For sure the ref ain't doing Stacks any favours but Finbarrs far better so far. Joe Ó Connor very quiet. Donaghy out of it and some silly mistakes by Stacks. Quilter called a mark when there was no one near him and he had a free run at goals. Like in the past Cork clubs have a habit of pulling the wool over Kerry clubs. First ko to the bars was refusing the toss. Stacks look to be in big trouble cos I can't see where the scores will come from and if Guthrie is nt careful another goal might be conceded. Hopefully Stacks improve big time 2nd half. Leave Donaghy FF and stop his rambling. Joseph seems to be using the tactics of trying to run head first through them and if that doesn’t work then trying to run head first through them

Hard luck on the Rockies. To their credit they fought back well in 2nd half but just could nt get level. Unlucky with injuries etc but in reality they lack forward power. Lack of a decent scoring forward cost them

That last free in was very harsh especially as the ref left similar go earlier.
Barrs deserved it.
Quilter has lots of potential. He didnt get the space he is probably used to getting as a few kicks were blocked etc but he never hid.
Has the keeper not made that save from him the result might be different.
Donaghy made no impact today. Was it Sam Ryan that was on him.
Dylan Casey looks like his has a forwards instinct too. Clearly a very good prospect.
Pity Joe oConnor got that injury.
Barrs are a great club with a long tradition. Stacks v Barrs were at each throat in the 70s in a few great games.

Ya, hard luck on the Rockies, I though they had no luck today, I also thought the ref game them nothing and left a lot go, in saying that can’t take it from the Barr’s, they deserved it.
The game was lost in the first half in my opinion, The Rockies main players never really got into it. Losing two players of the quality of Brendan and Joe, two players that pull the strings around the middle killed them - not many clubs could withstand such losses.

Hard luck Stacks,
They lost it in the first 20 seconds really and followed up with a poor first half.
They don't look set up to chase a game.
I don't think either would have won the all ireland being honest.

I thoughts Stacks looked very poor to be honest. The wide pitch didn’t suit them at all. Barrs were able to deal with their defence. Stacks were kicking the ball a lot more than they ever did and they don’t have the forwards for that. They were completely reliant on Quilter. A lot of times things just didn’t come off for him, and it was very hard for him as Barrs could focus on stopping him, with Stacks having no other threat. To be fair to him though he never hid and kept showing until the end. Barrs are the poorest provincial winners it seems to me. Stacks will no doubt be back with all the underage talent they have coming through. Likely they’ll have a very different team next time they reach this stage.

Credit to the Rockies for an honourable fight back. They came back because they upped the intensity and physicality in the second half. They were much too timid in the first half with their forwards being gobbled up by an aggressive defence.
There was a vast improvement in the second half but, as has been demonstrated before , they do not have sufficient firepower up front. For probably the first time , the incomparable KD was unable the rescue matters.
Joseph O’Connor and Brendan O’Sulllivan going off hurt Stacks of course but it must be said Joseph had made little contribution prior to his departure . That injury looks serious. He was scarcely able to walk and should have been replaced earlier. Another example of short term expediency trumping player welfare.
Sean Quilter looked very green at times but was the only threat up front. He deserved that goal and will be a smart player yet.
Dylan Casey is a genuine defender.
The last free looked harsh but , overall, the better team won.

Lads on Quilter, some of you are watching a different sport to me No I'd agree he should have really scored the first goal and some of his shot selection was poor all be it he finished with 1.4 but he's really on his own up there. Happy with Casey he can do job for Kerry.

He reminds me of Declan quill in that if he doesn’t have the option of kicking it with his left then for the love of god he’ll have a go with the left anyways. Should have scored that goal 100%

Stacks scoring rate has been poor all year - the injuries suffered no different than those suffered by St Brendans & Strand Rd in semi final & final respectively.

On Quilter I'm afraid a big NO for me Very talented nó doubt but is lacking for top class inter County football. Poor decision making at times and I think aittle shy when it comes to physicality. Maybe I'm being harsh but that's how I see it. Casey def has something to offer at county level and I would nt rule out Joe Ó Connor yet either. Mick I agree was very happy with Casey and God knows we need extra options at the back.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting him for intercounty Most Stacks supporters would see Casey being on the kerry first 15 and Joe on the bench. Thats about it. Think Joe has miles more scope than AdrianS and JackB as he has a better engine than both and offers a far bigger scoring threat and free-winning threat in the danger zone as he is impossible to dispossess by fair means.

