated. Very little coming through. Doesn’t bode well, I think that’s why there is a such a big push this year with bringing the three lads back from Dubai and New York. It’s now or never.

Good luck to KoR on Saturday. I understand Clonmel were missing a few big guns in their semi and it was a big shock to see the Limerick lads win - they were pitiful against Stacks last year. KoR to win pulling up.
Of course in another anomaly that only Kerry GAA can serve up, KoR were beaten by Stacks in an earlier round of the Kerry club championship this year - the same stacks who were subsequently relegated. Them's the rules as they say.....

Any team with Moran, Walsh, BJ Keane, Jack Savage, Mush in the top half of the field is a serious outfit. but you would worry about them in the long run , age profile not young and production line coming through not great

Hearing the Rahilly's V NCW game is being moved from 7.30 in Pairc UI Rinn to 3pm in Mallow - still on Saturday but concern over a possible frozen pitch are behind change. change is listed on Munster GAA website.

From Kerryman
Munster GAA announced on Friday morning that Kerins O’Rahillys’ Munster Senior Club Final with Limerick’s Newcastlewest, will now be played at 3pm in Mallow tomorrow (Saturday, December 10).
The game had originally been fixed for Páirc Uí Rinn at 7pm, but the Munster Council opted to switch the game owing to the cold weather conditions prevailing, and which are expected to continue over the weekend. Tickets purchased for the Páirc Uí Rinn fixture will be valid in Mallow.
The game was due to be broadcast on TG4, but the Irish language broadcaster is already committed to showing the All Ireland intermediate ladies club final at the same time. Details on the broadcast arrangements are expected later today.
The Munster Council also confirmed that the Munster club intermediate and junior finals – involving Rathmore and Fossa respectively – will go ahead as scheduled on Sunday in Mallow at 1pm and 3.30pm.
