It would have been equally difficult to ask Ballyduff to play Brosna last Saturday, 30 July, just 8 days before the County Hurling Final.
The hurlers gained by having a week without a game, but I'm sure the footballers will pay the price over the following week...especially if the hurlers win.
What's expected of a dual player is almost impossible.
Hopefully there are no walk-overs, although there was one last week when Asdee failed to field a team at home in the junior competition.

Dual not an issue for Asdee! They have a very small panel though, a few injuries and a few on holidays would leave them in a situ where they would have to concede

Kerry GAA put out a tweet saying all of the programmes were available online but the site appears to be down now. Might be due to traffic

2 shocks in the Senior Championship tonight.
Na Gaeil beat Kenmare in Lewis Road 2-12 to 1-14.
Spa beat Dingle in Strand Road 3-9 to 0-13.
Massive result for Na Gaeil in their first Senior Championship game. Diarmuid O'Connor kicked 1-7 while Seanie O'Shea kicked 0-8 for Kenmare.

Well done to Na Gaeil, to be honest I thought Kenmare would have a good bit too much for them. One more point and they should stay senior for another year.

The new kerry website is a shambles. Painful to get club results. I hope it was a freebie whoever they got to do it for them.

Big win for Spa in Strand road last night. Liam Kearney had a massive game for Spa winning a number of frees and a penalty also with driving runs that Dingle were unable to stop. Tom O Sullivan got on a lot of ball but it was often too deep to really have a big effect. Paul and Dylan Geaney kicked some nice scores in the 2nd half after both being quite In the first half. Overall though Dingle were pretty disjointed and actually looked to be lacking in fitness. Finally the pitch could have been cut on the day was definitely too high for a Senior club game.

All the favourites in each game lost (bar arguably Rahillys) in the Senior club championship. Very interesting. Teams must be going all out too since there’s a high chance East Kerry will win the county championship so whover wins the club championship could well end up representing Kerry in Munster.

Senior club has semi finals this year so 1 loss is not as fatal as in previous years. Second round of fixtures will tell a lot. Teams will be out on consecutive weekends so injuries and squad strength could be crucial.

Kerins O'Rahillys 0-23 Dr. Crokes 1-16 HT 0-12 1-6
My original plan was to go to the hurling final but when I saw that it was being televised I decided to go to Castleisland and then get home in time to watch the TV. That is the way my day panned out.
It was scorching in Castleisland and I can assure you it was fairly hot on the pitch as well. There was a serious edge to the game with a little bit of nastiness thrown in. I felt the referee could have kept a tighter rein on matters. It must be said it was a fine game as well with a plethora of scores , some of them of the first rank.
Dr. Crokes had two very distinguished Maor Uisce in Shane Murphy and Gavin White. Apparently, Shane was an absentee due to a carry over suspension from last year. In the circumstances, Dr. Crokes sorely missed his kicks out.
Strand Road started like a whirlwind, playing with the wind, and had the first four scores on the board. courtesy of three frees and a massive point from play, all from Jack Savage. Brian looney then sent one over from play before Tony Brosnan stepped forward, very prominent in the first half , less so in the second half. He came out to gather a ball, slalomed his way towards goal, seemed to be fouled in the process, but undeterred he cracked it home. Shortly afterwards he swung one over without appearing to look at the goals. He scored a further one from a mark after Gavin O' Brien registered a mighty point for Strand Road. Liam Randles scored one from play , made by Tony. Tony himself got another from play. Late in that half, Tommy Walsh got one and Gavin O'Brien got another.
A problem for Crokes in that half was the concession of silly frees, exacerbated by giving lip to the referee, and some poor kicks out.
Michael Burns opened the scoring in the second half with a fine point and he got another great one later in the game but Crokes would have been expecting more from him on the forty. Tommy Walsh got a great point in this half and played a very prominent role as he wandered out to midfield. Young Cian McMahon came on for Crokes and looked very skillful and kicked a couple of points . He is a prospect.
A noteworthy feature of the second half was the lightning incursions up field by Cormac Coffey resulting in three fine points. Another menace for Crokes all through was the strength, powerful running and fielding of Gavin O'Brien at wing forward. He scored three points as far as I can recall. I wonder will Jack give him e run?
David Shaw was the most prominent of the midfielders with David Moran occasionally exerting an influence.
BJK made little impact.
My scoring records may not be entirely accurate but I suspect they are not too far out. Jack Savage got two from play and ten from frees. Brother Gearoid got two from play and two from frees.
Tony Brosnan got 1-3 from play, one from a mark and four from frees.
Was Cormac Coffey marking Tony Brosnan? I think he was in the first half , not sure about the second half. I find it every difficult nowadays to make out who is marking who.
A lot of Crokes supporters seemed to be disgruntled with referee , Padraig O'Sullivan. My gripe with him was that he needed to be more authoritative and decisive because it threatened to boil over on a couple of occasions.
In the heel of the hunt, it was well worth the trip to Castleisland.

Good win for Na Gael - no sign of Stefan and Andrew Barry also not playing - presume both are injured? If they make it back it will make Na Gale serious contenders one would think.

Great win in glorious castleisland for kor, well worth the 4 point victory,be it Crokes missing GW and SM, I think a goal from nothing by TB kept them in touch all way thru till the last ten, some magnificent kicking by JS, some of the kicks in the second half were top drawer, big TW came out in the last 10 to pluck some massive balls out of the sky to steady the ship for Kor, entertaining game by both teams.

Spa looked strong in the game against Dingle - with two qualifying for SF spots this year anything can happen.

Yeah, being completely honest I would have backed all 4 of the losing teams to win if I was asked in advance of the weekend

I've opened another thread that has all the Club Championship match results and upcoming fixtures for ease of reference. That thread will remain locked and I hope to update it every weekend.
This thread will serve for discussion and match reports from posters or links to such reports.
A similar pair of threads for the County Championship details, when published by the County Board, will follow later this week.

Like others, I was surprised by a lot of the results. Maybe it is a consequence of the new split season structure that teams are at different stages of fitness and sharpness. I was at the Dingle Spa game and Dingle were off the pace, not helped by a pitch not in great condition .

Dingle were poor on the night, pitch had nothing to do with it, it did not bother Spa, who kicked some tremendous scores, I think Conor geaney loss was huge for dingle, Spa well worth there victory, disingenuous to suggest the field cost dingle.