I think there is the raw material in Sean Quilter to see him play inter county football in time. Donaghy was 23 when he made his big impression in 2006, so there is plenty of time to develop this young man.

Stacks luck finally ran out today - they conceded the opening goal with a high ball into their full back line and followed this with a weak performance in the first half. Great to see some fight back from them in the second half but a six point HT deficit meant they could not afford any slip ups in the second half and ultimately the second goal killed them. Injuries which they have avoided thus far also became a possible factor but they do have a decent panel to mitigate injuries somewhat.
With regard to lads being an asset to Kerry in 2022 I think it is extremely unlikely to see Dylan Casey make the breakthrough this year - its rare for a player to make the team in his first year with the panel and he will do very well if he makes match day panels come championship. Joe O Connor has the benefit of 2021 on the panel and I think he is the most likely to make a contribution in 2022 but he is well down the rankings for a starting berth if all ahead of him are available. Beyond this pair there are not too many other obvious candidates.
Going forward for Stacks - they have had some great underage teams with strong representation at Kerry underage level. The future should be bright even if they lose Star - are there any other likely departures? What ages are the likes of the Shanahan brothers and Brendan O Sullivan?

Dylan Casey has the potential but he needs to be tested at that level and to see how he holds up. We were robbed of the chance to see Joe o Connor up against a good intercounty midfielder today and it’s hard to judge whether he is good enough. He has the attributes but prior to today he’s lived a bit of a charmed life in terms of opponents losing intercounty midfielders when playing against him. I still think Greg Horan has the ability, he may lack a bit of pace but I would like to see him get a go in a league game. That’s it in terms of lads having the ability to play intercounty from stacks

You’d imagine with all the county minors Stacks have had in the last few years, that a few of them will push some of those who started today out of the starting team. If they’ve ambitions of having another crack at Munster and if successful the All Ireland then they’ll need some personnel changes, 4 or 5 at least by my reckoning.

I was surprised that the stacks defence were vulnerable under the high ball today, I would have thought the high ball being their preferred option to Star and Quilter that the backs would have been used to the ploy in Training,
For what it’s worth, what I have seen of Casey, I think he is the exception to the rule and could possible make a corner berth with the county, it may mean he being thrown in next weekend or in the odd league game… only one way of finding out

How often do you see a member of a full back line catching a ball cleanly over their heads .The ball usually breaks and then it is a case of who is alert for the break succeeds. In that respect it was hugely disappointing to see so many balls that were broken away from KD being snapped up a defender. Surely when a Stacks player directs a high one towards Kieran a colleague should be racing in bald headed for the crumbs . Of course we often saw that lack of willingness to pounce for crumbs in a Kerry situation as well.

Negatives: Stacks decision making at times in the 2nd half really cost them. Star was being dominated but they kept trying the long ball, those block downs from the Barrs defenders were shots that should have never been taken on, ball should have been recycled as there were 2/3 defenders around for all of them. Shane Callaghan didn't offer much when introduced either. Wayne Guthrie's kickouts also coughed up a lot of needless ball, Stacks looked more likely to win opposition kickouts than their own before they decided to stick with short kickouts.
Positives: Greg Horan had a good 2nd half and scored 2 brilliant points and was a big reason why Stacks carried the fight in the 2nd half. Dylan Casey kept the marquee forward Stephen Sherlock very quiet throughout, keeping him to 1 point from play and was never too far away from him.
Stacks will learn from this defeat, they will freshen up for the coming season and like Donegal of 2011 will hopefully try to add a few more attacking plans to their playbook to really bring them on as a team. Crokes threw away many a winnable game after winning County titles in Munster/AI semi's but it only brought them on as a team and they eventually got the title they craved. With the age profile of Stacks players and with thats to come from underage I can see Stacks being something similar to the Crokes of 2010-2019
Hopefully they'll have a few fellas have a good year for Kerry, the likes of Joe O'Connor, Dylan Casey & Greg Horan and they'll be there or thereabouts in Kerry come next winter for sure.
